We spent two nights at this location. For those travelers that are traveling from or to the San Jose airport, this is the hotel for you. The hotel is a mere 2-3 miles from the airport.

We liked the personal touch...the decor was the Orient and Tico rolled into one. There is beautiful back garden area not to be missed. New owners will be hosting some belly dance shows come high season. We regret we were too early in the season to see them.

If you think you are going to stay in the city of San Jose and still get to the airport on time the next morning...BEWARE! The traffic is a nightmare and if you are driving a rental car there is a very good chance you may never even find the airport on time! It is a very well kept secret logistically-wise. We have never seen a modern, capital city that was so casual about street signs. This is why we recommend you stay at Casa Antigua...the peace of mind for your airport run is great.

Very reasonably price which includes a breakfast of fruit, fresh coffee, cereal options, breads, juices, milk, tea made for a nice way to start your day. The oriental rugs in the lobby and hallway, the beautiful art painted on the patio floors and a charming pool area were a nice surprise. Hosts and recent new owners of this property, Debbie and Henri were very helpful and accommodating. The free wi-fi, secure parking and cable tv added a nice touch.

On another note, the rooms were very small and had poor lighting for reading in bed. There were some noisy airplanes that traveled overhead. The four flights that passed overhead are a small deal in comparison to the ease of getting to the airport on time. We never heard anything pass overhead after 11 pm. On a more picky and personal note, we do wish the little finch in the out-of-the- way cage would have a companion or two. It is confusing to see a sweet little finch bird in solitary when there are all these beautiful and free birds flying around nearby.

This little darling hotel is a good choice for a traveler needing to make a quick exit to the San Jose airport or needing a resting place upon arrival. The price of a room in Casa Anitgua was a good buy and we will return.

I came to Hotel Casa Antigua for the third time and each time I stay here there are always improvements. My room is always comfortable and clean and I am close to the airport, so this has been very convenient for me as a business person.
Now, this hotel has opened a stunning restaurant, in a beautiful garden setting, serving Persian cuisine and entertainment, being "bellie dancing". The theme of the restaurant is Persian and it's name is "Mil y una Noche" which translates to 1,001 Nights. And the food is to die for !!!
For all the other local hotels in this area, Hotel Casa Antigua offers me the best of everything at an affordable price and it has the Costa Rican charm with all the modern ammenities. I would definitely recommend this hotel to those who need the convenience of the airport, great eating, shopping and finding a rental car close by.

This was my first trip to costa rica. claudia, the owner, did much more than i expected.
she was helpful, knowledgeable, and always thoughtful and courteous.
i was a solo traveler, so i needed to feel safe in my environment.
the staff were always willing to take the extra step to make my stay comfortable.
i highly recommend casa antigua for the solo traveler.

What the heck were they thinking to have rooms on a MAIN busy street that are open-air to the street? This is the noisest hotel I have stayed in - even worse than Khao San Road in Bangkok - earplugs didn't even help. I had the room across from the front desk, and every time someone opened the door, you could hear/feel the CLANK of the locking metal door. The place is also right near a bus stop and you hear every bus speed up and slow down for the stop ... plus other cars and motor bikes. Also, the front desk guy was more interested in checking out the internet behind the front desk than helping anyone. Oh boy - the only thing that can save this place is sound-proofing.

we found this hotel on this website and read the reviews......what were these people thinking?????? the hotel is on a busy street, under the flight path and the bed was a fold up makeshift queen.....when the driver dropped us off, i was afraid to get out....and that was in the daylight....the pool was empty...OF WATER,,,,the receptionist did not speak english....
the hotel says it has internet but the computer is an antigue....the breakfast was a farce....the toaster was broken, the coffee was almost gone, the cereal was frosted flakes and muffins were cheap store bought.....
our son stayed at another hotel for the same price and had a great view and full on buffet breakfast and free transportation to the airport......
i would not recommend this hotel and unless they reduce there price to $10 per night
