Arenal Backpackers Resort

I have stayed at a lot of different hostels and this is one of my favorite. It had a swim up bar in the pool, the staff was amazing and helpful and the rooms were super clean.

My sister and I stayed here in November 2011 in a private room. This was perfect for us -- we didn't want to share a room with other people, but wanted to be at a young, social, fun hostel/hotel. Highly recommend staying here if you are a backpacker or 20-something traveler.

Rooms were clean and large, beds were comfy. Bathrooms were modern. Staff were super helpful, and booked multiple tours for us. Food/drinks were cheap and tasty. Loved the social outdoor lobby/bar, where we spent a lot of time. Pool was also nice, and they were fixing it up when we were there, so its probably even nicer now.

One thing to mention is that the Arenal volcano didn't show any lava when we were there... they told us that it has been much less active as of late. It is still worth it to hike around the volcano though, and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Also, highly recommend Sky Trek ziplining!

We stayed here for two nights, 12th and 13th of Januari 2011. The hostel was perfect for us, stayed in a private double room for $35/ night. The guys at the reception desk were friendly, helpful and very good at speaking English. There was plenty of books for exchanging (just ask in the reception). We would also recomand the restaurant, the best burritos on our trip so far! The breakfast was also exellent! Rooms, toilets and showers were clean. Pura vida!

I stayed a couple of nights here. The food was great, the tents/rooms were clean and comfortable, and the pool was a plus. Unfortunately, I returned to find my credit card had been charged double for a couple excursions I booked through them. I asked them for a copy of the receipt to show to my credit company and they simply stopped returning my emails. Good luck to the rest of you.

This selfcalled 5-star hostel is good, with orthopedic mattresses.
The dorm I slept in had 8 beds and evbery dorm has an own bathroom
with hot water.

There is free wi-fi and a pool for free use.
You can also have private rooms or tents - the price for a dormbed was US$14.

You can have breakfast at the restaurant (banana pan-cakes) or having lunch (burgers, typical food) the prices here are between US$4 and US$6.

A nice hostel - mostly due to there pool I would say, which is nice if the weather is hot and sunny. The swimmingpool is also what you pay for, and why it's a little more expensive than other hostels / hotels in the area (we payed 14 USD each in a 6-bed room). Internet was included in the price, but not breakfast. The hostel was nice and clean. The bed is nice and comfy, and I had slept wery well if I wouldn't have had very load people in my room that didn't care of fellow travelers that was sleeping. If you want a swimmingpool and are not on a very low budget, it's okey. If its raining or you just wanna stay cheaper, go somewhere else. We thought it was a little bit pricey, and stayed in another hostel later on in the area for only 6 USD each instead, but without swimmingpool of course.

We stayed 2 nights in La Fortuna at this resort. We were very satisfied, both of us having backpacked quite a lot before! The pool (and pool bar) and the set up and layout of the place really reminds you of a carribean resort. They had no double rooms available for us when we showed up, but we had heard about the tents (luxury camping really) and decided to try it. The tent area is completely covered, so even if it rains, it doesn't rain on you. The tents are all mounted on platforms, recent and fairly big, and have 2 or 3 single mattresses with sheets and pilows. The only downfall is that you have to use the lockers to keep your bags. Our first night was a sunday night and the music was loud in the lobby and past their own curefew, but it wasn't so bad. Gets really hot since there's no AC. But overall, it was a fun and relatively comfortable experience. The shared bathrooms and showers were more than sufficient for the capacity of the hotel as we rarely saw anyone else using them, so no waiting there. And the showers were real clean. Overall, great value!
