My fiancee, her parents and aunt and uncle just returned from a weeklong trip to Costa Rica. We stayed 3 nights at Hotel Silencio del Campo, and all of us (even my fiancee's fussy aunt) loved it!

The staff was very sweet and accomodating, yet unobtrusive. They greeted us with a delicious fruity drink when we checked in. Eliomar at the front desk was fun, sweet, and very patient with us as he spent nearly an hour efficiently coordinating our tours, and accommodating us as we repeatedly changed our minds. (Though we speak some Spanish, Eliomar's perfect English was helpful.) Luis the owner made a concerted effort to make us feel welcome and to anticipate our needs. (By way of example, the first morning, he started pulling tables together as we approached the restaurant so the six of us could dine together.)

The rooms are spacious with high ceilings, clean, quiet and private. They have AC and TV, if that matters to you. The staff also does towel origami for you each morning, which we thought was charming.

The grounds are very pretty and meticulously kept. The exotic flowers draw hummingbids, and staff places fresh fruit on tree branches to lure other birds for a nibble. Lolli the Parrot lives by the restaurant. We enjoyed the swimming pool and also the secluded hot spring pool. The property also features a great view of the volcano, when it's not shrouded by clouds.

The free breakfasts were nice, and the dinners were nice and affordable too.

The location is fine. Walking distance to Baldi Hot Springs and Eco Termales (choose the former for partying, the latter for secluded romance). It's about 2-3 miles from "downtown" La Fortuna.

The monstrously large hotel being built next door was the only downside of the stay, because they tested their obnoxious fire alarms on 2 different days. (We weren't bothered by any construction noise though.) My fiancee also felt like the construction workers were gawking at her from the monster's roof when she swam.

If you're lucky enough to stay here, I can't imagine that you wouldn't be happy with your choice.

Our family (two adults and four grown children) stayed here for two nights. With breathtaking views, friendly/knowledgeable/reliable staff, private hot springs, clean and comfortable cabanas, and food and drink at your beckon call--this hotel was perfect.

The not-yet-opened hotel next door didn't impact our stay, but makes us nervous for what will happen when it's up and running.

Overall a fantastic time. Def check out the eco therm hot springs next door (we walked, a bit scary in the dark, but the springs folks offered to drive us back).

Except for the ugly monstrosity of a hotel next door which appears to represent the future disneyfication of La Fortuna/Arenal, we loved pretty well everything about El Silencio. Each room is a spacious cabin with a roomy shower and good beds. Minor complaint on the beds is that they l(ike every other hotel with the exception of only two hotels where we stayed (Posada el Quijote and Issimo Suites) had flimsy small pillows. Beautiful gardens, a lovely view of Volcan Arenal (when it chooses to show itself). A nice pool and extra bonus a hot springs pool at the back of the property (my wife and daughter did encounter a small red snake in the pool which cut their hot springs time short but that is nature and why you are in Costa Rica). There was a bar by the pool.
Great breakfasts, wonderful hosts and servers, tours arranged, Tiki the chihuahua and the parrot all made our 4 days wonderful.
El Silencio is what La Fortuna can and should be at its best. Magic Mountain and whatever the thing next door will be called are not.

After a grueling 8-hour drive from Dominical, on the coast of Costa Rica, we were greeted with smiles, fresh papaya juice, and a happy little dance from adorable resident chihuahua, Tiki. The tension just melted away instantly, and we were smitten. By far the best place we've ever stayed. We had cabin #15, at the far end of the property, which was closest to the on-campus hot springs and the charming duck pond, and offered the most privacy. We fell asleep to the chirping of frogs--a very nice respite from our daily life in NYC, where we fall asleep to sirens! The cabins are unexpectedly roomy and well-appointed. The breakfast was terrific. The location proved to be a perfect mid-way point between the many activities available in the area. ***Another recommendation is to visit Eco-Termales Hot Springs, which is across the street from the garish Baldi Springs. It's hidden behind an unmarked wooden door/gate, and I believe it has some connection with the hotel.

Just returned from a three-night stay in Arenal. The property is beautiful and consists of 15-16 separate cabins with great views of the volcano (non-lava side). The rooms are immaculate and the staff is very friendly and helpful. We also loved the private hot springs at the rear of the property! Highly recommend this location.
