Owner description: Nestled in the heart of the tropical rainforest at the base of the majestic Arenal Volcano in the northern Region of Costa Rica. This five-star resort offers a unique blend of nature, adventure and relaxation. The resort's unique healing thermal mineral spring river emerges from the volcanic earth, cascading to form waterfalls, streams, tranquil pools and ponds surrounded by lush tropical gardens.

We just returned from La Fortuna and loved visiting Tabacon Hot Springs. The place is incredible! We swam in the hot rivers and pools before eating a fabulous buffet dinner. We thought the whole operation was exceptional! This is a must when visiting the Arenal Volcano area of Costa Rica/

I stayed at Tabacon Resort this past {month}. I was so impressed by how detail and service-oriented the staff there are. If you request anything, they work on it immediately. If you have a question, they get an answer right away. The front desk people were always friendly and helpful. They seemed to remember every guest, and were great with follow-up.

My favorite thing about Tabacon, other than the hot springs, was the breakfast buffet. They serve fresh, fabulous tropical fruit from Costa Rica, local dishes, and a great assortment of all sorts of other breakfast items. It is the most important meal of the day, and at Tabacon it is the best!

We visited both Tabacon hot springs and Eco Termales hot springs and were very disappointed in Tabacon. It was very expensive and the food was buffet and nothing great. At Eco Termales we had a quiet candle lit table with a server and the chicken was amazing. We had a couple of drinks there and enjoyed how it was more of a solitude atmosphere and so much more relaxing than Tabacon. Save your money and don't bother with Tabacon.

We had a great time at Tabacon. We came after 4pm to keep our costs down, but it was still rather pricey. The facilities were great and the grounds very beautiful. We enjoyed exploring around and going into the different pools. We really loved the little waterfall with the bench behind it. We had a couple of cocktails at the bar which were good. All in all, it was expensive, but still worth it for us.

This is the pre-eminent hot springs in the Arenal area of Costa Rica. The spa is beautiful, and if you love spending lots of money, you will enjoy top service. The pools are very nice. One thing Tabacon has which many others don't is a river flowing through the springs with waterfalls. But there are lots of rocks in the river and it's really not conducive to sitting and enjoying the water. There is a shortage of lounge chairs to relax in. The price is rediculous. As one person at a hotel told us: It's the same water everywhere. Yes, the place is pretty. But there are others in the area just as pretty. We expected a really special dinner buffet for the price paid. It was good - but no better than food I've had at local restaurants. You can get dramatically cheaper tickets for springs and dinner in La Fortuna - for example, springs, dinner, and a massage (in town) for $55. Unless you have lots of money to spend and like the reputation of Tabacon, don't do it. Or just go for the evening. It's a lot cheaper. Unless you're doing lots of spa treatments, a couple hours should be more than enough to spend in the pools.
