“A great experience--we would go back in a heartbeat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2014

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in Jan 2014 in a superior standard room ( #228 actually). The service we received was absolutely first class, and we had a difficult experience 9 of my making!) which really tested the hotel's management and all the staff.
I stayed too long in the hot pool --far too long -- and despite not drinking any alcohol i had a hypotensive episode that made me pass out when I got out of the hot pool.!! the hotel staff were on top of the situation at once and an ambulance arrived within minutes! The emergency physician attending with the ambulance ( Dr G Rivera)was an extremely competent young physician, and had me appropriately assessed within minutes of getting there ( including an ECG cutaneous monitoring etc).As a retired pathologist , I was extremely impressed by the efficiency and smooth operation of the attending ambulance staff and Dr Rivera, which rivalled any that i could expect to receive anywhere else in the world. I was assessed and stabilized and I did not need to go to hospital . The hotel management were extremely attentive , both at the time of the incident and afterwards -- and we were treated like valued members of the family , with great courtesy , and genuinely interested enquiries after my progress etc. The Hotel manager at the time of the incident, Mr Luis Ramirez, could not have been more attentive -- and whenever we saw him , asked if he could help, and did help us get in touch with our travel agent.Luis ramirez had been advised to make sure that i had ample fluids and fruit --and a large basket of fresh fruit arrived unasked for on our doorstep that evening!
Leaving aside our experience, for a moment , the hotel has a superb setting , great gardens, excellent rooms, efficient and prompt shuttle services to and from the Main Reception area and the rooms, numerous small gardens that cater to butterfly lovers, naturalists etc and a superb view of the Arenal volcano --when it is not covered in cloud! The restaurant has a good selection of very edible meals, served with quiet style. There is in fact a very positive sense of pride in the establishment , that appears to be shared by all the staff.
How much did my experience cost me ? Nothing-- the hotel accepted the cost , even though it was my poor judgement that caused the problem.
I was well enough managed to be able to go "zip -lining" and tarzan jumping in the monteverde area later on the same trip.

We really enjoyed the hot spring pools. The waterslides were a pleasant surprise. I started off going down a waterslide into one of the hot pools. We did the long waterslide into the cool water pool and it was thrilling! Several hot water pools to choose from. One had a swim up bar, couple of them had waterslides and some had private water cabanas. There are towels and lockers available for rent. Clean changing room with showers. A great way to end an adventurous day in Costa Rica.

We stayed at Los Lagos on Feb 10, 2014. My husband, girls age 5 and 8, and I all thought it was the best waterpark we have ever been to. We all had a blast on the slides.( be careful the one on the far right of the pool sounds dangerous) The lush foliage, volcano views, and scenery made it special. I loved sitting in hot water while the tropical rain fell all over me and I sipped a cocktail. The swim up bar is happening at night. Just be careful, there are no lifeguards, people are drinking, the slides are crazy fast, and the pool is dark at night. The rooms are adequate, nothing special. Breakfast was a huge buffet. The staff was nice.

Stayed here for two nights on an OAT trip. Our room was clean and quite large. However if you have difficulty walking, the room was up a pretty steep hill. There are numerous pools. Some that are quite warm. Also many slides to enjoy the pools. If you are looking for this kind or entertainment then this is the place fro you. We were more interested in the natural beauty of Costa Rica and the many unique activities. This is a good location though for exploring Arenal Volcanic Mountain.

When we arrived early, the staff was kind enough to allow us to store gear in an unsecured utility room. The room itself was very nice: spacious, clean, with typical amenities - nothing too fancy. The bathroom window was broken, and did not close properly.

The grounds feature several heated pools (although three were out of commission at the time), and a few small attractions. Again, nothing too fancy, but a decent enough way to spend an hour. The grounds of the resort are beautiful. We took a walk up to the observation point to try to catch Arenal Volcano without her misty top. It was a nice walk - second best thing about the resort!

The best thing was the restaurant - we had the complimentary breakfasts and paid for dinner - both times, the food was excellent and reasonably priced.

Front desk was very accommodating, considering we came in hours earlier than check-in time. Also called a taxi for us, and answered questions while we were there. All in all, service was great - the place needed a little bit of upgrading, though.

The resort is on a hill so be prepared to walk a lot. There are a lot of swimming pools and water slides here. Also nice thermal pools. So bring a swimsuit. If you are lucky enough to be there on a clear day, there is an awesome view of Mt. Arenal. The breakfast buffet was the largest we had on this trip; it included fruit smoothies, pancakes, pastries, fresh tamales as well as the fruits and gallo pinto. A gift shop, butterfly and crocodile areas, trails.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights and had an absolute blast! The resort has awesome pools and hot springs with something for everyone. The slides are in perfect condition and we really made good use of them. The people here are very helpful and the front desk staff helps a lot in helping you to make bookings for different excursions. They have computers available in the lobby but no wifi, which is probably the only negative I found. We had our own car so had no problem getting around - I can imagine if we didn't have a car it would be difficult to wait for the shuttle each time. Breakfast in the morning is included and features a nice buffet with authentic food. The crocodile and butterfly areas were nice and there are a lot of picturesque spots that my wife and I took advantage of. We would definitely stay here again!
