Arenal Springs has fabulous volcano views, gorgeous landscaping, relaxing hot spring pools and lovely rooms. I most enjoyed sitting on the porch at daybreak watching the steam escape from the top of Arenal with the hummingbirds whizzing by. They were attracted by the pretty and fragrant flowers. The staff were friendly and efficient.

Room Tip: Every room has a beautiful room.

This was the first stop on our trip to Costa Rica and it set the bar very high. We were welcomed with fresh squeezed juices and then taken to our room which was a wonderful little junior suite surrounded by lush foliage and with a view of the Volcano.

THE HOT SPRINGS

Minus the fact that the first thing I do there is go to the hot springs and slip and cut my foot open... these hot springs are amazing. Just be cautious when going to the hot one because the ramp is slightly steep and there is always water around there so walk barefoot or have slip resistant shoes to avoid my mistake. However the pools were all very enjoyable even with one foot held out of the water. Ranging from different temperatures including ice cold they are very relaxing and much more secluded than the famous Tobacan Hot springs. That place is way overrated.

The swim up bar is fantastic you can order food and drinks and ask for Jose he is the best bartender there. Very friendly.

The staff in general was so pleasant making this hotel my absolute favorite of my trip!

OH but i would go into town for dinner. The restaurant here is overpriced and not that good.

We stayed here for the last two nights of our trip to Costa Rica. I wish we could have spent more time here. The resort is beautiful. The view of the volcano is amazing. I love the rooms. Breakfast buffet is included and while its not expansive, it is very good and plenty of variety and good food. The hot springs and pool area is just wonderful. The only negative is the internet access in the room is spotty at best. But the place is too wonderful to spend time on the internet anyway! This place is a definate yes!!

My boyfriend and I started our trip in La Fortuna... this was an amazing hotel. We went with the travel company Terra Verde Travel Costa Rica and during the off season last year. We had the most amazing breakfasts here. The rooms were super clean and even had laundry service, not that we used it. The showers let rain water trickle in to the plants and the porches face the volcano. We took a guided night hike, they picked us up from our hotel, and we saw lot and lots of frogs. The pool was amazing, warm, and I even swam up to the bar for a night cap. We ate at a great little restaurant on the main road in La Fortuna called Lava Rocks and loved the wraps they had. And went to Nene's Restaurant another night... ok food. The cerviche at Nene's was about the only thing we loved and it was delicious.

My Girlfriend and I spent 3 nights here for the first half of our week in Costa Rica. We arrive at night and when we woke up and saw that volcano. . . breathtaking. This place was absolutely everything we wanted. Food was great. Service spectacular. The grounds and overall atmosphere were almost too relaxing. We went during the off season so we basically had the run of the place with a few other couples. And I tell ya what, it was perfect. Oh and one other thing, as goofy as it sounds, I'd go back just for the bathroom alone that is in the suites. An shower wall that is open to the rain as it comes in? Yes please. Three thumbs way up.

We spent last night here and it was wonderful! We had a junior suite with a volcano view and even though there was a terrific rainstorm our stay was wonderful! The suite was gorgeous with a nice volcano design on the lampshades etc. The walk up shower has a volcano view as does one of the two queen beds in this unit. The staff are terrific. We spent all evening in the hot springs pool and had a great time talking to the bartender of the wet bar. We had fresh made sushi and a drink and really enjoyed the hot springs pools. The next day we had the breakfast buffet which was included in the cost of the resort. You can be driven from your room to the pool, restaurant etc. Early in the morning the weather cleared and we had a magnificent view of the volcano for a few hours and took lots of pictures. This resort is top notch!!

Room Tip: Ask for a suite with volcano view!

I visited this resort in September 2011 with my husband, mother and mother-in-law. It was the rainy (off) season so one of the pools was closed. But, it wasn't as busy (which was a bonus). The resort was beautiful with breathtaking views of the Arenal Volcano. It was a photographers or naturalist's dream. On some mornings, the mountains were misty and completely covered the volcano. But the transformation towards the end of the day was amazing - you could see different parts of the volcano. Even throughout the day, the views would change. We had done a bit of research before we left and were excitedly anticipating lava come tumbling down. Unfortunately, when we were there, this didn't happen. We found out that it became less active about a year prior to our arrival. But, that didn't make the views any less gorgeous. As for flora and fauna - we saw and heard some birds and insects. The vegetation was amazing as well. The whole area had an unforgettable (but indescribable) fresh smell.

The other goods: The resort was spacious, clean and private. I was mesmerized by the showers. The shower portion had a louvered roof, with purposeful lush vegetation growing on one end. When it rained, it was magical watching the rain fall through the roof on to the plants. I felt like I was in a shampoo commercial... or in a movie. Our vacation was planned by our travel agent in Vancouver, BC. So, we didn't have a lot of contact with the hotel staff. The contact we did have was fine. The other plus was the food. We had included breakfasts which was really good. Not a lot of variety but hey, good food is good food. We did have an excellent dinner (extra cost) on one of the evenings. (I was surprised to learn that food in Costa Rica is actually quite mild in flavour.)

PROS: Small resort, gorgeous scenery, awesome food, magical shower
CONS: Isolated, need to bring snacks if you don't want to eat onsite, not much to do onsite except eat/sleep/swim and look at the views, too humid in rainy season for clothes to dry outside, no fitness or spa, limited space for running/walking
Summary: I would go back in a heart beat
