We took a white water rafting trip down the Balsa River near Fortuna, Costa Rica. We had an amazing experience and would recommend using this tour company. They picked us up at our hotel in a comfortable air conditioned bus and took us to the river. They gave us the safety speech and instructions during the drive. The guides were a lot of fun and very professional and helpful. We had a great time! After the rafting they took us to a local farm where we had lunch and a demonstration on making coffee and processing of sugar cane... including free samples. Our guide, Carlos was wonderful.... Definitely recommend using them!

Our family of 9 travelled to Costa Rica and did the white water rafting and waterfall repeling package we purchased from Anywhere costa rica web site. It was a Blast. The rafting was a lot of work- more than I realized (and took for granted)..The guides were super nice and team work was the name of the game!. Overall a great way to cool off and the kids had a good time spashing and getting each other wet.

My husband and I (from Las Vegas, NV) booked this tour with Wave Expeditions through Anywhere Costa Rica. One of the best times together ever! It was on the Balsa River (class II/III) and Carlos was our guide (Head Honcho in charge). I was sooooo nervous about falling out and if it would rain during the time we were rafting (fear of slipping out of the raft if it rained in addition to never doing this before). We went on July 21, 2013 and it was humid and overcast. I had butterflies in my stomach but Carlos did a good job explaining the commands and safety tips before getting to the river, then a refresher and practice once we got there. There were 5 people + 1 guide to a raft. On this day (Sunday) there were approximately 3 companies on the river and about 20 rafts spread throughout. It added to the fun watching others work together, fall out, swim, laugh, everything!!! Well, it was simply... AMAZING! Started off slow and calm, then the rapids started and boy what a rush. The scenery was beautiful with lush green forest and wildlife. Oh, and it started to rain!!! It actually added to the adventure and it gave it a surreal feeling as it was drizzling off and on with thunder! I never slipped out and by the end of the trip I said I was ready for a class IV :-p My husband said "we'll see... lets do more class III's before we upgrade" :)

After we were done with rafting, we had fresh watermelon and pineapple cut up for us to enjoy and replenish along with a cold beer they provided to everyone! After 30 min we were on our way to an organic farm where they fed us buffet style with Costa Rican food. After the late lunch, we got a demonstration and taste of sugar cane and how the juice was made. Loved the experience and food.

The energy, humor with care and safety oversight by the team from Wave Expeditions, is an experience you won't forget and will give you great memories you'll have for a lifetime.
DON'T MISS OUT!!!

My wife and I rafted the Balsa River ii and iii rapids last week. We have rafted several times in US before and it can't compare to overall experience here in CR. Carlos, our guide, picked us up at our hotel and entertained the bus full of people for the 45 minute trip to the river. We stopped at a fresh fruit stand on the way and were treated to taste most anything we wanted. Carlos and his crew loaded up with pineapple and watermelon for later. Upon arrival, Carlos found a poison dart frog to show to everyone. He was careful to handle it on a large leaf and explained much about it. Eder was our raft guide. The rapids started quickly and a young boy in our boat got scared. Eder reacted swiftly to reassure and calm the boy in an expert and compassionate manner. By midway, the boy was loving it.

At the mid point, we stopped and were served fresh pineapple and watermelon in a beautiful presentation. Some time after we restarted, the safety kayak took a 13 yr. old girl from our boat for the ride of a lifetime.

At the end of the rafting, we got back on the bus and were treated with water or beers on the 30 minute ride to the organic farm where we ate a traditional meal prepared over a wood stove. The food was incredibly fresh and awesome. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Carlos entertained again on the ride with conversation and information. After the meal, we were treated to a demonstration by the organic farmer, including a taste of sugar cane moonshine.

We did several guided tours on our trip and this was the best experience of all. Thank you Carlos, Eder, and the rest of the crew for a wonderful and unforgettable experience.
