“Great choice for this area.”
Reviewed August 20, 2009

This hotel was a great place to stay. The location is right in front (or back) of the volcano. While you won't be able to see the lava you may be lucky enough to see the top on a clear morning. The included breakfast was great. There is one computer with free internet use. The pool is an added plus. The regular rooms are sufficient--comfortable beds, A/C, TV, and a well sized bathroom. The cabins, while quaint, aren't much more than the standard rooms. They have a bit more space to spread out, and a mini-fridge. We had more bugs in our cabin that our friends did in the regular room. The cabins' walls have slats that can let in the occasional bug, especially at night when the lights are on inside. Be sure to bring a flashlight. The paths, specifically those leading to the cabins, are pretty dark at night. Overall, a good location, good food, nice staff, and clean rooms. Not directly in La Fortuna, but a comfortable cab ride away. Much nicer than the hotels we saw in La Fortuna.

Clean, spacious rooms (not luxurious but nice); absolutely beautiful and well-maintained grounds. We had a car and so we didn't mind being a little outside of town. Staff is friendly & helpful. My only suggestion for improvement would be to upgrade the mattresses - the beds weren't the most comfortable I've slept in.

My boyfriend and I stayed at La Pradera for three nights. The grounds of the hotel are incredibly beautiful--much beautiful flora right outside the rooms, which attracted lots of colorful birds. The pool and hot tub are just as charming as they are on the website. You can sit in the hot tub and enjoy a view of the volcano.

We stayed in one of the standard rooms. All the rooms have their own porches, which are nice places to relax if it's raining. The rooms are large and well cleaned, although the lighting is not great in the rooms. The rooms also have air conditioning and TVs.

The staff at the front desk were very helpful. Although the rooms don't have safes, you can leave your valuables at a safe at the front desk.

The restaurant at the hotel was fine (and the complimentary breakfasts were good), but not excellent, and probably a little overpriced for what we got.

The biggest drawback of La Pradera is probably its location 2km outside of town. It's just a little too far to be comfortable walking distance, especially if you've spent the day hiking or doing something else tiring. Any tour company will pick you up and drop you off at La Pradera free of charge, but we had to take taxis whenever we wanted to eat somewhere other than the hotel or when we booked the tours in town. The taxi rides are not expensive (about $3 each way), but they can add up if you stay for a while.

Really, my only complaints about this place are very minor. Unlike almost all hotels, 1) they don't have a closet; and 2) they don't have shampoo & conditioner.

For complaint # 1 - Thankfully, we had two beds so when I unpacked some of my stuff, I just put them on the other bed. If you don't unpack your stuff when you travel, this shouldn't be a problem for you.

For complaint # 2 - Thankfully, I packed my own shampoo & conditioner. Make sure to pack your own too, if you're staying here.

I loved everything else about this hotel. It's such an awesome value, it's not far from town, you get a great view of the volcano, the facilities are spotless, the service is excellent, they can arrange all the tours for you, etc. etc. etc.! I'm sure there are more luxurious hotels in the area, like Tabacon, but I was perfectly happy with my stay in Hotel La Pradera.

We stayed in one of the standard rooms for 2 nights. The room was comfortable and clean. Our room's window perfectly framed the volcano. The grounds are beautiful and well-maintained. The pool and the hottub were clean and had a perfect view of the volcano also. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel offers ATV tours, and we heard them starting at about 7:30 AM. However, the sun comes up at 6:00, so we were already waking up. The breakfast was good. We ate lunch one day and it was good, but seemed a bit expensive for what we got.A taxi into town was inexpensive ($2-3). Some reviews I've read mentioned a short walk to town. We didn't try it, but based on the taxi ride, I think it's just beyond a comfortable walking distance, and there aren't sidewalks the whole way.

Hello!!!

This hotel provides free full breakfast every morning with your stay and the breakfast is sooooo good! We loved spending time at the pool which has an amazing view of the Arenal volcano, as a matter of fact we could see the volcano from our room. We really enjoyed our time at the pool area, they close it at 10pm which is pretty convenient since some tours take all day, you still have time to come and relax at the pool.

The pictures you find of hotel la pradera is actually what you will find at your stay there, this hotel is beautiful, the rooms are pretty large and they have pretty big bathrooms. The service is excellent, everybody there was very friendly.

The location is perfect, doesn’t matter where you book your tours, they would come and pick you up at this hotel and take you where you need to go. Every morning the receptionist would call our tour guides and confirm our reservations for the tour eventhough we didn’t book our tours with this hotel.

We highly recommend this place, we loved it and I’m sure you would love it as well.

Luz & Sergio (honeymooners)!!!

I loved the stay at Pradera. There were 8 of us sharing two rooms. it's about a 5 min. taxi ride from the "center" of town. I thought it was a lot better than staying in town next to all the tourist shops. If you're doing tours or activities, they usually come and pick you up at the hotel so that was not a problem for us at all. The AC worked really well, the rooms were clean, the shower at the bathroom was reasonable (I personally prefer strong sprays) and they had free internet at the reception area.
