“Nicest hotel property I've ever stayed at”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013

Incredibly relaxing place, 3 swimming pools, 4 springs, waterfalls, excellent views of the volcano, private overlook 2.5k hike away.

In La Fortuna, you either stay in town and get transportation to the waterfall / cerro chato / hot springs or you stay at a resort that is out of town and get transportation to the waterfall / cerro chato, but have hot springs on the property. I'd go for option 2 if it's in budget. Otherwise you're doing day passes and paying for cabs, or skipping the hot springs (not advisable).

The property is amazingly nice, and clean and you walk in and are like..Woah. This is amazing. Fish tanks with fish everywhere. Guarded property. The pools are great - the pool that walks up to the bar is heated (OMG). Everything looks so pretty. There's private places to hang out.

The restaurant on the property is a little pricey and just...decent, but you're not here for the food. The rooms are nice enough. Not the greatest beds, but there are flatscreen TVs. Wifi is only in the restaurant, lobby or bar, which is enough, even for an internet junkie like me

It's great for:
Families with kids - waterslides, pool side hanging out
Groups of people travelling together - girls trip, bachelorette party
Couples - very romantic hot springs
Solo travellers who are looking for peace and to get a relaxing vacation away from it all

Room Tip: Stay close to reception - the property is large and you don't want to have to hike up a hill if...

The location was wonderful and the rooms were huge! There was a front door and a back door, both with patios and both with incredible views; in the morning I could have coffee on the back patio and watch the sun come up and then go around to the front and have a picture perfect view of the volcano. Breakfast was included and it was excellent with something for everyone. The staff was very helpful and the pools were a definite way to relax before retiring for the night. Because the grounds were so spread out, the only way to get around was by shuttle and that worked for me because I was not in a hurry to get anywhere. I would definitely stay there again.

This is a great place for travelers with kids. 11 pools, 5 of them heated with water slides. Swim up bar for adults. Butterfly garden, alligator enclosure, great zip line, frog garden, monkeys in the trees. 2 restaurants.

Great experience. Restaurant a little pricy.

Room Tip: Cottages all over the place

The hotel was clean and the rooms were very nice. I really enjoyed the ant and butterfly farms. And the views are amazing. We don't usually stay in resorts, so the grounds seemed a little like a mini golf course to us. But the pools and hot springs are great and kid friendly. The staff at the ant farm were very knowledgeable and friendly as were the staff at the bar and restaurant. Unfortunately, the staff at the front desk were rude every single time we went there. I had hoped they'd be a little more friendly for what we were paying per night.

We stayed 2 nights at Los Lagos. This was a big hit for my 11 year old grandson who LOVED the water slides.
Our room was at the top of the hill so we had to drive down to the pools (or there was transportation). Our room was very spacious and clean. No Wi-Fi except in common areas. Reported a problem with our shower door which was promptly fixed. The room had 2 doors, each with its own porch to look at Arenal or the valley. We had the pleasure of actually seeing the top of Arenal our first morning. Waking early is best to hear the Howlers in the distance and birds beginning their days.
Breakfast (included in the room rate) was a buffet with a great assortment that gave my 11 year old grandson some choice.
Over all a very good value, but this hotel is large and you will not get the Costa Rican experience.

We were booked in this resort hotel for a night by our guide on an overnight experience. Hotel is a bit of a nisnomer as there are separate building a walking distance from the check in. That said I like exercise so that did not bother me. I found the rooms were quite adequate although by no means plush, they were clean and comfortable. The pools were very relaxing and the food was agreeable. I would think this hotel would be used as a base for a two or three day soujourn. The sites from the rooms are fantastic and the air is clean and pure, --- Pura Vida

We loved staying here. Amazing views. Away from the very touristy La Fortuna. You need to take shuttles from the facilities to your room. Plan ahead or you do a lot of walking. Tours set up by the Lodge are pricey and not the best places to visit. Venture out with others (Sky Trek, Pure Trek, Wave Expeditions...). They will pick you up with no hassles. Wifi in rooms would be nice. Despite this, highly recommend.

Room Tip: Close to the lobby means no shuttles and quick to pools, hot springs and restaurant.
