Stayed in one of the charming cabins for three nights while exploring the la Fortuna area. Tatiana and family were very welcoming to our family ; Tatiana booked a tour of Cano Negro and also a combination tour of the LA Fortuna area for us, really enjoyed the tours! Would definitely recommend both! Started the day off with a typical breakfast at Tatiana's families home which was very tasty and enjoyable! Would definitely stay here again if we ever come back to the LA Fortuna area!

We had originally planned to stay 2 nights here and 2 nights closer to Lake Arenal. But we decided to spend all 4 nights at the Hotel Cerro Azul and we are so incredibly happy we did. The family is wonderful. Tatiana helped us plan a lot of things to do around La Fortuna and Volcan Arenal. Alvaro was super patient with us (La Fortuna was our first stop in Costa Rica and we hadn't had a chance to practice any Spanish yet) and his wife was very warm and friendly as well. The breakfast is definitely worth the extra $7 - very yummy and filling before a hike to the gorgeous waterfall!!!! It's about 30-45 minutes walk up the road towards Cerro Chato but worth it! The bungalow is a perfect retreat after a long day of hiking/ zip lining/ hot springs. The front porch (we were in cabin 5) faces the volcano and the back porch is a great place to relax in the hammock(!!) overlooking the beautiful landscape or sit and listen to the river and the jungle as you sip some wine or Imperial beer (which you can buy from Tatiana or Alvaro). This place is the best to stay in La Fortuna, and the price is a no brainer. Also, we liked that it was in a quieter part of the area but still only 15 minute walk to town. We loved it so much we wished we could have taken our bungalow with us to the other places we traveled to in Costa Rica.

Room Tip: Cabin 5 appears to be the newest

We came back from Costa Rica last Tuesday. When we arrived to La Fortuna I was a bit disappointed because it seemed to be so busy. Once we drove up to the cabins, I was in complete amazement. My family and I had never seen such a cute and beautiful place. Yes, they don't have all the amenities of a hotel, but it is more than I expected. You are staying in a family owned property so don't expect a 24 hour shuttle. Tatiana and her father are awesome. They are so helpful. Tatiana helped us look for activities for our girls and called around for prices and times of operation. The girl that does the housekeeping is also wonderful. She does a great job at cleaning.
My daughters ate something in the town of La Fortuna which caused them an upset stomach with vomiting. Tatiana's father offered to make them a tea and constantly asked how they were doing.
The surroundings are beautiful. This is the kind of place we were looking for. After staying two nights and going back to Alajuela, we wished we had stayed here one more night. Some people have commented that they should build more cabins. I think this would take away from the service they provide. Less is more.

This place is absolutely amazing. With only 4 cabins that make up the hotel, it's one of the best hotels we've stayed at in Costa Rica. It's a family owned business (Alvaro and Tatiana are a father and daughter who we met) and the service they provide is phenomenal. We mentioned we wanted to buy a bottle of wine before going to dinner in the nearby town and when we came back, he had it ready for us with the wine opener. They are honest and you get an excellent deal for the price ($72/night). The rooms are spacious, clean and have an incredible terrace in the back set up with a hammock which makes you never want to leave this mini version of paradise. Highly recommended! You definitely won't regret staying here and it will most certainly make your trip memorable.

My husband, sister, and cousin booked a cabin here after reading the other Trip Advisor reviews, and were all very pleased that it lived up to the expectations! The grounds are beautiful, and we had clear weather so could see all of Arenal from our front porch! There is a lot of wildlife around- mostly some lizards and lots of birds, and from our cabin, we could hear the river flowing just a short distance away. It was very serene, especially compared to some of the other hotels that are closer to the center of La Fortuna. I would say that all in all, this is one of the best values in a hotel that you will find.

The service was great as well- towel art on the bed with fresh flowers greeted us on arrival, and I was especially impressed that at check-in the owner remembered and was concerned about whether we had made return transportation reservations for the day of our departure (I had called him a couple of days before to ask about the best mode of transport since the public busses didn't run on Good Friday). It was one of the first things he asked us. The breakfast was a little slow but very tasty, and we felt very welcome right from the start.

One word of advice- the owner did tell us that many people walk to the La Fortuna waterfall, and that it was a 45 minute walk up the road. We walked it and it was hot and all uphill (it was about 10 am). We arrived exhausted and enjoyed the waterfall, but we wish we would have taken a taxi and worn our swimsuits with us!

We stayed here for 3 nights in early March and were very pleased with the price, location, and quality of this cabin/hotel. We were two adults and 2 kids and the cabin was plenty big enough for all of us without feeling crowded. The extra touches like 'towel art', good water pressure, and a private deck with hammock put this place over the top. We especially liked the fact it was small, with only 5 cabins so it kept a quiet and peaceful feel around the place even though there are many larger hotels a short walk away.
The beds weren't the most comfortable, but they were what we expected for the price.
We like to walk so the location of this place was great - about a solid 2 KM walk to downtown on a paved sidewalk most of the way. We walked back and forth most of the time, but it was only a 3000 colones ($6) taxi ride from town with a tip.
The best part of the hotel was its easy access to the river. We spent at least a few hours every day 'body surfing' down the rapids which were only a 3 minute walk from our cabin. The water was great and perfect for our small kids (although there were a bunch of leeches - but they don't really hurt anything despite being kind of icky - and they didn't stop us from playing in the river)
We ate breakfast once at the hotel, but then opted to walk into town for essentially the same food but a bit cheaper.
The staff here was great - especially the owner who really went out of his way to be helpful. I especially liked practicing my Spanish with the staff here - at most of the other places we stayed in CR they immediately used English which just didn't seem as cool.
The only bad experience we had was a walk to the waterfall a the end of the road the hotel was on. We had been warned about bringing valuables to the waterfall, so we packed a small camera and about $10 in case we found a place to buy a coke. There were lots of advertisements around town and a large sign on the road in front of the hotel about the waterfall. It was the hottest day of our trip when we walked the 4 KM or so (all uphill) with a 3 year old and 10 year old to the waterfall when we found that there was a $10 admission fee per person that wasn't printed on any of the literature and no one told us about. We bought a coke and headed back to the river behind the hotel and other than my 'planning ego' being hurt - had a great time anyway.
This business will be growing soon - they have room for a bunch more cabins and I hope that they maintain the small time feel when it does. We'll be back!

after reading posts from previous guests, I thought it would be a good stay, however, my high expectations were exceeded. Frankly, it was a great value in a wonderful location with superior service. We found the cabins to be roomy, comfortable with a surprising private feel, despite the closeness of each cabin. Unless you are a heavy sleeper, you will be awoken in the morning by all the birds - you wouldn't know it by the front, but there are actually lots of bird attracting flora just off of your back porch - very private feel
Be sure to take advantage of the breakfast served by the family each morning - great way to start the day, coffee is superior.
The location is ideal, outside of town and down the road from the waterfall and volcano hike.
I would highly recommend staying here
