The grounds and view of the volcano are stunning. The pool and hot spring were a delight. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was adequate, it would have been nice to have had the option of an evening meal, as the town is at least a 10 minute drive away, but as this option was not available we ordered take out meals that were delivered to us, a cheaper option than paying for taxi's into the local town. There was a night security guard who patrolled the grounds which was very reassuring.

We spent only two wonderful nights at Kokoro. I wish we could have stayed longer. What a fantastic, quiet and peaceful place. The grounds were incredible with some many tucked away outdoor spaces to relax and enjoy the beautiful grounds. Everything was immaculate, the rooms, the pool area and the grounds and gardens. We had a great night alone in the hot springs that I will alway remember. The staff was excellent. So helpful and personable. It was a joy to talk with them. I would highly recommend this hotel and hope I will be able to return there and stay longer. It was the beginning of our first trip to Costa Rica and was my favorite part.

This hotel has a great location - a short drive from town, so it's quiet and slightly removed from the hustle and bustle. The rooms, while spartan, are large and clean. The bed was not the most comfortable (slightly stiff), but the a/c worked well. The grounds of the hotel were beautiful, with lots of flora and fauna, especially birds. The pool area was also nice, and the views of Arenal were pretty spectacular when it was clear. The free breakfast was very good - try the beans and rice!

If you're looking for something luxurious, this might not be the place for you, but if you're looking for a reasonably priced option near Arenal, it's hard to go wrong with Kokoro.

Everyone on staff was very friendly, and all attempted to be helpful to travelers, but too often we heard the off-season excuse for limited offerings that are not described on the website. These ranged from irregular internet service to only one small tub/hot spring to limited alcoholic beverages to the closed restaurant in the evening . While our room was fine and the swimming pool refreshing, it just wasn't what we expected based on the website. This was our fourth visit to Arenal during off season and the only time we were given this excuse. Other hotels had hot springs fully operational but this place filled only one "Spring" and only between hours of 4-10 pm. Hot springs are presumed to be natural so while emptying and refilling may mean the water is clean, it is not natural. On the first day the water was only tepid. On the second day other guests complained and the temperature at 4:00 was scalding, much too hot to enter. Hours later at 9 pm it was finally okay, but the single spring was disappointing. Guests should be notified in advance of facilities that will not be open and the price should be reduced accordingly. Similarly the restaurant offered only breakfast. It was delicious but we were looking forward to having dinner one evening as well. Again the excuse was "off-season."

Dear EKCovan

On behalf of Hotel Kokoro, The Kokoro Team would like to thank you for the moment you took to share your experiences with us.
Our commitment is to our guests and we aim to excel in our services, we have listened and understood your reviews carefully.

We would like to explain to you the circumstances of touristic destinations. In la Fortuna the low season usually is from September – October, but this year we have noticed a much slower period. Our business in La Fortuna is related to our tourism season, you are right that this was not the same in the past years, still this year la Fortuna is affected by a Low Season very early. This means that also other Hotels, Restaurants and Activity provider do not open late and service are not operating at 100%. That’s why also some of Restaurants do close earlier in Low Season. And this is not only in La Fortuna.

We regret that you were not able to fully enjoy our hotel facilities during your stay in Low Season.
Our Hot Springs opening hours depends on the weather and the time of the day. As you mentioned the water is very hot during the day time. We maintain at least one hot pool and one cold pool available. There is also another pool that we are converting into a lotus pond.

During the early hours we have a natural well where our hot springs source comes from, and for the main reason the density and tone of the water is not from dirt or poor maintenance. We keep a strict hygiene control, empty the pool, rinse, and treat the pool before renewing the pool from our natural hot springs source.
We recommend guest to try our hot springs in the later afternoon for the right temperature.
We always keep trying to remain our eco-friendly vision, and do not waste too much power to fill up 3 pools if we have a small amount of guest in house. All Eco Friends would welcome that.
Thank you again for preferring us. We value your contribution and we hope that in the near future perhaps in high season, we have the opportunity to welcome you and your company again.

Your Hotel Kokoro Team

Had a wonderful time at Kokoro. An amazing view right from our room. Very well maintained grounds...but most of all, a great staff... I cannot thank the staff enough. I forgot my brand new Macbook behind and did not realize it until 4 days later. The staff had found it and tried to get in touch with me right away. Once I realized where I had left it and got in touch with them...they then arranged for my computer to be delivered to my next hotel. Amazing service !! thank you, thank you!

We found this place on Trip Advisor and, truthfully, the reviews did not give it the credit this place deserves. The grounds are pretty vast and adorned with all the tropical beautiful foliage you would expect to see around Arenal, but this place has amazing trees and flowers that seem pretty unique to this area. These folks maintain this area in a remarkable way, and it's almost a self-imposed meditation sitting outside your cottage looking at the often-cloud covered volcano and taking in the sights, sounds and smells of this terrific place. And, while Kokoro is defined as a "hotel," it is much different than a typical hotel. The "hotel" rooms are free-standing cottages, some connected to one or two others, but you sure don't feel like you're in a hotel. We did not use the pool, but it appeared to be very clean and well maintained (like the entire place). It felt more "resort-like" than "hotel-like" to us. We enjoyed the on site natural hot springs. The open-air lobby / welcoming center was very comfortable with four of five seating areas, couches, tables and chairs. One evening we (two married couples, mid to late forties) spent a couple hours hanging out together in that "lobby" space, playing cards and having a few of our own home-made drinks, and there were two other small groups like ours hanging around in there doing the same thing, and there was plenty of room for all. The staff was exceptionally friendly, professional, and responsive. If you are going to spend some time in the Arenal / La Fortuna area, you cannot go wrong with this place, which, by the way, was also among the least expensive of the places we looked at before booking.

He visited La Fortuna on our honeymoon and stayed at Hotel Kokoro Arenal. We weren't looking for luxury, just someplace simple, clean, quiet, and friendly to stay and our trip agent found the perfect spot. We can't say enough about the staff. We especially appreciated their restaurant recommendations which helped us find some of the best food of our whole trip!!! We highly recommend Hotel Kokoro Arenal. And the grounds and drive in were absolutely beautiful too :)
