Great location and very good price. The breakfast was delicious every morning! The hot springs weren't on one night which was a shame, but the staff said that they were going to go and refresh them as soon as we told them. The hotel was very clean, and had a great feel to it.

Friendly, warm and inviting. The people are what makes this place great. A very kind and helpful staff. You stay here because you want to be relaxed in a beautiful environment. If you want the fancy hot springs and luxury amenities (and crowds and prices), this is not your place. That's not to say anything negative about the stay, but if you're high maintenance, stay away. If I came back, I would stay here and use the money I saved to get a day pass at Tabacon or The Springs.

After reading the glowing reviews on Tripadvisor, my wife and I stayed at this hotel on our trip to the La Fortuna area, and it did not disappoint.

The grounds of the hotel are beautifully maintained. When you drive into the property, you definitely feel like they have spent time nurturing the landscape to give the hotel a getaway feel. The reception area has multiple tables and couches to lounge in while checking your email, grabbing a beer (they offer reasonably priced cold beer/wine), or mingling with other guests and the staff.

We booked a king room, which was enormous, and if you have cabin 9 (our cabin) it is close enough to the lobby in order to pick up wifi signal. The room itself was simple and clean with our only wish being more lighting during nighttime. A/C did not work initially but they got it up and running in a few days.

Breakfast is served from 7-9 am and vied for the best meal we had in La Fortuna. We looked forward to the mornings when we had no activities planned just so we could back for seconds (..and thirds) of the beans and rice with homemade salsa. Other items included fresh fruit, pancakes, cereal, and eggs.

The small hotsprings area on the hotel property was relaxing but, unfortunately, broke down towards the end of our stay. It is nothing as grand as the big name hotspring places, but definitely something to enjoy after a long day of activities (and without all the crowds!). The staff had gotten the springs back up and operational at the end of our stay, so if you are booking for upcoming trips, you should be good to go (you can always shoot them an email to be sure).

The real strength of the hotel was the people. We spent a lot of time getting to Felico, the son of the owners, and found him to be warm and engaging. He and Fernando really make you feel at home by adding a personal dimension to the experience, which I had previously never had in my travels. With Felico in particular, my wife and I both feel that we made a new friend. One of the best experiences was heading to Casa Rio Fortuna with Felico and enjoying a tipica meal with him.

Other: Hotel is about a 8 dollar private car ride from town. All tours picked us up from the hotel without extra charge except for sky trek which cost 11 dollars extra per person for a round trip ride.

Overall: Great choice for the price and service. There are nicer properties with more amenities in the area but they come with an associated higher price.

Room Tip: Cabin 9 is close to the lobby in order to get wifi signal if you need it.

One reason we chose this hotel was for its small on property hot springs. However they did not work at all during our stay (apparently damaged by lightning). I think they should lower their prices until they get this fixed.

That said, rooms are great - huge, comfortable, beautifully decorated. Gardens are lush and full of gorgeous tropical flowers. Beds are large and comfortable. Rooms include fridge, tv, ceiling fan, air conditioning (you don't need it - open the jalousy part of the window and fall asleep to the sounds of cicadas and other woodsy creatures).

Staff is friendly and helpful. However be aware that they get commissions on whatever they sell you, so they are not just "being nice."

Breakfast (included) was lovely. In a large outdoor space (lunch and dinner also available if you ask in advance) with fresh fruit, eggs, gallo pinto, fresh juice and delicious strong coffee, among other items.

Although we could not use the hot pools, we did swim in the beautiful and pristine swimming pool, which we really enjoyed.

Everyone in the La Fortuna area will be pushing tours of all kinds on you. I'll recommend two, both of which can be arranged through the hotel: fauna oriented nature walk with Geovani (you can also try to set this up on your own at arenalguide.gmail.com or 86269348) who will spot and help you photograph all kinds of birds, frogs, monkeys, etc. in only a few hour; tour of a small chocolate plantation just a few minutes drive from the hotel.

This property run by a young Taiwanese guy who speaks excellent Spanish and English has so much more personality than the big resorts and is soothingly beautiful and peaceful. It is just 8 km. outside of La Fortuna, with all kinds of activities in the Arenal area easily accessible.

Highly recommended, but ask for a discount if they don't get their spa fixed promptly.

My wife and I spent two nights at this hotel in early July. This property has beautiful grounds and well furnished rooms. The staff is very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed speaking with owners son Philippe. He recommended a few places to eat and activities to do in the area. We tried a couple of his recommendatins and really liked them. The cabin is definitely rustic, perfect for the setting with a nice view of Arenal. It did have a television, refrigerator and air conditioning. Breakfast includes delicious pineapples, papaya and watermelon. A choice of either american breakfast(scrammbled eggs, ham and toast) or typical ( rice, black beans, fried yellow plaintains and vegetables. They also have cereal. Dinner included home cooked meals (cascado , pasta and fish). We enjoyed the on-site hot springs. The natural setting and warm water helped us to relax after a day of exploration in the area. There was also a nice pool area although we did not go in. For those looking for a natural, more tranquil setting, this may be the place for you. It's a little far from town so you need your own transportation.
