Tree Houses Hotel Costa Rica
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 20, 2008

The Tree House Hotel is a fantastic way to really experience Costa Rica! Treehouses are clean and cozy. The hosts are excellent and have great recommendations on everything from dining to souvenier shopping to adventures. Be sure to take morning walks to the river, you're sure to see lots of wildlife! Breakfast is wonderful!

We stayed at Tree Houses for our last night in the Arenal area. It was a fantastic way to go out since it is out of the city a bit. Our cabin was right across from the reception area and pulling in my first reaction was "There's a huge cabin up in the trees!" I knew what to expect but it was even cooler in person. The cabin was large and clean. It even had a tree going right through the inside. The shower is surrounded with glass so it feels like your out in the jungle. There was also a small refridgerator. We enjoyed the large deck that surrounds the cabin and with plenty of seating to sit back and enjoy the view. Remember the bug spray! There were even a few bats that welcomed us in on our eve. The cabins are located on a reserve, so if you have time, take the walk and enjoy the wildlife. The staff were more than helpful with directions and referrals. Our kids enjoyed their rescue dog, Sweetie, who visited during the fabulous breakfast that is included. The only negative thing I could come up with is that it is close to a street, so the morning cars could be heard. All the other ambiance stuff more than covered that up though.

I loved this hotel. If you stay there during the week the music is only until 9:30. And the music is quite good! It was a great value because it included breakfast and was very well-located.

We traveled to CR in June, perfect time in between their summer and the rainy season. We were going to the volcano arenal and saw the ad for tree houses. My wife is quite the adventurer and wanted to check it out. I thought it would be fun so we booked it. Super reasonable.

We have 3 kids, 14, 12 & 8, they loved it!! For kids that live on the beach, they took right to it. You are IN THE JUNGLE! Take the hike to the waterfall, it's beautiful with plenty of critters to look at and fresh fruit to eat.

Above all else, the service was unreal. Rayann, the owner, is great, she's there and accessible with plenty of suggestions for you if you're looking for things to do. You're about 1/2 hr from the town of La Fortuna which is the launch spot to get to the volcano, worth the drive.

We loved it and would definitely go back! It's a very different travel experience so if you're looking for a little change, check it out.

We stayed 3 nights in the TreeHouse. What a unique, fun experience. We traveled with two 16 year old girls - and while it was rather "rustic" for their preferred 5 star tastes, it was an incredible experience. The room was simple, clean, and very private. The upstairs loft where the girls slept was eye level with the bats that slept all day outside on our porch. Now you don't see that at any and every hotel!

The hot water -- and actually the water itself - - left something to be desired, but that made the adventure even more memorable.

The breakfasts were great, the views from the treehouse were fabulous. At the end of the trip, one of our girls said that this was the REAL Costa Rica - and I agree.

There's so much to do in La Fortuna - - and it's easily reached from this hotel. We whitewater rafted, rode horses, zip-lined, hiked around Arenal, saw Arenal erupting one evening, and had a wonderful time.

Renee - thank you for making us feel so welcome and comfortable at your hotel.

I recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a unique experience and doesn't mind spending time in simple, sufficient accommodations with an incredible location!

We enjoyed a three night stay (just the right amount of time for us) and found the treehouses to be simple, clean, and utterly charming. Especially enjoyable were the many windows, comfortable bed, outdoor feel of the shower (but not for those looking for lots of hot water) and sleeping loft for our two children (ages 7 & 10). Most memorable were the sounds at dusk and dawn and the 6 bats outside the front door that shared our lodging. (The bats were night hunters that kept the bug population and hung around quietly during the day).

The staff were great at talking with us about what we wanted to do and then helping us find things that we would like. During our stay they directed us to great small local restaurants, interesting hot springs and relaxing river floats. We loved it and would happily go back. An added bonus was Sweety, the dog, that greeted us and followed us around.

My husband recently came back from a one week vacation in Costa Rica. For the 1st three nights we stayed at the Costa Rica Tree Houses Hotel and loved it. We flew into Liberia airport and rented a car. The drive was about 3 1/2 hours so we did not get in till late. There was a night guard that gave us all the information that we needed. The property is also secure with a gate that we were given an opener for. We were in tree house number one. The room was small but that didn't even matter to us. After all, how much are you really in your room. We did enjoy reading on the porch. The entire experience was so wonderful. We were a little bit outside of the main area of La Fortuna but we had a car so that was fine with us too. The best part was noise and the people. My husband found the noise of the forest to be relaxing and he fell asleep right away. I loved waking up to the birds and all the sounds of the forest. The owners are great! The main area where you check in and eat breakfast is under construction (please do not let this discourage you!) so they had us go next door to a little restuarant for breakfast and they sat and ate with us. They will help you get directions from one place to another, give you restuarant ideas and help you with anything you may need help with. English is their native language so don't worry about a language barrier because there isn't one at all. They also booked a wonderful all day excursion for us prior to us arriving. I do believe that one night at the Tree Houses is too short. You need a couple of days for La Fortuna and you also need a day in San Carlos but remember not to forget to walk the grounds. They are very peaceful. In addition, I have read in other reviews that this was the most expensive hotel that people stayed at. It was the cheapest that we stayed at but one of the best!
