“"PARADISE" at MANGO VALLEY”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

First, let me just say what great people Maite and her husband Jose are. The two of them are so welcoming, pleasant and genuine. Mango Valley is so relaxing and beautiful. The staff working at Mango Valley - Nuriya and Javier as well as the gardeners are very polite and pleasant as well. Mango Valley is definitely going to continue to thrive and prosper for many years to come with Maite and Jose at the helm. Maite and Jose are truly very dedicated hard workers and ensure that their guests at Mango Valley are most welcomed and enjoy their stay while at Mango Valley. The cabins were clean and equipped with all that was necessary and if anything was needed, it was promply supplied. I wish Maite and Jose all the sucess with Mango Valley and their new life in Costa Rica. I miss their friendly talks and smiles, I miss them both, and hope to go back some time in the near future to see them again, all the best Maite and Jose sincerely, Joanne Anderson

Room Tip: I recommend the Poas cabin on the end with a deck , facing Poas Volcano

Hi Joanne!
You know that we hope you come back to visit us.You still have plenty to see here! Do not know how many gave us encouragement to know that you liked our progress with the ranch, the best reward for work is the smile of the guests :)
Thanks for encouraging us in business, we are happy but sometimes it's hard being away from our family. Our guests are our family now, and we have the best family in the world! lol
A big hug for Debbie and for you, be happy girls!

Marete, the owner and hostess, waited for us till we arrived after dark. Our cabin was spotless the beds comfortable and the sheets and towels perfect. But it was the morning that held the big surprise. We woke to bird songs, grounds that were brightly flowered, a cool but spotlessly clean swimming pool and a few trails that lead to the coffee plantation surrounding everything. Hint: you can order a home cooked meal for $12 (US), served in your room or in the dining area. It was the best food I have had in Costa Rica. The meal included a salad, a main course and coffee or a soft drink. And for 7 bucks they will provide same day service for a huge bag of laundry. Go there.

Day by day, Jose and I feel like in paradise when the sun comes and we love you could enjoy it too. I regret that you could not stay more days with us...
We always take care that our guests feel at home so dinner could not be less! Thank you so much for your compliments, there's no greater joy for a chef to know that their food is appreciated!
A big hug!

Firstly, the setting of the hotel right in the center of a coffee plantation is perfect! As a result it is very private and quiet being well away from the road. Jose & Maite have done an excellent job presenting the cabins in a very clean and practical manner which included refrigerator and hot plates if needed. The gardens and pool set as they are below the cabin level are a treat, birds abound in the gardens and hills around the property. Breakfast made to order each morning was a treat.

If you decide to visit them please insure you download the written direction that take you from the nearby town of Grecia, it will save you time and GPS misdirection! My wife and I highly recommend a stay at this lovely spot with a great pair of owners who gave us that 'personal touch' which really topped off the whole experience! Ray & Trudy Norsworthy

Room Tip: There are two types of cabin the normal one (which we had) was perfect for our shorter stay, however...

We recently spent 2 nights at Hotel Mango Valley in Grecia, and will be going back whenever we are in the area. Maite made us feel very much at home. She was great to talk with and we learned not only a lot about the area, but also of her home country of Spain.

Our cottage was very well maintained and it had a great bathroom and shower, with plenty of pressure and hot water. There was wireless internet that worked well from the room, a nice refrigerator to keep our Imperial beer cold, a little cooking area with equipment, and even a TV with remote. The beds were comfortable and the area quiet and peaceful. The breakfast was enjoyable and Maite even made it available to take to our room one morning when we were in a rush to head out for the day.

The pool was nice and located in a quiet area away from the cottages. The grounds were quite scenic, with benches to sit on while taking in the beauty and tranquility. We would have liked to have had more time to just relax with Maite at Hotel Mango Valley, but our trip to Costa Rica was full of travels to many places and visits with family.

We look forward to returning and staying next time in the Morpho or Poas cottages, with their balconies and spectacular views.

Jay and Vanessa

Room Tip: Go for the very popular Morpho or Poas cottages if available, for their balconies with great views

We are a retired couple from Devon, Alberta, Canada. We recently spent 28 days at Hotel Mango Valley, for our annual winter escape. We arrived only a couple of weeks after Jose and Maite took over operation of the hotel. We found the whole experience to be most agreeable. Jose and Maite were the greatest of hosts, willing to go any length for our comfort and convenience. We feel like we have another family now. The hotel itsself is in a most charming location, and is clean and comfortable. The high altitiude of the locaion provides warm sunny days and cool evenings, great for comfort and relaxation. The views are stunning, and the humming birds were busy every day for our entertainment. Being about seven kilometers from town, (Grecia), we had occasion to use the bus service frequently. It is reliable and inexpensive, and we found no need to have a vehicle. The tours offered by the staff are excellent, covering all the attractions in the central valley area. Since there are no more than four people on a tour, it is very personal, and the staff are very knowlegable about the area and the various attractions. We had the opportunity to meet many of the local people, including hotel staff members Nuriya and Javier, and found them to be most gracious and welcoming. They must be among the happiest people in the world, as we did not see a single incident of conflict or anger in our time there. The town offers all kinds of shopping and good restaurants, and the Villa Cipreses, about half a kilometre up the mountain from the hotel, was an excellent place to dine, although only open Friday through Sunday each week. If you can leave your North American attitudes at home, and just relax and go with the flow, I give this hotel my top recommendation.

Room Tip: The Poas cabins facing the valley provide beautiful views from the patios, and the rocking chairs we...

What can we say! You have been the world's most wonderful guests! It is hard to believe but there are still days when we remember you at 8:00 for breakfast.
Mervin, we were with your ideas for the jacuzzi, you are the comtemporary Leonardo da Vinci!
Alice, I really miss our fun chats after lunch. You get that Jose and I call "supper" an early dinner lol
Finally Javier's wife has the blue hat, Carmen like it very much! Nuria could not use it because she always leads ponytail so Carmen use it daily.
You have left us cherished memories, a piece of you is left in our hearts.
A big hug from all of us.

The Mango Valley Hotel is a charming place to stay at. The owners, Maite and José, are from Spain but they'll be happy to help you organize your day. They do offer tours for a reasonable price, but they can also give you some great advice about where to eat, where to go and what to do. Or you could just chill out by the pool area, which is bigger than what it looks like in the pictures. At night (after 6 PM) you can enjoy the stars. And the only thing you can ear it's the birds singing. This place is really an oasis of peace: no loud sounds, just a few rooms and visitors from all around the world (Canada, Australia, Europe). The perfect place to relax. And it's easily reachable from the Juan Santamaria San Jose airport (they do offer a comp lemenary pick up for 5+ nights stay). Breakfast is really good and it does include loads of fruits (pineapple, mango, banana), eggs and toasts plus juice and coffee. It's really good and tasty, cooked on the moment. At the end of your stay you'll feel like you've become part of this family. Prices are really resonable and the place is perfect, either if you're looking for some adventurous or quiet time. I'd stay here again anytime.

Room Tip: The colibrì cottage is really clean. It's got a huge bathroom with a huge shower. There's a...

Thank you so much for visiting us! It has been a pleasure the long talks in the garden (while my cake burned lol), those laughs for your long hours of sleep and share knowledge from other countries. I wish you the best of luck with your new project back home and hope you can visit the antipodes as soon as possible!
You know that if you go back to Costa Rica we will be waiting with a big smile. A hug!

We spent only 1 night in this hotel, but we would have loved to stay longer. Nice bungalow with a kitchenette, big bathroom, stunning view, hummingbirds in the garden, nice pool, good breakfast. The owner couple was very friendly.
