“Extraordinary!!! So much wildlife!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2013

What an amazing place. We (hubby, myself, & our 2 kids -ages 15 &11) had the privilege of calling Sloth our "home" for two nights! As you enter the property you are are greeted by rainforest on both sides of the road up to reception, then you see all the hummingbirds! Lots and lots of hummingbirds! Sloth tree house has a huge tree going right through it and a family of 18 bats that have made the porch their home. It was so fascinating to watch them leave at dusk and return the next morning as the sun started to rise. The kids had a "bats eye" view from the loft! Sloth has amazing view of the rainforest right from the bed! We would open the windows in the morning and just take it all in. During our stay we had 2 toucans right outside the window and many different species of birds would visit the porch, in particular there was a Blue-gray Tanager that would come tap on the window. The property is beautiful with 2 separate hikes, one short and one long one that will take you to the waterfall. When you get there you feel like you've found your own little piece of paradise (it took us about 90 min round trip, going back is uphill so make sure you bring some water!) Along the way we saw our first Strawberry Poison Dart Frog (aka Blue Jean frog), lots of birds, insects, lizards, and beautiful flora. We also had the chance to watch a family of Howler monkeys on the shorter trail! Breakfast each morning was thoughtfully prepared and presented, it was delicious! Mark and Lucy are very helpful, hanging out at breakfast to answer any questions and set up activities if needed. The kids enjoyed Bejuca too! I personally enjoyed taking a shower and being able to listen to the rain through the screened in shower windows! It was so relaxing! Thank you for an experience that we will not soon forget!!!!

Helpful notes: For those that are thinking of doing Proyecto Asis the Tree Houses Hotel is very close, maybe a 10min drive. If you want a great casado try Happy Land in Santa Clara, very reasonable too. The stairs to the tree houses are very steep and really most hotels in CR do not having parking directly in front of your room so pack accordingly. I recommend a large duffle bag with wheels for each person.

Room Tip: Sloth(where we stayed) and Frog are closest to the main road but we didn't notice any road noise...

We had an absolutely amazing time in our Sloth Treehouse! For three days, we hiked around the property (day and night), went swimming in the pool at the waterfall, saw the coolest frogs, birds and other animals, ate the best breakfasts ever (YUM!) and lived with a troop of howler monkeys outside our window (literally…outside our window) :) Early one morning the monkeys decided to jump across our roof…sooo cool! We really felt like we were a part of the jungle!

The room was large and clean, the shower was great and the kids loved sleeping in their loft. I loved having coffee delivered to the door every morning :) Raeann was extremely helpful during our stay (ordered pizza and set up 2 fantastic tours for us) and Mark was incredibly helpful leading up to our stay. We were all sad when we had to move on!

Words cannot describe how special it was for us! It was definitely the highlight of our trip! Thank you!

We stayed in the tree houses in June of 2013 and I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. We stayed in the toucan tree house, which had 2 beds in the loft, and a queen bed on the main floor. The tree house was clean and comfortable, and the coffee waiting for us on the balcony each morning was a huge perk! We spotted monkeys and sloths on the property and enjoyed the hike to the waterfall. The breakfast each morning was authentic and delicious- much better than any included breakfast I have ever had. The owner was working in the office the week we were there and she was great- always available to help us book tours, give us directions, help us order pizza, or point out wild life. I did wear earplugs, as I am a light sleeper, and the bugs/birds were loud at times. We had such a great time here, and would gladly come back in the future!

Staying in a treehouse in Costa Rica just seemed too perfect an opportunity to pass up. And we loved it! You can't have too many expectations -- they are treehouses after all, complete with bugs and not much living space. And we were disappointed that our house was so close to the road so we heard a lot of traffic. But the property is great! The night hike was amazing, and the breakfast was the best we had all trip. The managers are sweet and seem to love what they do. The hotel is a bit far from La Fortuna if you're hoping to pop in and out throughout the day.

Imagine this....you wake up to the sounds of the rainforest all around you, sipping fresh coffee out of the thermos that was delivered to your outdoor deck, as you watch the thick canopy come alive around you - the day begins. Then, down to a wonderful breakfast with fresh local fruit just short walk away amongst the flowers and hummingbirds. Your hike to the volcano is all arranged as is your zipline tour. The Tree Houses were an awesome way to begin and end our adventures each day. Highly recommended for those who want the extraordinary experience.

All the good reviews are true. This was the best "hotel" experience I ever had. Due to availability we were only able to book for one night but we made the most of it. Mark and Lucy were most helpful before the trip and during. They arranged 2 tours for us and were the nicest. Stayed in Yiguirro. It was surreal - a bungalow 20 feet up in the air in the trees. Quiet and in the middle of the jungle. Felt like we were the only ones for miles. Sitting on the porch in the morning we got to see a family of about 6 monkeys wander through the trees right past our treehouse for about 15 minutes. It was perfect. This is a must stay place if you are in the Arenal area.

We just spent several days at the Tree Houses and enjoyed the experience thoroughly. Mark arranged activities and transportation which was reliable and convenient. I'm glad we arranged the activities for the morning since the rains were so strong later in the day. Juan Carlos was an excellent guide and very knowledgeable. Thank you to Reann for her hospitality and patience. Breakfasts were yummy and enough to keep us going through our morning excursions. We stayed in Yiguirro with five people. The room was well kept and it was fun showering while looking out at the forest.
