Hotel Mi Tierra is a great little owner ran hotel in the heart of Alajuela. It is very secure and convient to walking downtown. Our group consisted of 9 high school age girls and 3 adults who enjoyed our stay for 2 nights.

Our flight into CR was delayed 1 1/2 hours and we were so delighted to find Roberto waiting for us at the airport without even receiving a call from us (stuck on the tarmac in Atlanta).

There is a variety of rooms both with private bathrooms and a few with shared. The rooms above the main building are newer and two have a nice view of the backyard. The girls really enjoyed the pool and internet access (great location for teenagers). A wonderful CR breakfast is served and is accompanied with some of the best coffee we tasted in Costa Rica.

We hired Roberto to drive us to La Fortuna and back 2 days later. He is a safe driver with a nice 15 seat van. For a little extra money we made several stops on the way back to La Fortuna to see some sights and shop in Sarchi. Roberto was a wonderful guide with sharing information along the way.

This hotel is not like most hotels in North America. It is cute and has personality. Why leave home if you would want more of the same.

While we usually stay in more high-end accommodations, we found Mi Tierra to be a great stopping point before and after our travels in Costa Rica. The location, near the town center, was convenient. The hotel is a comfortable, safe oasis in the city of Alajuela. Our teenagers happily spent the day there while the adults explored a nearby volcano. The hotel paid our cab fare both inbound and out. The rooms were simple and poorly lighted but clean and comfortable. The hot water was operational on our return trip and Roberto, the proprietor, was wonderfully helpful. Breakfast was good--better than many we sampled on our travels. We felt the hotel couldn't be beat for the price, sense of safety and convenience it offered.

We stayed here just one night on our way out of San Jose in a room with private bath. The attendant was friendly and nice. The room was comfortable and clean with a tv. The shower was very cold despite having one of those scary electric heaters attached. In email correspondence they promised taxi fare paid to the airport. They called the taxi at 5:30am and it arrived promptly, but didn't pay for it, as we had understood they would.

  • Liked — proximity to the airport

Hotel Mi Tierra is a budget hotel close to the airport for San Jose, Costa Rica. Though in an old part of Alajuela it is a very secured and safe place to stay. It is owned by a Costa Rican couple who also do kayaking tours. The owners are very helpful.

The place is clean and a good costa rican breakfast is included in the price.

The hotel is old and it shows, but is charming in a nostalgic way. I would recommend this place to travellers that do not need the frills and decor of north american hotels, and instead enjoy the warmth of a family-run place.
