The hotel is conveniently located on the way to the Mount Arenas National Park and right next to a supermarket. Kind of hard to spot the entrance from the main road but a GPS (I used iphone's google map) should easily guide you there. The hotel room has a great view of the vocano and the evening/morning view is simply stunning.

Service is excellent. The young man at the desk provided several good recommendations on what to see and where to eat.

Excellent value for what is being offered. Nice quiet room, wifi, and a soft bed.

My wife and I stayed in the larger room. It had a small kitchen with good sized fridge and a bar style sitting area. There were two beds and a large bathroom. The A/C and fans worked great. We did not swim in the pool, but it looked very inviting. The "waterfall" was a nice touch. There was a large covered common area that had tables, hammocks and a sink area. We spent many a hour reading and relaxing.
David was very helpful when it came to planning our daily activities. There is a grocery store and two small restaurants right across the street. The hotel was about 1 mile outside of town.

We had a fantastic experience staying overnight at Hotel Bijagua with our family. The place is very clean, beautiful pool, convenient location. The communal kitchen is a great idea. What makes the hotel especially great is the warmth and hospitality of David. We enjoyed talking with him, and he does everything to make you comfortable--trip advice, arranging rides, and cutting up fresh coconuts to give you a special drink. Highly recommended! Thanks for a great time--we will definitely come here again if we come to La Fortuna in the future.

We stayed at Bijagua for 2 nights in February and had a great experience. For the price, it was a very good value. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, and always easy to access for area advice, taxis, or just to chat. Our room was clean and the beds comfortable. Shower is hot and has great water pressure. We even had a little patio (lovely for enjoying a glass of wine in the evening) with a view of the pool and the volcano. The common-use kitchen is well-stocked (unusual, in my experience) and you can count on cooking your own meals if that's what you want to do. We found ourselves lounging for hours in the hammocks by the pool, enjoying the sun and watching colorful birds at the garden feeders. We were also surprised at the lack of road noise--the hotel is on a busy main street but it's hidden away behind a couple of shops and we slept very well as a result. The walk to Fortuna is about 20 minutes, but we found ourselves satisfied with the grocery store next door and the little restaurant across the street (the food there was excellent--there's no need to walk and pay downtown prices). We would definitely stay here again.

Very seldom do you find a place that is just perfect, but Hotel Bijagua was just that. The communal kitchen was great since there was a grocery next door, it was a short walk to town, plenty of tico soda nearby, wonderful pool with a waterfall and a morning wake up from the neighboring rooster. They helped us with lots of local information and tours. I wanted to give them a hug when we left, they treated us like family.
When in La Fortuna, if you are looking for low key and comfortable, Hotel Bijgua is the place.

Room Tip: I think they sensed we wanted a little quiet privacy so they gave us the upper room in the far back...

We stayed at Hotel Bijagua for 3 nights in late January 2014 and we couldn't have been more pleased with our stay. We just wish it had been longer! The price was very reasonable for a nice clean room, a beautiful pool, well maintained grounds, and a great location. There is a little kitchenette off the pool deck, where we could make coffee in the morning--a must for my boyfriend. We loved the ability to walk into town easily for meals. It's about a mile or so, which was flat and with a paved sidewalk most of the way. There are also 2 restaurants directly opposite the hotel and a grocery store next store. The only complaint (and it is minor) was the roosters and a barking dog who woke us up a few times. Hotel Bijagua provides ear plugs, but we found that putting a pillow over our heads was more effective. We had a rental car and drove to various locations in the area--La Fortuna waterfall, Arenal Observatory Lodge, and Nuevo Arenal--which were all easily accessible from Hotel Bijagua. Our hosts--David and George--were just delightful and helped us with directions, advice, and stories about the area. My boyfriend was particularly taken with the large pieces of petrified wood around the property and had a great conversation with George about where they had come from. On our last day, we were lucky enough to awaken to a clear sky and an unobstructed view (no clouds!) of Arenal. We quickly got our cameras and ran outside, where David was already taking pictures. Together we all got some great shots. In summary, we can't recommend Hotel Bijagua highly enough.

Right off the main road a couple of kms from town and beside a large supermarket, Hotel Bijagua is the perfect place to stay outside of the noise and bustle of La Fortuna. Large rooms, very clean, good value (70 USD tax incl) AC, tv, wifi, balcony, pool and the warmest and most helpful hosts make this an ideal spot if visiting the Mount Arenal area.

It's an easy walk to town or a 3 minute drive. David and family obviously take great pride in maintaining the property. The grounds are lush and well kept. Sitting outside, the birds, plants and sound of the small waterfall in the pool makes you feel like you're staying at a tropical oasis!

Many thanks to previous TA reviewers! We were only here for a couple of days but thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay.

BTW - right next door is a shop selling locally made jewelry and handcraft items. The owner, Roy, is in the process of adding coffee roasting to his business. He's getting prime Costa Rican coffee beans direct from the plantations and will roast them on site for sale. We wish him all the best!

Room Tip: Room # 5 - upstairs and across the little walkway. Very private and furthest from the road.
