Edison deserves all of the credit for our stay at Hotel Magic Mountain. We thought the jr suite was elegant and the views were spectacular. We plan to return to enjoy Fortuna in the future. Many thanks for having excellent employees and a beautiful facility. Muchas Gracias.

Room Tip: we did not take advantage of fitness center and spa, but are sure they are very bit as lovely as the...

We were on our delayed honeymoon and spent the active portion of our trip to Costa Rica in La Fortuna and Magic Mountain Hotel. From here we did all sorts of things around the volcano and in the area from zip lining and rappelling to horseback riding and soaking in the natural hot springs. We loved the hotel and its staff…super friendly and willing to practice their English with us as we practiced our Spanish (or in my case, my Spanglish). The room was great up on the 3rd floor with a view of the pool, beautiful landscaping, and of course Arenal Volcano. We woke up to birds singing every morning followed by a great breakfast of local food. We already miss the Gallo Pinto and sweet plantains. The wet bar had good food as well and a friendly bartender. Unfortunately the jacuzzi tubs weren't hotter than lukewarm and we had issues with our room key not working several times. But those are the only reasons we didn't rate it a 5 star stay. It was a simple hotel…not too packed…great amenities…great staff and would definitely stay there again. Thanks for an amazing stay in Arenal!!!

Room Tip: 3rd floor has the best view

Hotel Magic Mountain was just okay - there was nothing special and nothing horrible. From our balcony we had Arenal Volcano, but a spindly tree was directly in our view. If it wouldn't have grown there or had been cut down we would have had an unobstructed view of the volcano and that would have been much better. The bed (2 double, or really small queen, beds in the room) was very comfortable. Having become accustomed to having a coffee maker WITH coffee in the room, it was a surprise that it was $1.00 in order to buy coffee. The breakfast buffet had fresh fruit, fried plantain and the ubiquitous rice and beans, but my husband was disappointed that on the days omelets were available, there was no ham to put in the omelet. The pancakes were okay. Enjoyed the sports bar and the $2.50 Imperial beer. Bottled water was not provided in the room and wasn't sure about being able to drink the water, but we were able to buy a 2 liter bottle at the restaurant for $3.00. Had read on one of the US government websites that we should not drink the tap water. For the amount of time spent there, it was an average place to stay. Happy hour drink prices were good.

Room Tip: All rooms faced the volcano. First floor may have had some obstructions, but not sure about that...

We started our trip at Hotel Magic Mountain, and we kept saying we wished we had stayed another day. The views are amazing and the landscaping perfect. The employees were very friendly, helpful and provided several great recommendations for excursions and restaurants.

We had breakfast included in our package, and it was wonderful. Complete with an omelet bar, warm food, coffee, juices, etc.

The only downside was the room itself -- which wasn't terrible, but there is room for improvement. You have to have your room key (you only get one) inserted into the wall for the A/C to run, which meant every time you returned after a hot excursion, the room was hot and had to cool down again. I understand that they do it to save $ and reduce electricity use, but it was annoying. Our friends had another room and had ants in their rooms constantly (we didn't). They also had a small fridge and even though our rooms were the same, ours didn't have one. The bathtubs didn't drain properly, so after a few minutes I was standing in my shower water.

But overall, the grounds, view, breakfast and staff made this a fantastic stay. I would return in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Every room has a view, but I think the higher floors probably see more.

We stayed here for three nights after a camping trip in the rain forest. OK, the sight of a dry room with a big, comfortable bed and a bathroom with a shower where you didn't have to check for any number of creepy crawlies may have helped with a rose-tinted view of this hotel, but hey. It worked for us.

Rooms are simple but spacious with great views of the volcano, if it's clear. The whole site is compact but the grounds are beautifully kept and the pool is fabulous.

The restaurant is relatively pricey but there are alternatives in town, which isn't far by taxi or on foot. The other option is to join in one of the themed nights in the restaurant that are well executed by the staff.

The hotel is popular with tour groups coming up from the Pacific coast resorts. This means the bars, restaurants and pool area can be busy at certain times. But wait a while, kick back, enjoy your drink and the groups invariably move off to dinner/ bar/ coach for onward departure, leaving you to savour the surroundings.

Room Tip: Pick your mealtimes with an eye on when the tour groups go in, unless you like queuing. And don'...

This hotel was fabulous. The room was simple, but clean and well-appointed. Fabulous view of Arenal and the pool from our balcony. Breakfast was delicious with a great variety of Costa Rican food. Most importantly, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. They were quick to provide restaurant recommendations or call a cab when we needed it and they were genuinely concerned with our experience. The pool bartender was also very friendly and easy to chat with.

Room Tip: rooms on the upper floors have better volcano views

We spend two nights at Magic Mountain and really enjoyed it. We arrive at about midnight and the office was closed but there was someone waiting for us outside with our key and helped us get luggage to the room. We woke to a beautiful view of the volcano. The free brunch was very good with a nice variety. The grounds and pool area, with swim-up bar, were very nice and all the staff were very nice and helpful.
