“Really enjoyed this place”
Reviewed March 13, 2012

My husband and I stayed here the end of February 2012 and it was a positive experience. Things i really liked about this hotel:
Breakfast was included, and it was a good breakfast.
The gardens were immaculate, and full of birds!
I got to see a variety of different birds at the fruit tree during breakfast each morning.
The rooms were very clean and had a safe.
The bar down at the hot spring
The hot spring
The spa at the back in the peaceful gardens
Having my own casita
Large bathroom in the casita
The staff were friendly and accommodating
Clean pool area
It was generally quiet and peaceful
Things I didn't like
The monster hotel next door was rather imposing

This is not a five star hotel, but it is a really good place to stay as a couple or as a family. I highly recommend this place. It is my favourite and we stay in 6 different places while we were in Costa Rica, from boutique hotels to mainstream americanized ones, and our own private villa with pool and this is the hotel I would go back too.

Room Tip: We had a room near the back and we were close to the bar and hot spring but further away from the ma...

We stayed here for 4 nights in January 2012. The cabins were large (I'm recovering from a back issue and appreciated the space to do daily exercising and stretching), clean and the beds comfortable. I also liked the fact that the sink and large mirror area are outside the bathroom, so I could get ready while my husband was showering, etc . It's in a perfect location; not too far from town (short cab or rental car drive), but far enough out to be on large, immaculate grounds with beautiful flowers, plants, ducks, etc. Loved the little patio outside to sit and enjoy some coffee, or read and relax between outings. The hot springs on the property was nice, a great way to unwind after a day of ziplining, hiking, etc.; and the drinks were tasty, although it would have been nice if the bar were open a little later. Wi-fi worked great throughout and there was also a laptop for guest use in the open air hotel lobby. The staff was helpful when you needed them. The breakfasts were good and served in the open air dining area. The only trouble we had was the hot water pressure wasn't very good; we had to turn the hot all the way on (and no cold) in order to take a hot shower. We dealt with it though (didn't find it a big enough issue to inquire about it). If you rent a car and stay toward the back of the property (higher room numbers), your car will be closer to your cabin. We had a great view of the volcano from room 17; the monstrosity next door was only a minor distraction. I'd stay here again in a heart beat!!

Room Tip: Higher numbers are toward the back, closer to the hot springs, pool, and parking, but farther from t...

Loved this place -- better than other places we stayed that cost far more. Nice separate casitas. Beautiful grounds and we even saw a toucan while there. The hot springs are great -- it is the large black bottom pool with waterfall in the picture. There was a family of large green lizards that rested just above the falls while we were there. The water is very hot, perhaps 104 F and the surroundings are tranquil. If you get thirsty, there is a bartender mixing great drinks right there and you can also order food. There was a volleyball court about 50 meters away which we enjoyed. The staff was friendly, providing great service with a smile. The food at this hotel was OK, nothing special, but comparable to what you find at most nice restaurants.

Room Tip: Two or three of the casistas are close to the main road so could be noisy.

Second time we were there in 2 years and the same quality experience. The grounds are beautiful, the view of the volcano is perfect, the casitas are very comfortable and spacious. The dinner food is good, not quite as good as last time (seemed like more fried offerings) we were there but I think they have a new chef from what we were told. HOWEVER! I highly recommend the quesadillas! They are HUGE and wonderful! Breakfast is perfect and the fruit is great! Why the papaya here in US is so bland and it is so flavorful here is beyond me!
Some have reviewed about the hot springs in back not being as warm. We did not have that experience wither time we have been there and while the volcano is not as active, the hot springs were just that. One day we were even forbidden from entering the pool due to the heat of it. And yes the view of the volcano does have a gaudy hotel to the left but it is not Silencio's fault - plus you get used to it and you can kinda focus it out of your sight. Note about this hotel - EVERYONE in La Fortuna and Arenal area hates this monstrosity as it is too big and too darned close to the road.
Just stay at Silencio, get a casita in the back like other reviewers have stated (19-21 are furthest back). Then go back to hot springs and enjoy a cold drink on the pool deck and let Silencio take care of you. You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Get rooms mid-property back as road noise can be bothersome the closer you are to the front of the...

Me and my girlfriend just stayed here for 4 nights and we loved it. The service was amazing and they helped us every step of the way. As with most hotels in La Fortuna, you need a taxi to take you in to town but they will call you one and it only costs $7. They have their own hot spring(!!!) and spa. You can see the Arenal volcano outside your window. Worth every penny.

This hotel was different than most where you have your individual cabin. Surrounded by nature at its best. Good view of the volcano and wonderful hot springs.
