We had a great experience at this hostel. We had booked a private double with en suite and AC. It was clean, had a safe and our only complaint was that the hot water was a little hit and miss. Contrary to other reviews, we found the staff helpful. Breakfast is simple (eggs, fruit and toast) but free and plentiful. WiFi was fast (as everywhere in Costa Rica it seems).

It is located just off the main street of La Fortuna, and is safe to access even in the dark. As a result it is very close to restaurants and tour places etc.

Aside from the hotel, I would like to add that in general the Arenal area is not that well suited to backpackers. The only things to do are tours, and everything is a costly taxi ride away (no public transport) we felt that there was nothing that unique that couldn't be seen elsewhere in Costa Rica. If you are going to stay in a resort and are happy to pay for tours each day then fine, but if you are considering La Choza Inn, then I guess you are probably the sort of traveler for whom Arenal isn't particularly well suited. That said, we had a great time!

When we came here we were a bit worried by the reviews of the place, so we feel it is our duty to set the record straight - The place is great!
The rooms are a bit old and small, but they are clean. Our towels were changed daily, and they even replaced our bed sheets once. The entire place was very clean, including the shared kitchen.
Also, the staff was very helpful and friendly, not at all what some reviews described. They helped us get taxis to the hot springs, and helped us with any question and problem we had.
Overall, we had a great experience in this place.

I intended to stay for two nights with a friend I met on my travels, we arrived and immediately felt unwelcome. We were literally the only two staying there, so maybe that's why. We asked the man at the front desk about tours and he said "I don't know". We asked about bus times, and again he didn't know, but at least this time he told us to go into town to the bus station to find out. He mentioned something about watching a movie or tv in our rooms, but there was no tv(not a big deal since we weren't planning to watch it, but still, why say that). He also said the internet was down because of the rain. We went into town to find out about tours and things and ran into a couple staying in town. They're internet worked perfectly fine despite the rain, the hostel manager was really fun and friendly, and we got way more information from these tourists than at our hostel. Definitely do NOT recommend.

Dunno what to make od this place. Rooms are fine, tours provided by the hotel are good value too. However, the staff are very poor, Lying and things are being stolen. We were told that this hotel provides laundry for 1usd per kilo. When my girlfriend wanted go to our room they told her she has to pay double or keys wont be handed to her. Today when we put wine into the hotel fridge in kitchen it was stolen within minutes. Staff dont seem to care whatsoever. If you only need to stay here 1 night or so, its fine but for longer stays please go somewhere Else!
