“Awesome and Cute”
Reviewed March 31, 2014

If you want to spend your funds wisely, this is a great place to stay at $70/night.

We spent 2 nights here and both nights were great. As expected there were some bugs, but nothing too much to complain about. Location wise its great, its not in the heart of the town square, but it is easily accessible and no more than 8 minutes walking. The breakfast buffet was traditional rice and beans, toast, eggs, pancakes, coffee, orange juice, and fruits. Conveniently located near the hot springs (make sure you go to Baldi!!), it is a $9 cab ride.

Rooms were clean, no stench, tv, no wifi in room only in lobby.

Bed was okay, clean sheets, great AC, friendly staff. GREAT garden, and amazing volcano view.

They are in the middle of adding more cabins and a pool with a wet bar.

Very Safe and plenty secure parking spaces!

I would stay again 100% and would prefer to stay.

Super close to the Fortuna downtown, really accessible prices and awesome warm staff members.
Privacy as one of the most valuable tips of the hotel rooms, AC, hair dryer, Cable TV, comfortable bed, spacious room.

Room Tip: Better rooms with one bed, they are more spacious

The hotel is a 5min walk from the centre of town, and represents great value for the price. The rooms were clean, staff was friendly - and the breakfast was wonderful. Pool was also very nice - wifi only available at the front desk.

Room Tip: Wifi is only available at the front desk - but the rooms close to the front desk probably get it in...

We booked this hotel because it was reasonably priced and seemed to be in a good location. I actually liked the little cabin style rooms, they were good sized and the bathroom was nice too. Unfortunately, the bed was extremely uncomfortable. Additionally, as a few others have noted, the walls are very thin and you can hear just about everything your neighbors are saying or doing. The breakfast was sort of a disaster, appeared to be a fried hot dog with some cold eggs, fruit and rice/beans. The breakfast was the same each day...I guess you get what you pay for. We originally planned to stay here for three nights but after a second night on that hard bed and more cold eggs in the morning, we checked out a day early and headed to Manuel Antonio....so glad we did!

Room Tip: Bring ear plugs

Spent 4 nights in Montechiari cabins. 10mins walk from towncentre, b.eautiful large rooms, comfortable bathroom and extremely large double bed, large LCD TV, nice pool, beautiful gardens , amazing volcano views and helpful reception staff (Gustavo and Maria) although they do not speak good english. Staff can organize all tours for you with transportation. Btw ask for room 30 :)

Cons:

Bfast issue - 1. Always the same with alternating days of sausages 2. Pls buy a toaster and let clients do their own toast. Your toast is a cracker! 3. Provide cereal.

Bearing in mind that the reception staff were really helpfull, it would be ideal if they have spoken english. This would make the tourists' stay easier!

The small wooden hut next to the pool would make an ideal bar. And some more poolside furniture would be better.

I have not submitted a 5star review because of these issues however I still recommend theae cabins

My honey and I spent 3 nights at the Montechiari, first stop on our short but, full week vacation in Costa Rica. The accommodation was a small two room cabina with a terrace looking out on the beautiful nature and the Arenal Volcano. You can consider the cabina a big square, 3/4 bedroom and 1/4 bathroom; big windows, air conditioning, television, ours had a king size comfortable bed, plenty of space, very clean. The bathroom was large, new, tiled with and excellent shower. The place was basic, but very nice. On the downside, lighting could have been better and you could hear activity in the other cabinas (all fairly close together); neither of these two negatives bothered us enough to take away from our overall enjoyment. The Montechiari has a very nice, small pool, and breakfast (included) was very good and more than sufficient: eggs, pancakes, rice and beans, toast, juice, fruit, etc. The Montechiari is a short ten minute walk to the small town of La Fortuna - restaurants, bars, markets, tourists, the usual - nothing too exciting. We chose the Montechiari based on other reviews here and elsewhere, the excellent price for what you get, the proximity to the Arenal volcano and La Fortuna, and a base for our planned activities of Canyoning and White Water rafting. We were very happy with our choice and would definitely recommend the Montechiari, but do your own research, we met many people during our activities staying at a whole range of places, and who seemed to be satisfied with their accommodations. But again, this is a good choice.

Room Tip: Ask for a cabin at the end of the row of cabins towards the volcano, and maybe for more privacy, on...

OK, it's not a perfect 5 star resort, but I had to give this an "excellent" rating because that's how our overall experience was. We had a car, but I probably wouldn't recommend this place if you are on foot - it seemed far from town to me, which was what we loved about it! The huts actually use a regular key which I thought was so cool. The owners were very nice, admittedly we speak at least adequate Spanish, and I'm sure that was helpful, but it is a Spanish speaking country, after all. They were very helpful on answering our questions about the area, and giving us ideas of places to eat or how long they thought it would get to certain places (our GPS was not all that helpful around here for some reason). The Wifi does only work by the main lobby, but I just went down and uploaded my daily instagram picture to show off to my friends and then went back and relaxed in the room watching my Spanish Disney channel with my teenagers.
Lighting is pretty dim, but we had headlamps for reading. Shower was lacking water pressure, for sure, but it works and the water was hot. Beds are sort of like foam mats, but I actually slept really well. They do have a fridge (you need to plug it in when you get there) which I didn't expect, and even had a little hair dryer in the bathroom. The air conditioner also worked really well, and kept the room at a nice comfy sleeping temperature.
The foliage is beautiful, definitely take your camera with you to breakfast as there were birds out every day - there was even a toucan, a really small toucan, but still... the fruit was good, they had pancakes, toast, and of course, the standard scrambled eggs and beans/rice. OJ was definitely TANG so I didn't have any of that, but the water was good, and the watermelon was so sweet.
If I go back to La Fortuna I wouldn't stay anywhere else. We booked only a few weeks before our trip and I can't believe this place was still available. We loved it.
