Just spent 2 nights here as part of 10 night Costa Rica trip.Unfortunately, it poured most of the time.Despite this, we had a good time and decided to soak in the hot springs.Fab!Very relaxing after some busy days in Monteverde and Tortuguera. About 5 smaller pools like the flintstones, set out on a path going uphill, then a large pool with a slide at the bottom which was hotter than a bath! This had a pool bar-beer at $3 and cocktails at $7 which seems par for the course. Also 2 smaller ordinary water pools with slides-great fun for the kids or adults.Lovely restaurant, open to the elements but not cold.Breakfasts very good -freshly made eggs anyway you want and pancakes, plus fresh fruit. cereal, cold meat.cheese etc..Some rooms are quite a distance if you don't have a car-we didn't, but when it was pouring, we phoned for the minibus to fetch and take us back and this was no problem. The lunch prices in restaurant were particularly reasonable. Rooms large and clean but when it was busy we could hear a fair bit of sound from the adjacent/underneath rooms. Not a problem the first night because it was not a weekend. There is a 2km walk from the hotel to a viewpoint-we tried, but it came to rain and we saw nothing, but we did hear the volcano!

We stayed here for two days with visitors with kids. Unfortunately, we were fogged in so we never saw the volcano. The grounds were lovely, the kids loved all the action, the pools, the slides, the zipline, the crocs, the ants, etc. The parents were a little less impressed. Rooms were huge, but not that comfy. No service that I can say. We were dropped off at our room and that was it. The food was ok, but very pricey as was the pool bar. The hot springs were great however. Stay here when you want to keep the kids busy.

The grounds - the location, pool, restaurant, hot springs and wet bar were great! However, our room was huge but there was bugs everywhere and we must have had a room right over the sewer because the stench coming up from the toilet was disgusting! We were only staying for one night so it wasnt worth it to complain it was bad! They also have a strict towel policy - if you arent able to hand in your towel, you owe $10 each - regardless of what happens. In a place where there are so many towels just thrown about, its very easy to have a stolen towel...it happened to us.

I am recommending it because i think that we just got unlucky iwth a room...but its better to spend all your time outside of the room.

We stayed two nights in December. We stayed based on advise from this website. A great place to stay with kids and teenagers. The rooms were clean but not fancy. The breakfast was excellent and with a lot of variety. After a long day sightseeing it was perfect to come back to the hotel and jump in the pools and hot springs. The kids had a good time on the slides. We didn't really have the time or want to spend the money to go to the fancy hot springs. this was perfect. My nephews really enjoyed all the free exhibits such as the crocodiles, butterflies, and ant farm.

We stayed at Los Lagos after spending a week on the coast at a family wedding. Although it rained very hard as we drove around Lake Arenal, Los Lagos was like an oasis of calm.
8 of us travelled and we had two rooms which were delightful. It was high above the main hotel building and restaurant with a lovely view of the valley below, which we appreciated much better after dark.
The restaurant was delightful and the staff made the children very much at home, after a long day in the vehicle.
Service was relaxed and friendly and the food was excellent.
Relaxing in the hot pools was the perfect end to a long days travel. I guess the relative remoteness of Los Lagos is part of its charm, but the drive is a little difficult for those unused to narrow twisting roads.
I notice that some reviewers have given the hotel a less than positive review. My wife and I have travelled to many parts of the world, and cannot understand what else one would look for in a hotel, bearing in mind that this is a hotel in the tropics and away from the city.

This hotel is almost an all inclusive, except off course for the meals...

The best thing this hotel has is the stoning view of the Arenal Volcano. It has beautiful hot springs with a wet bar, great regular pools with fun water slides, crocodile farm, butterfly garden, small frogs exhibition, beautiful gardens, and natural surroundings. Even though the ambiance is very relaxing, the wet bar always had nice music, and nice environment to be around.

The breakfast is included, and is great. The rooms are dispersed and you might have to take a walk each time you go in and out of your room, but they offer a shuttle bus, which anyway, is always around.

The hotel has an observatory which provides a good view of the non-active part of the volcano. They have a tours agency at the front desk, and the staff there was very friendly, informative, and oriented us very well. We took the hicking tour to the volcano (the active side) and the tour and the guide were great.

Pura Vida!!

I stayed at Los Lagos for only a few days and it was wonderful! The drive out there was a bit of a hike but definitely well worth it! As soon as my boyfriend and I got there we did the Horseback riding tour they offered and views we saw were awesome. The ride is a big much if you are a beginner, so be careful. The food in the hotel was very expensive ($11.00 for a ham and chesse 6in sandwich), lucky for us we rented a car and went to eat outside the hotel. The best part of the hotel were the Hot Springs. They were beautiful and very refreshing. The water slides were fun and the standard rooms are great. The Spa was great, we both got massages and enjoyed it very much! The hotel decoration outdoors is what makes it a gem, it truly looks like rainforest paradise.
