“Loved it - particularly the gardens and birds”
Reviewed October 20, 2012

Everyone says the right things, but I wanted to call particular attention to the gardens - its not just the Volcano Lodge... its the Volcano Lodge and Gardens! They are spectacular. If you get up early for a tour or the like, you will see hundreds of birds - especially hummingbirds - plus countless varieties of blooming plants. Most rooms (like ours') have spectacular views of the Volcano (which was venting near the top when we visited) and we saw it many times unobstructed despite it being part of the rainy season. The restaurant is very good - we had a terrific dinner there and our breakfasts. Also, when our tour arrived too early to sit-down and have breakfast, the staff offered to bag a breakfast for us (fruit and hot sandwiches) gratis. Very nice. Front desk staff is super nice too. Cannot believe we got rooms for $50/nt including taxes and breakfast for two - ridiculously good deal. PURA VIDA!

Very comfortable rooms with a/c, coffee maker, tv. Volcano looms right outside and gardens are superior. Food was the best we had in Costa Rica. The traditional meal of rice, beans, salad, fish or chicken, plantains, potatoes, and fruits was $10.00. Breakfast was more than enough and happy hour beer was 2 for $4.00. Internet available in lobby, helpful staff spoke good English.
Foe three women traveling alone it was perfect.

Room Tip: Room 8 had a perfect view of the volcano.

We have stayed at Volcano Lodge two times this year. May & July. The location is excellent for all the activities at Arenal & La Fortuna. Each room has a patio with two rocking chairs and a superb view of Arenal Volcano. We use the hotel for all our medium and budget priced vacation packages that includes breakfast that is buffet style and very good. The gardens around the hotel are beautiful and is a great opportunity to take flower photos. The pool and spa area is large, clean and well kept and they have another by the reception. It is an excellent place to kick back and work a little on the free wi fi by the pool & jacuzzi. We got tired of working and enjoyed a massage right there. They have an excellent dinner menu and you may pre pay, $12, $14 or $16. I have tried all price ranges and it's good food and a good value.

Room Tip: The newer rooms are near the inside restaurant at the pool and spa area farthest from reception.

If you're looking for a small authentic costa rica casa, this is definitiv the wrong place. BUT the whole place anyway isn't authentic and seems to be made for tourist it doesn't matter to stay in a big lodge. The rooms have a nice view on the vulcano (as long as it isnt cloudy), the restaurant is expensive but great and tha massages were amazing! We made the horse ride at zhe vulcano, organised at the hotel and this was a great experience (it was just the two of us with a guide)!

Hotel was beautiful with great landscaping, pool and food. View of Volcano is awesome. Food is very tasty and even the pizza was good. Rooms are clean and service was very good. Only negative is that it is not close to town. You must take a taxi if you want to go.

The hotel is set in a perfect location overlooking lake Arenal with mountains and the volcanos in the background! There are plenty of activities available like nature walks, wind surfing, kayaking, horseback riding, waterfall guides and lots more! The place has a perfect match of earth tones with bright vibrant colors! It's focus is on Hospitality "Pura Vida" and Keeping the environment in mind at the same time! Efficiency is very important and the Hotel owner JP will give you great conversation that will intrigue and amaze you guaranteed! They also brew their own beer and most of the food is grown in the farm on site! I loved this place when i stayed there! I hope you Enjoy it as well!

Room Tip: Get a Lake view!

This was such a nice place. We particularly enjoyed walking around the grounds or sitting on the small porch off our room and watching the humming birds. Unfortunately, the volcano was covered with clouds the entire time we were there. But the room was pretty large, everything was clean and the shower was nice.
