This small resort has it all- a friendly staff, great service, beautiful grounds, lovely rooms, comfortable beds, hot springs and great food! I spent a lot of time in the hot pools. Becuase the resort is small there were never crowds or noise. Our stay was relaxing and delightful. Absolutely recommend!!!!

Room Tip: Second floor rooms have an incredible view of the volcano.

The only thing memorable about this place is the view
The decor is tired and gloomy. Bedroom lighting appalling. Lumpy pillows and beds like boards. A nasty smell of chlorine coming from the hot tub in, yes IN the bedroom. Who wants that?
Don't want to be reminded of the food. Virtually impossible to order anything that's not a) over cooked and b) covered in some sort of fruit or cream sauce. Bottled dressings - a square of orange processed cheese in a sandwich. Breakfast a disgrace - Costa Rica is a country that grows everything so why was the choice of fruit so basic? Pineapple rock hard, underripe and served in unappetising chunks. Everything processed - nothing home made. No interesting pastries or breads. Luke warm coffee which we had to ask for twice.
With an explosion of boutique hotels and restaurants in the area this place needs to get a grip. On our return, we will be asking our travel agent why on earth we were sent here and encourage them not to inflict this experience on future customers.

We celebrated Christmas Eve 2013 at the Arenal Kioro. Our suites were top notch with a jacuzzi in the room that looked out on to the volcano. The sliding balcony doors brought beautiful morning breezes into the room - a perfect way to take in the sights and sounds of nature. We were impressed with the linens and towels (no scrimping here). The restaurant was average but the morning fruit display at breakfast was impressive. The greeters made sure to have the waiters at our table within seconds of being seated. We never had to wait for coffee in the mornings. Our only disappointment was the outdoor "heated" thermal pools (they weren't even lukewarm). Not sure if heating is controlled by nature or the staff. Overall - a beautiful property with an incredible staff.

A great spot to have a hotel. It's like camping for people that want all the cool Costa Rican jungle stuff outside but still need the hotel on the inside. In the morning and evenings we would open both the front and back floor to ceiling sliding windows and let the fresh cool mountain air flow through the open floor plan with a view of Arenal that is just imposing in is beauty. I stared at it for hours and could not get enough. The property is meticulously kept with natural beauty everywhere you look. We were in the end condo and the bar and restaurant staff must have been sprinting to bring us stuff. They worked hard to please. The staff even gave us a ride to and from a local restaurant when we could not acquire a cab. Great family activities are nearby also. ATV through the jungle with Augustis the nature tutor, zip lining and horseback riding to a waterfall that looks photoshoped in our all pictures but its not. Top notch. This place is as nice as you can get for the price thats right in the middle of where you want to be in Arenal. Bravo to them. P.S. Get a second or third floor room if possible but they are all nice. P.S.S. At night the stars and fireflies are awesome.

Room Tip: They are all nice but it looks like a second or third floor room would be preferable.

This is a top-notch hotel. As we stepped out of the van, we were greeted and then escorted to the lobby where we were treated to a complimentary drink to enjoy while checking in.

Our room was very nice and well equipped, complete with a two person hot tub and robes. Our room, and most likely all of the rooms, have an awesome view of the Arenal volcano - it's almost as if you could reach out and touch it. The room has air conditioning but we turned it off the entire time we were there and let the outside come in.

The room has a refrigerator loaded with things to purchase, at rather high prices. We stopped at a store in La Fortuna and purchased a bottle of wine at a fraction of the cost.

The outdoor pool was warm and clean. The hot spring pools were warm, not real hot, but still nice especially in the evening.

Dinner at the on-site restaurant was very good. We had stuffed chicken, sea bass, pastas. The included breakfast buffet was a great way to start the day.

Th wi-fi worked well in the room as well as around the pool area.

All of the staff was very nice, pleasant and helpful.

When they ran our bill through on Visa, it was charged in US dollars, so my bank did not charge an exchange rate or international fees. Not all hotels do it that way, but it is nice when they do (assuming you live in the US).

We liked this place and would not hesitate to stay here again if we were in the Arenal volcano area.

Room Tip: Even numbered rooms are on top floor which may provide for the best view of the volcano. Bring your...

There's not enough I can say about how amazing this hotel and their staff is. Nothing but the best. Unfortunately, the restaurant on the resort has bland and often overcooked food, breakfast is almost the exact same thing each day, and of extremely low quality. Lunch is slightly better.

This was the 3rd hotel we stayed in on our recent CR trip. It was also the lowest priced and I recommend it for anyone on a budget. If you aren't The Springs nearby is a higher end option. The grounds and landscaping are truly fantastic at the Kioro though. The pool doesn't compare to the higher end places but the tiered hot springs and hot tubs are great. We also had a 4 person hot tub in our room which I used after dinner every night. It is also the closest hotel to the volcano since it is actually on the volcano. Overall I liked the hotel and would go back especially when my kids get older and I want to put them in separate rooms since the rooms are reasonably priced.
