We spent two days here on the 9th &10th of Feb. and I have to say this was a great place. Our room was the last one up the hill on the left which was a hike. Fortunately we had a car but the hotel shuttle looked like a great option and it was up and down every couple of minutes. Our room was so so, it was clean and had an open air porch with a small view. We awoke bothe mornings to howler monkeys, roosters and doves that all seemed to start making lots of noise at 5:30 AM. No sleeping in in Costa Rica! The grounds of the entire hotel are spectacular and they even have a walk through nature path / zoo complete with a butterfly enclosure, crocs, frogs and tropical fish. tThe walkway up and down the hot spring pools was lighted and a pleasure to stroll through. The warm pool has a wet bar and water slides which we spent time at in the evenings. All drinks were great except the margaritas which they could not seem to get right. We sent it back and ordered the other drinks. Breakfast and dinners were in an open air patio and the service was outstanding. Our waiter, Alexandra was well versed in customer service. The amazing thing was he was our waiter in the evenings as well as at 6 a.m. breakfast. He always was working. Even though tips are included in the pricing we gave this guy a $20.00 bill on the side which by the way is a grand amount by their standards.
One point I should mention, the biting insects are brutal. Biting black flys and no see ums would actualy draw blood. I recomend bringing and using bug repellant in this area. By the end of my Costa Rican trip I looked like a chicken pox patient.
From this resort we went to Sky Trek which is the best Zip line there with a tram ride to the top above the canopy.
The Volcano cleared on the day of our zip line and was a spectacular sight. The volcano was active with smoke and lava rock rolling down.
As was said in another review, the lava action was not seen from this hotel it is now on the back side which they dont tell you. However a short ride down the road at night and if it is clear you will enjoy the volcano view.
In conclusion, our room was not so good but everything else was an A+.
Have fun here and dont forget the bug spray!

The staff at this hotel is rude- the resturant staff and the guards are wonderful..but forget getting towels/ or coffee for the coffee maker in the room. I have never been to a hotel that gives a coffee maker/ but charges for the coffe- ? We had to beg for a towel for the 3rd person in the room/ even though the room slept 4 persons. The pool is great- The volcano is best seen from another hotel/ as no one tells you the lava now is on the other side and you will not see it at this hotel any longer. I recommend you do your homework and stay where you can see the volcano if it is not raining or too foggy.

Just got back from 8 days in Costa Rica, as usual it is awsome. Our trip began with two days @Los Lagos, I booked this based on feedback from Tripadvisor.
First off the front desk was fine you are in costa rica not beverly hills relax. The front desk spoke english and were helpful when I needed assistance, the reception is pretty basic but the property was great.
My kids loved the heated pool with waterslide and swim up bar, it might take a little longer to get a drink then some places but the drinks were well made and resonable. The unheated pool had a killer waterslide which at one point goes under ground you have to be a older kid to use it (probably about 250 yards long with curves built into the slop of the hill) the thermal pools above this waterslide enterance are really nice and never busy (I don't think alot of people know about them since there isn't any literature on the place from the office).
The free breakfast was very good, overall the food was ok when we got kids stuff or a app. My wife used the spa onsite I think she got two hours worth of treatments for $105.00 facial/massage/etc
she enjoyed it. On the property there is a small canopy tour which I took my 11 year old on it was a good starter and she enjoyed it.
The room was clean (we had the upgraded room up the hill) and the view was great. We had a car but the shuttle service was outstanding when we used it.
This is a great place to take your kids, I went and had lunch at the new Springs resort it is a little 4 seasonish for costa rica and all by itself way up a hill...
Price location and property makes this place a real winner...

The property was beautiful and the superior room we stayed in was huge! However, the staff was pretty unfriendly and uncooperative, with the exception of the shuttle drivers who were great. The food in the restaurant and the wetbar area was terrible and overpriced. The morning breakfast buffet was free and nice but again, the staff in the restaurant were kind of indifferent and in no real rush to help.

We spent two nights at Los Lagos. Our room was in a duplex cottage with a partially enclosed front porch sitting area. We had a good view of the "green" face of Arenal valcano from the porch. The bathroom could use an update, but overall the room was clean and well maintained. We were about halfway up the slope on which the hotel is situated. It was a bit of a hike to the restaurant; if we were any higher we might have used the free shuttle service. The comples of hot and cold pools that cascade down the hill are impressive as are the extensively planted grounds. We found the staff to be accomodating and freindly, particularly the wait staff at the restaurant. The food was very good to excellent and a good value.

My boyfriend and I stayed there for 3 nights and it was ok. What was most dissapoitning was the unfriendly staff at reception. They were not rude, but I never saw a smile in their faces and their conversation seemed to be more important, then attending guests.

We stayed in a superior room, which was huge. You could have had a party in there!!! The bathroom was in need of a litle bit maintenance.

Loved the exotic garden, with the crocs and the butterflies. Sadly the weather was not our friend and we could hardly see the Arenal volcano, altough it was right at our doorstep.

Friendly staff at the Restaurant (except for the "Ommelete lady)" and nice breakfast. We had one lunch there, in was nothing exciting.

We did not book any of the tours (Caño negro, Walk to the volcano, etc...) in the hotel, you can get them cheeper in an agency in la Fortuna.

I took a group of college students to Costa Rica for a language program and on one of our free weekends, we visited the Arenal area and stayed at Los Lagos. The check-in was a long and over-complicated process, but once we were settled in the rooms we all loved the resort.

First of all the grounds are very extensive with lots of great places to hike and explore. We saw a lot of Tucans, which was fun for us gringos. There is also an amazing array of interconnected pools and hot tubs with slides, bridges and fountains. It is almost like walking through a dreamscape.

The rooms are nothing special, but are spacious and clean and all have porches so you can sit outside and enjoy the landscape, which is what you came for anyway.

One night we visited Baldí hot springs, just down the road. We all loved it. I had previously visited the famous Tabacón hot springs, but liked Baldí just was well -- maybe even better since it was not as crowded.

Breakfast is included at Los Lagos and is a buffet. You can eat out on the covered porch by a stream and enjoy the lush greenery around you.

The most unusual part of Los Lagos is the little crocodile zoo, ant display and small butterfly garden. Unusual but fun and exotic.

All in all, I had a very pleasant stay at Los Lagos and would recommend it to most people. You should be aware that you have to keep track of your towel and towel cards they give you when you check in. Otherwise they charge you $10/per.
