“4 in 1 Tour”

Loved it!! We did the hanging bridges, waterfall, volcano and hot springs tour. Edwin was an excellent, cordial, and knowledgable tour guide. We would have missed seeing animals that are well camouflaged in the forest if he wasn't there to point them out.

“Pura Vida!”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

I recently took a trip to Cost Rica with 3 friends. Our trip started out in Arenal. We absolutely wanted to try whitewater rafting so we booked the excursion through our resort with Jacamar Naturalist Tours. The tour company picked us up on time at the front lobby. There we met our tour guides - Didier Alfaro and Carlos Araya Garro. Our driver was Wilberth. They were all very friendly, professional and spoke English very well.

Before getting into the raft, Didier and Carlos were both very informative on the equipment, technique and safety measures for whitewater rafting. They had extensive knowledge and experience on rafting, which was evident by their skills on the river. Carlos was our raft guide. He did an excellent job on keeping us safe, but also providing us with a great time - tipping over the boat on smaller rapids to get us all wet. Didier followed alongside the raft in a kayak taking professional, action photos of our group.

Halfway through the tour, we stopped to take a break for a snack and water. We ate fresh, delicious fruit – pineapple, mango, XX – which Didier cut and neatly displayed. Wilberth was there to provided us with cold, refreshing water. To get back to our raft, the guys dared us how to ride down the river on our backs (in our life jackets and with their guidance, of course!) We loved the challenge!

During the tour, the guys pointed out wildlife and animals surrounding the river. The guys dared us again to jump off a small cliff into the river. Without hesitation, we found ourselves on the cliff. As we each jumped off the cliff screaming, Carlos was more than happy to snap a few photos with our water camera.

When the tour ended, we went to a local farmer’s restaurant to have lunch. There, we made corn tortillas, which was served with our local traditional meal. The meal was very tasty. It consisted of rice, beans, chicken, salad and homemade fruit juice. They also had this amazing homemade hot sauce. While we ate, Didier showed us a slideshow of all the photos he took of us on the tour, including some photos of the wildlife and animals. The photos were awesome! They captured all the emotions you expereince when whitewater rafting! We were able to purchase the cd for an affordable price.

After lunch, we learned a little bit about sugarcane, participated in the process of extracting the juice from pressed sugarcane and even got to taste the juice.

During the course of our excursion, we must have asked the guys a million questions. They were extremely helpful and patient, answering every question we had. They also gave us great suggestions on places to eat and hang out spots in La Fortuna.

The price for this tour was more than reasonable, considering it included transportation, a 2-hour excursion on the river, a snack during the tour and lunch at a local farmers restaurant.

We had an amazing time and highly recommend this tour company!

“Trip of a lifetime!”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

Our first trip to the Tropics out of the cold North for our 40th anniversary! We were based at RIU Palace(NW tip of Nicoya penninsula)and went on 4 excursions with Jacamar with 'days off" at the resort in between each - Monte Verde,Palo Verde, Snorkle and Ocean Sunset Sailboat(Punta Vila) and a Beach Tour(seven different beaches). Our Rep, Isabella was amazing in setting the trips up. The drivers and guides were walking encyclopedic, lovely people.Their training is extensive and they love and are very proud of their country. Our favorite driver and guide were Franko and Alonzo abd we would request them if we ever get back there.. Julio,Paulo and Carlos were also great . It was like travelling with family and every minute was a treat. They keyed into what we were interested in.Made extra stops just to show us stuff. Next time I would do the overnight trip that incorporates both Monte Verde and Arenal. It all just ended too soon and was worth every penny. They treated us like royalty. We tipped generously. Costa Rica Pura Vida!!!

“Hike to Rio Celeste”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

This was the highlight of our weeklong stay in Costa Rica. Our guide, Alberto, picked us up at our hotel and was fun, knowledgeable, and excited from the start. Upon request, he gave us a few Spanish lessons and talked about local Costa Rican foods, customs, and leisure activities during the drive. He made a few very interesting stops along the way; one to see a mother and infant sloth that he spotted along the road side, another to see the "tree of peace" and spot some tree frogs. During the hike, he showed us a few survival tricks and pointed out some medicinal plants, as well as wild plants that people forage. When we got to Rio Celeste- WOW!!!! We were awed by the most fantastic color of water we'd ever seen. The waterfall was breathtaking, the hike was vigorous, and the rain made the day more peaceful than we could have imagined. We would certainly book again with this company, certainly ask for Alberto if you are headed on a tour with this company.
