“Our Own Paradise”
Reviewed July 19, 2014

The rooms are more like bungalows. We had our own private pool and yard area. The bathrooms are huge. The waterfall shower was a waste of time. Personally I would have reduced the bathroom size and created a common area. Ours had only the two rooms, bathrooms, and a kitchenette. For some reason they had not installed the sink in the kitchen. We ended up sitting on the patio a lot. The free breakfast was AWESOME. It has made to order omelets or scrambled eggs, fruit, meats, pancakes, ... All of it was very good.

We had a minor issue with a double billing, but management worked hard to rectify the issue to my complete satisfaction. I would not hesitate to stay here again. Hopefully next time it won't rain quite so much.

Our family stayed at the resort in July 2014. The view of the Arenal Volcano was spectacular, the service quite good, the food excellent, and the pool inviting. Our room (actually our own private villa/casita) was centrally located and spacious. The private hot tub outside the door of the master bedroom was beautiful, although the water never got warm in it. We particularly enjoyed the service we received from Elver in the dining room, and the transportation provided by Maritza to/from the town of La Fortuna was comfortable and right on schedule. Thanks to everyone at Mountain Paradise in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. Pura Vida!

Room Tip: Rooms that have a view of the volcano are obviously key. We stayed in room 203 and it provided a fa...

The staff at this hotel was so incredibly friendly, helpful, and fun that it really helped an otherwise average hotel some great! We were welcomed with a fruit drink and after tellign them we were on our honeymoon, they quickly rushed to the room before we got there to decorate the bed and floor with flower petals. The location was not too bad, the hotel offered a free shuttle (though we didn't have time to use), they were SO helpful with setting up tours (even tours that we did not want to schedule through the tour groups they tended use, but an outside one), and the pool area was nice. The food was only okay after comparing to other areas we went to, it was a little pricey for what you got, but the convenience of having 2 restaurants within walking distance was nice. The room itself was a bit older, the shower was neat because it was a waterfall, but it definitely felt kind of damp most of our stay. Also, room was VERY dark - we had room 1, which was nice because it was closest to the restaurants, pool, and front desk. It was a good stop and not a bad price for what you get (most of the hotels in the area were pretty expensive compared to other areas, but I think that's the nature of Arenal). Wifi was spotty in room, but great in front desk area, and it was nice that they offered unlimited international phone calls for $5 daily. Overall, would recommend if you are on a budget and looking for great service.

We booked this hotel last minute for a weekend getaway to Arenal. We didn't read enough reviews beforehand as we found this place too resort-like and touristy for our taste. Our fault, not theirs.

We reserved a premium suite, which is one up from the regular. The draw here is a jacuzzi tub on the patio, which was what sold us. Hot tub + volcano = perfect romantic vacation? Our first room didn't have enough privacy for our liking (patio faced a busy walkway), and we asked to switch to another. They accommodated our request quickly and easily. Our new room was great. Spacious, clean and private. Loved the waterfall shower in the bathroom.

The property is lovely and peaceful, with great views of the volcano. The heated pool is nice, with a swim-up bar and 24hr access. The bartender was less than friendly, which was a bit of a turn-off.

The major issue for us was the food. Borderline inedible and pricey. The hotel is far from other restaurants so a car is a MUST here or you will starve.

PROS
Beautiful property, 24-hr heated pool, jacuzzi on the patio, friendly front desk staff

CONS
Food is borderline inedible, touristy, far from everything, no fridge/ice bucket in room

Room Tip: Premium suites have jacuzzi tubs on the patio.

Stayed here for the first three days of our honeymoon. Great room - we had the junior suite, which is the most economical. It was huge, tidy, and included an amazing bathroom (replete with two showers, one modeled after a waterfall). We also had a little patio with our own private hot tub. Breakfast was included with our stay, and options were always good. We also had a typical lunch at the hotel restaurant that was tasty.

Because we were not totally familiar with how tourism worked in the area, we wound up booking most of our activities (zip line, waterfall hike, volcano hike, etc.) through the hotel. This option is great, especially if you don't have a rental or have a large group and require use of the hotel's shuttle service. However, if you are traveling as a couple, you can just as easily access the tour companies by driving around La Fortunate on your own - this might save you a little money, in the end.

Great view of the volcano, lovely staff who made us feel very welcome and comfortable, and pretty affordable. We would definitely return.

Nice hotel - the pool is great, rooms are nice and the bathroom even better. Buffet breakfast is good, dinner so so. The staff were great, especially the drivers. When (if) the day is clear, the volcano views are amazing

My cousin and I just returned home after vacationing in Costa Rica. We spent six days at Mountain Hotel. We couldn't have been happier with our stay. Our Casita, the grounds, and the staff absolutely lived up to their consistently high ratings. As others have said, Esteban was very helpful in recommending tours and activities. Bryant at the restaurant, was the happier and most attentive waiter I have ever had. And Carlos, the tour guide, was very knowledge, intelligent and professional. The entire staff at the hotel spoiled us with fantastic food and truly 5 star service. Thank you to all the Mountain Paradise Hotel staff for making our vacation so great and wonderful!!!
