This hotel deserves a higher rating than what we saw upon booking. We stayed 5 nights at the hotel and it was definitely an unexpected treat!

The grounds are beautiful with trails, lush gardens, and amazing views of the volcano.

Our room was spacious and inviting, but cozy and relaxing at the same time.

The front welcome area became one of our favorite place to just hang out. You can sit and enjoy the beautiful weather and nice breezes. A very calming experience.

The location of the hotel was pretty central to all of our activities, about 20-30 minutes travel. However, if you plan to see Rio Celeste (and you should!), then plan for about a 2hr trip each way. Definitely worth it!

The restaurant is another great surprise. All of our meals were completely amazing. We ate most all our meals here and were completely happy each time.

The staff here is extremely friendly and helpful. Any questions were answered quickly and everyone seemed happy to help. We met several people at the beginning of our trip that we were sad to say goodbye to! Thank you Carlos, Daniel, and Hansel! :)

The staff at this hotel go well beyond to ensure your stay and entire trip is as you desire. Every time we asked for help with a tour, directions etc. the front desk staff solved any issue immediately without hesitation. The rooms are nice and size was a appropriate for two adults and a child. The resort is very large so be prepared for a 15 – 20 minute walk to the reception if you have children. There are several pools on the resort, with our favourite being fed by hot springs from the Arenal volcano. The restaurant food was quite good and the service is outstanding. There is very little within walking distance if you are looking for restaurant options, and you will need to either drive or take a taxi into La Fortuna for a wider variety of food.
One of the main highlights of this location are the grounds. They have converted all available space into gardens typical for the area. The colours of the flowers and birds that reside inside this resort are a photographers dream. We would stay at the Volcano Lodge again.

This was by far the nicest place we stayed on our 10-day tour of Costa Rica. I'm not sure why it was awarded 3+ stars, since it was much better than the 4-star places we stayed. The Reception building is located just off of the main road through the Arenal area. It is open-air and includes the front desk, a large fountain/fish tank, and a bar with a pool table. Very nice! The rooms are located in one-story duplex cottages spread out over many carefully landscaped acres. Each room has a porch with rocking chairs and tropical or volcano views. We had two comfortable queen sized beds, a good air-conditioner, safe, and a nice bathroom. An ice machine was nearby.
Near Reception is a hot-water swimming pool, kids pool, and a cool-water Jacuzzi. Deeper into the property is a second pool with cooler water, and a large hot Jacuzzi. That pool has a swim-up bar, and is next to the restaurant. Breakfast was served buffet-style each morning and was good. The only thing I missed was bacon, but I had a great ham and cheese omelet instead. Staying here reminded me of being on Kauai. Loved it!
Note: A "natural hot springs" type of pool is currently under construction as well. Also, for people with mobility issues, employees on golf carts were carrying people and luggage around the property.
One afternoon we had a late lunch here. I ordered a Chicken Panini sandwich. It was HUGE, and the best one I've ever had. The flavor was outstanding! About $10, with fries. Highly recommended!
If I return to this area, I will definitely stay here again!

Location is good, just outside the park. Nice hotel just like As garden.love the small trails inside hotel. Front desk greeting with cocktail. Very good buffet breakfast. Wake up you see the volcano right in front of you. Listening to the bird singing. A lot of flowers trees in side the resort. Very nice. Highly recommended

good size room with 2 queen beds. very comfortable bed and pillows. large clean shower. hot water. good towels. safe in closet. i had garden view, but some rooms have view of arenal volcano.
the grounds are very pretty with lots of tropical flowers of numerous variety. 2 nice pools. good breakfast of the usual eggs and meat and sides, and very tasty fresh tropical fruits. we were hit with a large influx of college students so the 1 man omelet / waffle station was overwhelmed, and i skipped. but its next to pool with a view of volcano.
i don't sleep much and when i am tired noise doesn't bother me much, but the noise insulation was not great as i could hear party animals few rooms away!
there is a nice bar but sadly it was quite deserted on my trip. even thought there were at least 50 guests on premises.
i don't know the value / price since it was booked by a tour package.

about the area... i don't think the volcano has been active for a few years, so i doubt that you will see any lava flow / glow at night. i didn't. there is 2 mile easy hike to the volcano and a view of the man made lake is not bad.
i ate one night at Restaurante Arenal Koita which has a nice tropical outdoor setting. salad was good. pumpkin soup was just ok. tilapia fish was good.
i also visited the Eco Termales hot springs and ate dinner there. it is in a nice tropical setting. the pool is nicely designed and you can have drinks from the bar and pay when you leave. but the water is only warm, not hot like the springs in colorado USA, and has no mineral smell. there is also Tobacon hot springs which i did not visit. the eating area was nice. we had buffet style food which was not bad. nothing fancy.
free wifi worked in room as well as in the vicinity of rooms and pool.

Room Tip: some rooms have garden view and some have volcano view. if you like volcano view ask for it.
