Location is serene and gorgeous, you are tucked in at the very top of the mountain, with most rooms having a great view of the Volcano Arenal and the rain forest, the rain is absolutely calming, the various colors are amazing. Location is quiet, so if you need quiet, this is it. The property is safe and very kept up, the front desk is approachable, presentable and professional, although there is always one person that may not always be in par as others.
There are 2 restaurants in the property, one which you will eat your complimentary breakfast daily, it's practical, you have a choice to order eggs made to order, the rest s buffet, with a variety of plantains, gallo pinto, toast, fresh fruits and juices. Tte coffee is great, that's because their water is soft and coffee is local. As for lunch and dinner, this hotel has probably the one of the worst menus I've seen , however, most importantly, the food is not very good at all, I became ill twice, once after the burger and last after the fish for dinner. The salads are your best shot. Sadly also the prices are too high, you easily spend about $ 60 to $100 daily, not a good thing! If you plan to be there without a car, you will be paying for a taxi, which can take you to a restaurant at the bottom of the hill, about 2 miles, taxi will cost you about $10.00, if you choose to head to the town, which is abut 7 KM, where the authentic, or also known as "tipico" and tasty real food is, you will pay a flat fee to a taxi of $14 to $16, something that adds up. Service at the restaurant is pleasant, especially Dario and Arturo, however, I got the impression that others weren't, in fact, they often ignore the women and just deal with the man, a little "machista" for my taste, I did not get that. Both lunch and dinner menu's are less than average, it's poorly cooked and very unsettling to the stomach, the fish in particular. The rooms are nice and spacious, however, the in-room jacuzzi, the water change schedule is unknown, so you have no idea when the last time someone even changed it was, when I inquired no one could respond. Beds are soft, not firm at all and we were really disappointed that for our anniversary, we were given 2 queens, which are really full beds, too small. Again, when asked, no response was provided, this was unacceptable considering that our travel agency clearly requested this. The view is gorgeous, you do have a view of the volcano. Maid service is okay, however, I noticed that our bathroom was dirty, specially the shower area, including the towels that are provided were in very poor condition. There are several man made hot springs, they are average, a little dirty for my taste, not alot of control on what a guest can, or cannot take. There is a gift shop in town, prices are about 15% more than what you will see in town, however, they do have descent last minute gifts. Overall the place is tranquil and beautiful, unfortunately for what we paid, we honestly felt that we weren't accommodated, especially with the room and the unpleasant dinner experience.
