“Amazing day and can't wait to come back”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

We spent the day filming here and what a wonderful experience. Eli and Milton were so welcoming and we had a fun filled day with them. The food is out of this world and I cannot wait to come back to learn more about their culture and way of life. A must do if you are in Costa Rica.

This is a real gem of a place. I haven't stayed in their rooms but I have eaten here and visited twice now and would definitely go back. I'm certain their rooms are as charming as the rest of their establishment. This is a small family run place that has exceptional food, friendliness and demonstrations of the typical Costa Rican culture. Food is cooked in traditional style and is absolutely delicious. The whole family entertains with beautiful voices and playing guitars with songs of the culture. You can purchase coffee, liquor and other homemade items. The owners Eli and Milton speak English and warmly welcome all their guests. And, they have a beautiful assortment of birds that visit their feeders. You will love this place!

We just got back from CR. It was a 10 day trip full of activities- ziplining, jungle/waterfall atv tour, hanging bridges, crocodile river cruise, beach, macaws and Cultour. Amazingly, my kids 13 and 15 y/o girls rate this one as their top CR experience, and said they wouldn't trade it for any other activity. My husband and I agree. I am so glad we did it though it definitely wasn't the priority when planning out our itinerary.

Ellieth and Milton do this tour wonderfully. We got a glimpse of the real costa rican life, visiting a home garden learning many kinds of plants, herbs, fruit trees common to the land, visiting the local elementary school that they support, watching the kids demonstrate a folk dance, learning to make tortilla, and coffee the traditional way, learning about the trapiche and sugar cane processing, lots of delcious food (the best we had in CR), entertainment and more. From when we got there to when they bid us goodbye, they were so hospitable, welcoming and genuinely passionate about sharing this experience with everyone.

We are grateful for the all too short time we got to spend with them and consider ourselves fortunate to have had this opportunity. Highly recommend this tour!

When planning our visit to La Fortuna we indicated our interest in culture, rural activities and natural surroundings so our planner suggested Casona Rio Fortuna "Cultour". What a wonderful experience this provided for us! The day began with a warm welcome from our hosts, Milton and Eli Molina, and an opportunity to prepare our own tortillas in a traditional home with a great view of Arenal and Rio Fortuna. As we enjoyed breakfast we were able to view a variety of colourful birds as well as a sloth and Iguana. Breakfast was followed by a sugar cane processing, a tour of a small neighbouring farm and a delightful visit to a school where children performed dances in traditional dress. The morning concluded with a delicious traditional lunch at Casona. This tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Costa Rica. The warm, genuine hospitality and the exposure to a rich and proud culture provided us with a wealth of memories that will endure. Had we known in advance that accommodations were available we would have stayed on site as it is very near to La Fortuna.

This is a farm house, more than a hotel. If you're looking for pampering in air conditioned comfort, look somewhere else. There is no glass in the windows, just screens. It's rough and basic. But...after dark you fall asleep to the sounds of the rainforest, in a house that was part of Costa Rica's history. It's different and authentic. When you're home, it's the part of the trip you'll always talk about! You'll be treated like family, fed EXTREMELY well, and when it's time to leave, you'll say to your self, "this is a VEYRY cool place!"

We did not stay at this property (sadly) but we enjoyed a wonderful visit as part of our Kuoni holiday. Milton and Eli who own the property are a lovely couple who made us feel very welcome in their home. The lunch was delicious and freshly made and from the dining area we could watch an amazing display of birds that flitted to and from their bird table tree to eat the strips of papaya that were hanging there. Milton was very informative about the history of the house and about the production of sugar cane. He demonstrated his sugar cane press and gave us a sample of the freshly squeezed juice. A tractor/trailer ride took us to another part of the property where we had a tour of the gardens and then viewed the pineapples and papayas growing in the fields. As part of our visit we were also treated to a most enjoyable display of traditional dancing by the local school children. The area surrounding the Casona is truly beautiful and we were very sorry to leave. This trip was one of the highlights of our holiday and I would thoroughly recommend it. The only negative thing I can think to say is that our visit was too short!

Casona Rio Fortuna was the place we enjoyed most during our trip in Costa Rica. The owners Milton and Elly are really super friendly. We felt really welcome and at home. They have the greatest cook, so enjoy a good meal with a great view on the Arenal Volcano. They also are the people who make the trip "Cultour". After this trip you will know so much more about the real way of living in this part of Costa Rica.
