We just finished spending two lovely nights at this small, family-owned hotel near the Arenal Volcano. Each room is actually an individual cabin. We had plenty of hot water, a nice little private porch, and the landscaping was beautiful. We crossed over a bridge every morning for our breakfast, which was a choice of three different types. Both the fruit plate and the traditional rice and bean tortilla were delicious.

The staff was very kind, allowing us to use their computer, fax, and phone without reserve, and offering to book trips for us. The location was more remote than other Fortuna hotels, so there was not a lot of traffic to worry about.

VERY near the gorgeous La Fortuna waterfall!

All in all, a very comfortable and lovely stay!!

This place was so perfect. In the early days of our trip we stayed at a condo a few hours south, and this was a great change of pace, surrounded by nature. The cabins were nice with very comfy beds and all the amenities you need. Nice, large shower, everything was clean. I can't say enough about the amazing family that owns the cabins- they are so helpful and sweet. For only $6 they cook you a fresh breakfast of your choice, over the bridge to an open grassy area, while you have views of the volcano and gorgeous colorful birds eating fruit. The daughter, Monica speaks very good English and informed us that her father was learning English, and we were very impressed with his English. Great family owned place, great price, $90 total with tax for 4 people. It's also across the street from an art gallery, and within 5 minutes of horseback rides to La Fortuna and hot springs. Will definitely stay there again, but just a word of warning, there are screens and shutters on windows but no glass, so you can hear the rooster at sunrise, but it was nice to hear all the nature sounds!!

Agree with nearly all of the last review.

We stayed there for 4 nights in mid-January. This was a very pleasant place to stay that was near all amenities in "downtown" La Fortuna. The staff (I interacted mostly with German, the owner, and Gerardo, the daily manager) was extremely nice and made me feel very welcome.

The cabin was clean (sparkling tile floors!), the bed was comfortable, and the AC was handy for humid evenings, or mid-afternoon naps.

Breakfast is in a beautiful setting, with views of the volcano and the birds feeding in the morning. Lunches and dinners were a nice 25 minute walk or $2-3 cab ride away, and we also were able to walk to the Rio Fortuna waterfall.

The one issue was the hot water. I guess it's heated electrically (not one of the "suicide" showers you read about -- there's nothing electrical in the actual shower), and when I checked in German showed me the circuit breaker in case it tripped while showering and a few seconds later the water would go cold. Sure enough, it tripped every now and then. Had to keep water pressure low to keep it from tripping too often.

But like the last reviewer said, the place was well worth the price paid, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for somebody that is ok not being at a luxury resort.

We stayed at Arenal Green for three nights in mid-January. The cabins are a great size, very clean, and are wonderfully equipped with a microwave, kitchen sink, fridge, coffee maker, and a/c, which is relatively uncommon. It's about a 25 minute walk outside of town (or $2-4 cab ride), so it's nice and quiet.

The owner and desk staff are very friendly and helpful, with plenty of resources for booking excursions at good prices. If you'll be in Fortuna for at least a couple of days DEFINITELY wait until you get there to book your adventures, as their rates were much lower than what I'd seen online previously.

The breakfast was delicious and cheap, and the breakfast area was very peaceful with plenty of colorful birds on the feeders and a nice view of Arenal. There's a nice open-air soda at the end of the dirt road toward town (about a 10 minute walk) or plenty of other options in town (about a 20-25 minute walk) including several bodegas and grocery stores.

My only complaints were privacy (the cabins are not sound proof and are close together, so it's easy to hear neighbor's conversations), and water (most of our showers were barely lukewarm), but nothing that would prevent me from staying again, especially for $60/night!

My boyfriend and I stayed two nights here at this small, intimate, lovely hotel and we loved it! The owner family was always so welcoming and so helpful that you can't help but feel very well taken-care of. The cabin was clean, comfortable, and well-furnished. The bathroom was very nice and our cabin had a refrigerator, A/C, and kitchen sink as well. Since the hotel is a little outside the city La Fortuna it was very quiet except for the sounds of nature. An option was to have breakfast (made by the owner himself) at the hotel which we gladly took both mornings. The food ($6 for a very hearty breakfast) was delicious! Another perk was that you can take a 30-40 minute hike to the entrance of the La Fortuna waterfall park. It was also a 30-40 minute hike to La Fortuna. The hotel was also very willing to arrange tours and transportation for us. They also have free internet at the desk counter available for use. This little hotel was a hugely refreshing and comforting place to stay at.

We just returned back after a wonderful 10 day vacation in Costa Rica. We enthusiastically recommend staying at Arenal Green in the Arenal /La Fortuna area. The hotel currently has 6 cozy cabins set in a large and lush tropical setting. In addition, the hotel has a separate ranch dining area with picnic tables where travellers could cook and have breakfast/meals. When we were there, German (the friendly owner) treated us to delectable tropical fruits. From the hotel one can see the Arenal volcano. We also saw a variety of tropical birds including the toucan. From the hotel one could take the 2 to 3 km hike dramatic La Fortuna waterfalls. Tough hikers could continue on to Cherro Cheto within the Arenal park. Gerardo (the hotel manager) helped us by making all the travel arrangements and transportation in the Arenal area for very reasonable prices.

We stayed here for 4 nights as we visited La Fortuna during a 10 day stay in Costa Rica. German (owner) and Gerardo (staff) were extrememly nice and helpful during our stay.

Our cabin was nice, clean. Big shower. Fridge, microwave, coffee maker, kitchen sink in room. AC!

Windows dont close...they have shutters with screens so you can hear the rain at night and the chickens in the morning.

Great typical breakfast for $5--eggs, rice/beans, fried plantains, OJ and coffee. Other choices too, such as one with fruit. German and his wife prepare breakfast in the newer kitchen area out back.

Great location away from all the tourists. View of the volcano from the porch--although this side is not the lava side (we knew this when booking). Easy into town, especially if you have a car. If not, short cab ride or walk.

Make sure you go to the end of the road and see the Fortuna waterfall. Beautiful!

Also, Gerardo can book tours with local tour operators (such as Desafio), often for 5-10 bucks per person LESS than the operators themselves. If it is the off season, wait and book it when you get there!

Had a great stay and would definately recommend!
