Owner description: Small private Natural Reserve that takes care of a secundary forest in natural reneration. iT counts with a 600mts trail along the park. Around the facility you will find sloths (2 and 3 toes) a pretty big diversity of birds (Aprox.170spp)Butterfly garden, where you breed close to 20 different species. The frogs are very common, but mostly at night, in the day the msot active one is the blue jeans frog. It also has a small natural lake where Iguanas, Boat billed Herons and Caimans interact together. Besides wildlife, the Ecocentro Danaus supports the Maleku's Indigenous by providing a small facility where they can teach and exhibit their art ( Buying their art is optional )

“Really neat place”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

A great way to spend a couple of hours. We got a guide, Gabrielle (?), who was great. Very mild and patient. It's well worth getting the guide as they bring binoculars and a telescope which was so invaluable for seeing the sloths sleeping in the trees and the caimans eyes up close (so incredibly cool). We saw about 5 sloths, which was high on our list of things to see. We saw a large caiman and a couple of baby ones. Tons of beautiful butterflys, and some larvaea and a hatching of a butterfly. We saw some blue jean (red dart) frogs, a red eye frog, a bat, some agout i and lots and lots of birds. Overall a very pleasant experience - but a head's up we also encountered a lot of mosquitos!

“Lots of wildlife packed into a small place”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

We originally went here because it was much closer and cheaper than Proyecto Asis. For $16 you can visit with a guide, which I highly recommend. ($12 without a guide?) It's 3km east of La Fortuna on the main road route 142, then you will see a sign which tells you to turn left on a dirt road which you follow for just a km or so.

The place is small, but packed with wildlife. We saw several sloths, one of which was on the ground and we were able to get pictures just a few feet from it. Among the other animals we saw were caimans, a small poisonous frog, leafcutter ants, some giant rodent thing, and butterflies. The only thing they didn't have were monkeys, but you can find those all over Manuel Antonio or Arenal anyway.

“Great introduction to the Costa Rican ecology”
Reviewed December 8, 2012

We visited Ecocentro Danaus as one of our stops while touring around Arenal. It was time well spent. The guide was very informative and was quick to point out and tell us all about the flora during our walk through. Lots and lots of beautiful wild flowers, interesting tales of the medicinal uses of different plants, saw monkeys, sloths, tiny red and blue frogs, and butterflies of every colour. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a casual, interesting and entertaining visit to an ecological reserve park.
