Lomas is off the main road by about a mile. When we arrived Roberto checked us in and he was very friendly, helpful and great to talk to throughout our stay. The property isn't done justice by the photo's i have seen. It has beautiful gardens, has one of the best views of the volcano (if not the best), and the cabins we got were really nice and if you can get the upper cabins they have the best views! Restaurant had a good breakfast, and dinner was good. Service is good. In the bar it was a little hit and miss on the bartenders, some really nice, some indifferent. It is close to town, and also close to the sites of the area. Don't miss going to the Tabacan hot springs. It is right beside a resort and it is a hot flowing river. The designer deserves a medal for the design. I have never seen a hot tub that is a river and still natural.

The hotel sits right under the volcano, on the green side (not the lava side), so the view from our room as we opened the rear balcony / terrace door was of the last cloud clearing to reveal the summit - impressive! Our room was a very spacious and comfortable hardwood cabin - very nice but not sure where they got the hardwood from, though I have an idea. The hotel had its own trails but only 450 metres open, since they had not been cleared for a while. The garden was pleasantly laid out and has resident great curassows and several other bird visitors. Fair sized but shallow swimming pool. The bar is small but has a great view of Arenal, as have the outermost tables in the restaurant. The restaurant menu is blandishments and not very exciting nor cheap, but fair enough. The hotel is not far town or from the thermal baths but has a very long drive (a mile disguised by 1km sign) - long enough to merit a taxi. We did walk back from town one day but it was not worth it for most people. It also makes the restaurant an easy cop-out option :0) Finally, service was friendly and usually efficient. We liked it.

This place was more than could be expected! Must thank Cindy Peck with Costa Rican Vacations for finding this gem! From the moment we arrived until we left everyone was helpful and so nice! Loved waking up to the birds every morning! They coordinated adventures and taxis for us at the front desk! So wonderful! Jonathan and Jozy at the front desk were beyond helpful! Jorge and Andres at the bar and restaurant were wonderful!
