This place was fabulous! We took a shuttle from San Jose. On the way, we had to make stops and drop off two other separate travelers at their Arenal area hotels. When my wife saw the questionable condition of their hotels, she became very concerned. But when we pulled up to Arenal Springs resort, all she could say was "Wow baby, this place is hooked UP!" Our bungalow was spacious and had a great little front porch to sit and relax and enjoy views of the volcano. The restaurant service and food were very classy--. equivalent to 4 star quality, but priced at only 2 or 3 stars for really good value. Our stay also included a free buffet breakfast each day with incredible fresh fruits and juices, coffee, omelette stand and varied selection of local breakfast fare. By the way, the coffee is always excellent in Costa Rica. My elementary and middle school aged kids fit right in with the honeymooners and adventure seeking early career adults in the resort. A bonus was the internet computers available for free use in the lobby. Even though we were on vacation, I can't begin to tell you how important it was for us to be able to check e-mails each day just to make sure we didn't miss anything important.

Arenal Springs is a beautiful property with reasonable prices. We had a wonderful second floor room with a balcony and rocking chairs. The tub was great as it was a spa tub with steps you had to walk up to get in. We had a full view of the volcano and were so happy.... until the bugs came.

That night while my boyfriend and I slept we both woke up in the morning to find ten to twenty bug bites. There are NO screens on any of the windows and gaps where the doors close allowing all the bugs outside in. Once we came back to our room and found a cricket the size of a half dollar. Our friends were staying next door and they found a frog jumping around their room. When we walked out to leave that evening with them for dinner there were beetles all over the porch.

The staff was extremely rude and too busy chatting to really help. One evening we had reserved tickets to go to the hot springs and a semi had gotten stuck at the entrance to our road (the road is dirt and VERY narrow) We had called for a taxi and they said it was waiting for us. We got ready only to find there was not only no taxi but we were trapped at the hotel because there is NO alternate exit. The truck stayed like that for roughly 36 hours. That was a little scary to think what they would do in an emergency.

The hotel is convenient location to the hotel and it is easy to book any activities and have it charged to the room which is nice. If staying in the Arenal area I would HIGHLY recommend the Sky Tram Zip Line *NOT canopy* It's a little more intense but def. worth it.

My two friends and I stayed at the Arenal Springs Resort on the second night of our seven night visit to Costa Rica. As you can tell from the traveler photos, the hotel offers little stand alone suites for each of its hotel guests. The rooms are gorgeous with breath taking views of the Arenal Volcano. The hotel is a small car ride from town as well as the park. We were also greatly appreciative of the hotel staff. Our room key did not work at about 10:30pm at night, but luckily a member of staff was there to help us get into our room. It was such a relief! The breakfast was also very good. Buffet style with typical food (gallo pinto) as well as continental fare (toast, eggs). I would highly reccomend this hotel to anyone planning to stay in Arenal.
Also - be sure to visit the Baldi Hot Springs while you're in town. It was the highlight of our trip! The price to get in is cheap (about $30) but they make up for it with the price of drinks ($10). So I would reccommed you just enjoy the springs and have a drink elsewhere. The place is unbelievable!

As a group of 9, we decided that we wanted to have a longer stay so we looked into booking a cheaper property. After looking into it and reading all of the reviews as a group we collectively chose this one.
Pros: The grounds are very pleasant and serene. Offered extensive views of the volcano from all of our rooms. Helpful staff. Nice complimentary breakfast. The rooms were much nicer than I expected for $89.00. The pool is small, but very relaxing and Donald the bartender was really awesome. It's a really wonderful setting. The housekeeping was fantastic. The rooms are very clean.

I feel like for the price, you can't complain much. But if I was super picky I'll list a few of our problems.

We had to change rooms because our A/C broke. Staff was very prompt in assisting with all of our needs.

The rooms are quite noisy if your neighbor is home. Our door key had to be reset several times. Very minor things. The staff was always very nice and helped us immediately.

There is so much to do, we were barely in our rooms. It's just a place to lay your head and wash up and it's perfect for that. If your looking for a room that your going to be in a lot instead of outside out on adventures, you might want to try somewhere else if noisy neighbors annoy you. Personally, that is my biggest pet peeve.s However on this trip, being so active and cheap it didn't bother me.

I would definitely stay there again. I really loved the place, the Concierge (Salene) it's terrible I forgot his name- but he was awesome! We loved him. He booked us a really cool tour to Nicaragua for the day. It was a really great experience. Nicaragua was hot, but on the boat it was lovely. He was really great at suggesting the zip lines, hot springs, La Fortuna Waterfall etc. He even arranged to have a birthday cake made for me. He was fantastic! The whole staff was.

So our travel agent Magaly put us here and although you don't get to see the lava flow any more since the active portion moved to the other side it's still a pretty majestic view of Arenal.

The buildings are all duplexes and set back from each other so you can see the volcano pretty easily. We only ate breakfast here but it was a good solid breakfast.

At the pool the staff are really nice and personable and the wet bar is sweet. You can see Arenal pretty easily too while kicking and enjoying a cold Pilsen or Imperial.

The big thing though for us was the staff. We had an problem with our first room and when we went to talk to the front desk they were extremely helpful and Minor, the manager himself helped us out. He gave us a ton of attention to make sure we were comfortable and taken care of and that kind of service really sealed the deal for me.

Working in the service industry for a while, this is the kind of thing I look for when I travel and want something where I won't have any worries. Minor and his staff are great, and I really liked that the place was tucked back off the road...

We recently stayed at the resort - its was very nice. The rooms were clean, but a little small. We had great views of the Volcano almost each dday - perhaps we were lucky. The hotel is NOT facing the side of the volcano were you can see lava - those hotels are around the far side - another 15 minutes drive and make them a bit far from La Fortuna, but close to many of the activities (volcano hikes, zip lines, butterlies, etc.) The grounds were beautiful and it was a good location for the activities in the area and easy access to La Fortuna. Given that everywhere in the area requires a taxi, I would look at renting a car for the stay in this area (taxi's are $7 each way to town, to the hot springs, etc., so renting in La Fortuna might be a good option).

We did the Sky Trek / Sky Tram zip lines - seems very safe and well run - we loved it! But, note that these are very high (some at 600 plus feet up and over 2000 feet long) and fast - not at the tree top level so you will not see wildlife from them - still a great experience and even our kids loved it.

We did run out of hot water for showers 1 -2 times and the pool was a bit cold (fine for mid day, but not late afternoon, and we were out doing things mid day). The concierge was exceptionally good. The restaurant on the grounds is good - highly recommend the seafood soup. The food at Volcano Lodge - just down the dirt road to the resort - was great and extremely well priced.

Nice, large property, with separate duplexes spread out over a large area. Restaurant open air with good food at reasonable prices was very nice. Hotel told us they have a "Jacuzzi" but they have no hot tub or Jacuzzi. Very nice pool area with swim up bar, though water too cold and no one was in pool. Lobby and staff are pleasant and helpful. We never saw Arenal volcano due to constant cloud cover.

  • Liked — Nice location, clean rooms, great restaurant
  • Disliked — Never saw volcano (not the fault of the hotel, though). Not a lot of dining options walkable.
