Food was very expensive for the product and of average quality.. Aztec soup which was sweet and did contain tortillas for $7; Spaghetti Carbonera was good, but small order for $11.00, (c'mon spaghetti is cheap; $10 1/4 pound hamburger with some frozen french fries... No value here and I will not return...

At our 11pm visit to Lava Rocks Cafe, I don't know if the place was serving food since we only saw people drinking at that time, but it's a pretty decent, okay place to sit and have a few drinks.

The bar provided two things we were looking for at the time: a place to hang out and have a few drinks and any place after 11pm that had more than four people in it.....lol..

The good: cheap drinks

The bad: the bartenders are weak on their drink-making skills

Bottom line: In good company, you'll have a good time. La Fortuna's filled with awesome, friendly people. :) This place was weak on the drinks, but we stayed for hours because the place provided a good sit-down, chill place to make friends with the locals.

I so look forward to eating at this restaurant every year. Tried many great restaurants in Costa Rica & still keep coming back to Lava Rocks. The food is magnificent. Everything I have tried here I have totally loved. My kid thinks they have the best spagetti in the world. I really love the typical Tico "Casado" the best. The location is great and they are able to serve large groups efficiently. Great fresh juice drinks. Great fish. Love the open concept and accessibility to "JacamarTour" services for Arenal Volcano.

It's well priced, right on the main street in La Fortuna and the nachos are very good! My kids enjoyed the seafood platter, too.

A nice restaurant in town! We sat outside near the sidewalk. The menu had mainly "American" food but it had a Costa Rican tweak to it and was all very good. Service was excellent. A nice relaxing meal after a long day!
