The place is very beautiful and the price is good.....it is near to all the things you want to do and from the city center of la fortuna....the service is very good and the food from the restaurant is very good....Nice litle cabin and beautiful view of the Volcano and also our private hot spring so that you can save money from other hot spring....A most stay, i give it 5 stars.

You get your own little cottage surrounded by amazing gardens. the Hot tubs from the volcanic waters pumped up were amazing and no need to pay to go to other hot tubs, these are the real deal. Food at the restaurant was very good, despite being small, it was great. Taxi from here to town was about $7 each way so not too bad. Tour companies pick you up from your hotel so very convenient. Service, rooms all good.

Room Tip: We liked having rooms close to the front, as we were in/out and to restaurant more than our one trek...

Nice reasonably priced resort in the La Fortuna area. The cabins and grounds are well maintained and the staff is helpful. Our kids loved running around the grounds and some of their favorite memories are dancing (and then swimming) in the afternoon downpours (when there wasn't thunder and lightning.) They also loved the natural springs hot tub (a large pool actually), and watching the birds come to feed in the morning outside the open air restaurant (the resort puts out fruit).

The one obvious downside is that right next to this resort is a large, imposing, and not very pretty, hotel. Not much the resort owners can do about this - and at least that neighboring hotel is reasonably quiet (unlike Baldi Hotsprings - which is about 100 yard down the road on the opposite side of the road.).

Note on roads and location - before we arrived we worried that the roads would be in poor shape and make location critical. However we generally found all the roads in Costa Rica to be in good shape. No washouts, no systemic problem with pot holes, ... . The one problem is that many of the roads away from the tourist areas are very narrow and/or twisty - which is not generally a problem unless you want to pass someone (e.g. one of the many agricultural produce trucks.).

Potable water - after reading multiple tour books we felt comfortable trying the tap water in La Fortuna. No problems. No one got sick even after days of drinking it.

Note on the food - the kids were, predictably, not so fond of the food (breakfast every morning - and we ate lunch/dinner there occasionally) because it was unfamiliar. But the adults found that, in general, it was actually pretty good food. Better than most of the restaurants available in town - so worth spending at least a few relaxing lunches or dinners at the resort.

stayed for 2 nights, booked it last minute, in the high season and so prices were high (200$ per night).
The villa itself was great, had a problem with the hot water that was fixed 5 minutes after we called.
Cleaning itself wasn't perfect as the bathroom was a bit neglected.
Besides that staff is extremely nice and helpfull.

The springs are very nice, but very mediocre if you compare them to the serious places.

As for breakfast, very nice but very basic with limited selection and limited toppings.

To sum it up, a great place with a really great service but for the price we payed maybe we expected just a bit more...

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at El Silencio del Campo. While the rooms themselves were not luxe, they were large, clean and quiet--if a tad dark. That, however, was more than made up for by the grounds, the spa, the service, the quiet, and the location. I got up early my first morning and walked around the grounds looking for birds to photograph. I met a man who turned out to be the owner, who told me about all the birds in the area, and gave me lots of ideas of places to visit. He was lovely! But the biggest surprise was the spa. I used the complimentary mud facial as an excuse to get a number of treatments--which took place in private cabanas and came with the use of a private hot spring, which was fed just for me from the volcanic waters and poured over my head in a waterfall. The fireflies lit up the trees above, and it was an absolutely idyllic experience. The restaurant was pleasant, and they also brought room service to my private deck. I loved how personal and low key the hotel was--and would definitely recommend it for any traveler who wants a quiet and more authentic experience of Arenal--which seemed full of overwrought, large touristy hotels. And it was very safe for the single traveler!

I was so pleasantly surprised when we got to the hotel. The bungolow style hotel rooms are very clean and cute. The hot springs at the hotel are amazing. The spa is a must as it's very remote and has open air gazebos where the treatments happen. Highly recommended from a hotel snob!!!

Room Tip: Cabin 21 is a good location as it's off the main path so far from the street and no one will be...

El Silencio exceeded our expectations and it is stunningly beautiful. The big huge ugly hotel next door is easy to ignore with the way the El Silencio has landscaped the grounds. The individual lodges are spacious, clean, and romantic (bring matches for the candles). The free facial special was awesome and we returned for a couples massage. So relaxing. The grounds are gorgeous and peaceful. The people at the front desk were very helpful and even loaned us a birding book for the Cano Negro tour. Before we arrived, Eliomar and Eylin answered a million questions and arranged our trips and transport for us. The transport from our previous location to El Silencio (Volcano Shuttle- arranged by El Silencio and highly recommended) was timely, clean, and a fantastic way to see the country without the stress of driving yourself . Bring a travel clock or make sure your phone has an alarm if you need to get up early as there are no alarm clocks in the rooms. The hot springs are amazing, clean, and fairly private (we had them all to ourselves several times.) The bartender Jose, answered a lot of questions about the country and culture, he was great! The food in the restaurant was good, the atmosphere better. Vegetarian options are limited. They also have another menu at the bar which featured more comfort-type foods (burgers, nachos, etc.) We loved the stuffed patacones. As mentioned, we expected a lot from El Silencio based on their reviews and we were not disappointed! We stayed 3 nights but wish we made it a few more and hope to return someday!
