“Love Animals? A Must Do!”
Reviewed June 30, 2014

I have been to Costa Rica 8 times now and was never able to fit this into my schedule. This time 4 of us went and (2 people in their 40s two other are 18 years old) are only regret was not having done it sooner. It was hands-down the best experience we've had at a an animal sanctuary (anywhere!). I cannot say enough positive things about Proyecto Asis. Carlos our guide was charismatic, knowledgable and funny with the right blend of all of those and a passion for these animal that was palpable. We learned so much about the wild animals of Costa Rica and stayed to help feed them. I highly recommend this! I can't feel bad about any of the money that was spent there as it all goes to a great cause - rehabilitating (whenever possible) and releasing back into the wild. The animals are so well cared for and Carlos makes you understand the depth of the knowledge they need to care for them. From baby monkeys, spider monkeys, wild boar, parrots, and toucans, to macaws caiman, and pizote.
Take bug spray and I'd recommend wearing socks and shoes, I did not but wish that I had. It can be buggy especially when it comes time to feed them. I will never forget our time there and cannot wait to go back for more next time we are near Arenal.
They have a little gift shop also ...do buy some things...it will really help them to continue their great work. THANK YOU CARLOS!!!!! And Ruben for fitting us in!!!!

“Wonderful, educational and fun!”
Reviewed June 27, 2014 via mobile

We made a reservation for the whole family (4 adults and 2 children- ages 5 and 2) and everyone really enjoyed it. We got to see and learn about leaf cutter ants, cacao trees, howler monkeys (there was even a baby!), parrots and a variety of other birds, monkeys and other animals. A lovely guide was there just for our group and involved the kids throughout the tour. Anything that keeps two young kids (and their parents) fully engaged for a couple hours is a win! We also learned more about Costa Rica which was a bonus.

“Best Part of the Whole Trip!”
Reviewed June 25, 2014

We spent three weeks in Costa Rica and did this our third day there. My kids (and they are teen girls 14 and 17), rated this as the best thing we did. The four of us had a private tour. We arranged transport through the project and were picked up promptly. Just as our tour was about to start it starting pouring (and I mean pouring) rain. The guide went and got a huge big umbrella for us to use. Thankfully the rain only lasted about a half-hour or so. The tour went on and we got to see various birds, monkeys (even a baby), peccaries, snakes, etc and he explained the history of the animals, why certain ones were there, and how they were trying to rehabilitate some and let them go free. The best part was the volunteer portion where we got to feed the animals. If you love animals, definitely do this. We got to feed various monkeys--even the baby--toucans, and various birds. Lots of fun! Even at the end of our trip when we had done so much in Costa Rica, my kids still say this was the best part of the trip!

Hi annmarie1004,

We appreciate your willingness to meet at Proyecto Asis to help us with the rescued animals we take care of. Your visit contributed immensely to the rescue center. We are so glad to read about your experience and how your kids consider the experience their highlight.

We hope to meet again, maybe for a different program of the ones we have available.

Take care!

“A must do for animal lovers.”
Reviewed June 24, 2014

Super cool place. The staff is very dedicated to the animals! And they have a wonderful volunteer program if you are interested. Advice: If you don't like bugs, and you don't like being around sometimes smelly animals then don't do it - but if you want to get up close to the animals you see from a distance in the rainforest, this is a wonderful way to do it. Plus you know you are supporting a great cause. The stories about how the animals got there are both sad and funny. Spend a morning here, you won't regret it.
