Location: Casa Luna is a bit out of the way, about a 5 min drive from the main part of La Fortuna town. The good thing is that it is within walking distance of the La Fortuna Falls and has beautiful balconey views of Arenal and surrounding mountains. Casa Luna is beautifully landscaped so it just feels like an extension of the surrounding scenery (see photo).
Rooms: Really charming 4-plex buildings (2 stacked on 2) (see photo). The rooms have rustic decorations and are reasonable in size, though I would not consider it spacious. We stayed in a room with 2 queen beds (3 people) and were comfortable. Despite the cleanliness, there is no avoiding a couple bugs sneaking into the rooms. Amenities include airconditioning, a small fridge, soaps and shampoos. If you are doing a lot of activities, the large shower is good for getting everything washed! Best feature is that each suite has a balcony facing Arenal volcano. Great place to sit, relax and do some bird watching.
Service: Warm and welcoming staff that are helpful but unintrusive. Willing to help organize tours of the area if need be. There is a moderate sized pool on the property that was clean and inviting, with what looks to be a swim up bar in the making. Best of all, Casa Luna featured an open-air restaurant (see photo) where the abundance (hot and cold) buffet breakfast was served each morning. If you have a large group, it is a great place to hang out. We enjoyed a couple dinners and lunches there as well. Because of their distance from the main town, I would suggest they broaden their menu a little more for different palates. Right now there is a heavy slant towards Italian inspired food. Their pastas are not the best, but certainly the fried fresh fish was delicious, as is the brownie dessert.
All in all, a really happy and rustic stay. We really enjoyed the peace and sense of being out in nature. Would recommend anyone who doesn't mind being in a quieter location with a few inconveniences.
