“Casa Luna Stay via Groupon Special”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2012

I was very pleasantly surprised with Casa Luna Resort. It is truly a jungle/tropical paradise that is located just outside of downtown La Fortuna --- but feels like a thousand miles away! It is quiet, tranquil, and quite beautiful overall. The rooms are clean and spacious - all with front patios and chairs to sit and watch the nature all around you including views of the Arenal Volcano from every room. The pool was fantastic to cool off in after a long day in the rainforest. We also took advantage of the spa onsite which was a very unique and relaxing experience (and GOOD!). They offer a variety of services - all with a local flare! The food and drinks in the restaurant and bar were very good as well. And what can I say about the staff? All were VERY pleasant and happy to help in any way that they could do for us. It was a wonderful experience to stay at Casa Luna - and I hear even more new "upgrades" are coming to the resort in the future. I look forward to returning again sometime knowing fully well that I will be in good hands!

The grounds of Casa Luna are beaufitul. The Arenal Volcano is within view from your room, espcially in balconies (G and H). The pool is excellent for spending sometime relaxing and getting wet. We weren't expecting to eat dinner at the restaurant, but did one night and am glad we did. The presentation and quality of the food was outstanding. We are both finicky eaters, but loved our meals. We liked being near La Fortuna - it cost $5 (250 colones) to take a taxi to town. The hotel is also near the La Fortuna Waterfall which is a must-see attraction. The bathroom has a nice space and the shower is made for tall people! The spa at Casa Luna is professional and top notch.

There are a couple of things that concerned me about this place. First of all, the rooms still don't have safes in them. You need to check your valuables in at the front desk. Secondly, the hotel is supposed to be an eco-friendly resort. In fact, they take your air conditioning card out of the slot if you leave it in and have the maid clean your room. I couldn't understand why our balcony door had at least a 3/4-inch gap between it and the floor. There was also a small gap in the windows. This caused air to leave the room. This is not environmentally friendly in my mind. Next, we had large ants in our bathroom toilet only at night. I don't know how they got into the room. The last issue is their smoking policy. We never smoke in our room or around people as we don't want to offend others. You are required to leave the premises at Casa Luna to have a cigarette. The walk is close and not really an issue; however, this should be posted on their web site.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a balcony room. This is a smoke-free establishment. Those wishing to have a c...

My husband and I recently stayed 4 nights in the Casa Luna Hotel and Spa and we're pleasantly suprised by what we found. The photos don't do Casa Luna's grounds justice - the pool is lovely with a waterfool next to a swim up bar (although the bar wasn't staffed while we were there) and gorgeous foliage surrounding it. The views are straight to the volanco, but with the hummingbirds, iguanas and butterflys that are on the grounds you don't know where to look - everything is beautiful! The rooms were perfect - very nice and clean with a balcony and AC unit that was very efficient. The service/staff was friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was included in our deal and was absolutely delicious. The only shortcoming that we found was that the lunch/dinner menu was more expensive that what you could find in town and featured more americanized food than what we were looking for. The staff was willing to recommend great places in town though, which was a big help! We would highly recommend Casa Luna though and will hopefully be returning again soon!

We loved staying there. The rooms were clean and nice. We had a great view of the volcano from our room. The grounds were beautiful. It was great having a restaurant within the hotel area. The prices were good and the food was great. The wait staff was very nice and spoke English very well. I had a massage the last day. It was wonderfull.
I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the volcano on the 2nd floor.

We booked this trip via Groupon enticed by all the activities offerred through Costa Rica Descents and were pleasantly surprised how wonderful Casa Luna Hotel was! We could walk into La Fortuna from the hotel but then a cab ride was only $4. The grounds at the hotel were like Paradise - so many flowers, butterflies, hummingbirds, and as an added bonus there was a bird's nest in the palm right next to our balcony. We were so fortunate to see the babies fly for the first time on our last day! They landed right on our balcony! So many activities are available: white water rafting, hiking, horseback riding, ATV rides, zip line, hikes to beautiful waterfalls, views of the volcano (which now only steams - no lava flow for a year now), and so much more! The staff was friendly, bilingual, and the place was spotless. The restaurant was excellent. Advice for girls like me who never know what to pack: no jewelry, nothing fancy - casual clothing that dries quickly. Comfortable shoes that dry quickly (I was so glad I bought water shoes). Loved it. I will be back!

Room Tip: Ask for the 2nd floor for a better view of the volcano and farther away from dining room as I though...

Location: This hotel is convienently located within a mile of La Fortuna where there is an abundance of local shopping and delicous eateries!! and the cities hottest nightclub El Establo!!

Hotel Staff: The hotel staff was really friendly and very helpful to people who don't know very much spanish. They kept all the areas impressively clean and made the effort of pleasing guests from all different parts of the world appear effortless.

Food: The dinners were very good, full of flavor, don't even have any other way of describing it really, cant really pin point any exact spices or herbs, just that the dishes had delectible flavors to them. The only thing I was disapponted about in the food was the breakfast, it is buffet style and there isnt much variety. (toast, bran cereal, fruit, eggs, and rice and beans) However, their pineapple is UNBELIEVABLE!!!! The best pineapple in the world! lol

Room Tip: Try and get a room right next to the only dinner hall...that way you can access free WIFI while you...

I was overwhelmed by the number of hotels near Arenal National Park and was not sure where to stay. But I was VERY pleased with my choice to stay at Casa Luna.

The grounds were beautiful, with all the lush foilage on the property. Each room felt very secluded in the way they situated buildings on the property. The buildings consist of 4 separate rooms (but the rooms do not share walls, just floor/ceiling). We didn't notice much noise at all during our 2 nights there (and I am a light sleeper). Since the hotel is outside of downtown La Fortuna (a couple km south), there was not a lot of noise on the property from trucks or roads. This also allowed the birds to be more comfortable visiting the property, allowing it to be a very relaxing experience.

The rooms were very nicely decorated and very clean. The beds were extremely comfortable. I especially enjoyed the view of Arenal volcano when we woke up and the sounds of all the birds visiting the flowers. We were in building D and had an upper room, which provided better views than lower rooms.

The restaurant food was excellent, and priced very reasonably (for lunch and dinner). Breakfast selection was huge as well (multiple types of fruit, scrambled eggs, sliced meats and cheeses, bread, butter and jellies, cereal, juices, coffee, rice, and black beans). The wait staff were friendly and spoke some English, which helped when we had questions and didn't know the appropriate Spanish.

Reception staff were also very helpful, always friendly, and gave good recommendations for nearby activities and restaurants in town.

Although there was supposed to be Wifi in the rooms, the signal was not strong enough to use in the room. Sometimes it was strong enough on the balcony, but it was best in reception or the restaurant.

**And just an example of how they think about their guests...they provide a complimentary umbrella to use...just in case! We didn't need it, but it was nice to know there was one available to use.
