Just minutes outside La Fortuna, the hot springs river is easy to find. A short hike around the gate leads you to the hot springs river where a warm soak was inviting. The temperature was like a hot tube and was perfect on an overcast day. We left when it started to rain afraid the water level may rise too high but it stopped once we got to the car.

We did an afternoon at one of the hot springs resorts and it was nice. After a long day, however, we decided to check this out. It is a really cool place and very unique. How many other places in the world have hot flowing rivers? The water temp was great. An assortment of people were there from families to young travelers to locals. If you have children, however, I recommend caution. From where we followed the path, you must go under a bridge to get to the less fast flowing part of the river. The water is extremely shallow but can move swiftly. Then once under the bridge, you have to navigate over some rocks or a waterfall- not diificult for older kids or adults but a caution to families with smaller children. This upper portion is definitely better for the kids than the lower portion.

We stopped by the side of the road, climbed down and soaked. We weren't excited to have to pay for a soak in the springs so we were happy to have the experience without the cost.

Easy drive from Fortuna. Exactly as described on Trip Advisor. A flowing river of hot water! Quite impressive. And, incredibly in Costa Rica, free. Please take a break from overpaying on hotels and attractions and favor this place! We did give the parking guy 1000 colones. We stayed 3 hours basking in the hot water which was flowing strongly today. Note that you must be very able bodied to walk on the rocks in the river. Also, things will get wet: take the minimum with you and have it wrapped in ziplock bags.

We heard a lot about the various hot springs in the area but the prices were very steep-out of our budget. The free springs were relaxing and therapeutic. Beautiful scenery-just make sure you have water shoes or something similar!
