When planning our trip to Arenal we thought Hotel El Silencio del Campo would be an upgrade from the B&Bs we'd been staying in but we had no idea how amazing of an upgrade it would be!

We arrived from Monteverde via Jeep-Boat-Jeep and were greeted with Strawberry Daiquiri's and a friendly smile by Elio at the front desk. We got settled into Cabana 17 and were immediately impressed by how large the room and bathroom were and how wonderful it was to have AC! I went down to the Hot Spring and enjoyed the soothing warm waters of this kid-free area with a Pina Colada and great conversation with my fellow travelers.

We had dinner in the restaurant and enjoyed the Casado's and Cafe con leche with Dessert! We met fabulous people and ended up spending the entire next day exploring La Cattaratas (Waterfalls) and the Volcano - incredible!

The service was fantastic, Elio even delivered fresh fruit to us to eat for breakfast when our shuttle left at 5am. The rooms were clean, cool and spacious with beautiful porches to sit and enjoy the volcano views. The bar at the Hot Spring was wonderful and the breakfast was delicious.

We stayed here 2 nights and would love to have stayed longer! It was our favorite part of the trip!

We stayed in Silencio del Campo during Easter week (Spring break). Silencio del Campo is an excellent place to stay in Ls Fortuna/Arenal. The staff, Don Luis, Katia, Eliomar and Humberto, was professional, friendly and very helpful. The setting is very beautiful with a thermal pool behind the cabins (“casitas”) surrounded by tropical plants and walking paths. The landscaping was beautiful. You can see the volcano from most of the casitas. The casitas were comfortable, clean and pretty. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and accompanied by local fruits. My daughter got a complimentary facial. This is one of the best places we have stayed in CR. Our kids, ages 13 and 11, my husband and I loved it!

The Ecotermales Springs next door are small compared to Baldi and Tabacon but they are also very personal. I highly recommend their family style buffet. Mirella, the owner was very friendly and she is the sister of the owners of Silencio del Campo, so you should be able to get a discount to the springs. Mirella was very kind to us and gave us aloe for our daughter’s sun burned skin.

Simply put there is no reason to stay some place more expensive. This has all we could have asked for: great location, service, attention to detail and the food was pretty darn good, too!
Just a question, though the Hot Springs they have are wonderful, its 95 degrees outside??
We were here for 25th Anniversary with our 18 & 21 y.o children, who each brought a friend. We were all blown away!

We picked El Silencio del Campo based on other TripAdvisor reviews and we were not disappointed. For the price we paid (not cheap, but not super expensive), we were pleased with the facilities, the hot springs, and especially the spa services and free facial. The welcome drink was another nice touch. We both got spa treatments that were fantastic, and a great bargain.

While the hotel's service was exceptional on the surface, we did experience some issues booking tours. First, the hotel couldn't match the tour company's published prices, but after they told us about their commission structure and how they would get very little money booking us at the published price, we agreed to help them out and book anyway at a higher price. Then they still couldn't book us and asked us to book another day after we would already be gone. Finally, we were getting pretty frustrated and told the guy we would put a tip in the giant tip jar and just book it ourselves. He tapped the side of the tip jar and said that it would be fine. We ended up booking the tour ourselves online and had no problems booking the date we wanted.

While I genuinely believe the guy at the desk was trying to be helpful, and the tour company could have played a major role in our less-than-fantastic booking experience, it became very obvious to us (if we couldn't already tell from the giant fish bowl for tips on the counter) that some staff members were very driven by tips and tour commissions -- sometimes at the cost of service.

Other tour bookings were mostly smooth, but after a few more weird moments we really wished we had booked everything ourselves.

To be fair, we noticed some of the front desk staff members actually hid the tip jar behind the counter when they were working, and we had plenty of positive experiences with all of the staff members we encountered. Thanks to everyone at El Silencio del Campo who helped make our honeymoon in Costa Rica special!
