“nice B&B but some noise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2013

This is a clean B&B with great staff and a grzat owner. Brealfast is super. There are two shared bathrooms (clean) and the place is safe. They really make an effort in receiving guest at each possible hour and if you leave very early you can get a small brealfast, convenient with the airport closeby.
The post negative point is that one of their downstairs rooms has a really really noisy fan, we felt it impossible to sleep with the noise (so did not use the fan). On an other stay we were even having troubles with the noise when sleeping in the upstairs room above it!
Rooms are also rather small, but as you will proably stay here only for a short time this is not a problem.

Room Tip: do not take a room at the left-back of the house for the fan noise

You are correct, the ceiling fan was noisy and we fixed it, we appreciate both good and not so good reviews, help keep us on our toes. Fans are not used much here, as the temperatures are on the cool side at nights, and most visitors are not here during the day when it's wamer. However, we do provide ceiling fans in all the rooms, as well as remote controlled pedestal fans which are whisper quiet, and you should have used it since your ceiling fan was a bit noisy (not any more). Regarding room sizes, this is a house turned BnB, so rooms are, well, house sized, 4 of them are @10 x 10 or so, and they are generally used for single travellers, and 3 of the rooms are much larger and are generally saved for couples or families, as they sleep 4-5 people. Again, thanks for the review, it was constructive and appreciated.

I cannot believe I never wrote a review for Vida Tropical! VT (Vida Tropical) is truly our home away from home! We live in Costa Rica but we travel quite a bit and when we come and go, we ALWAYS stay at VT. It is a super convenient stay for several reasons. 1. They always arrange for our parking. 2. They let us store things there while we do shopping or bring in a lot of luggage. 3. The staff has helped us so much in the past for so many countless situations that I could not ever begin to thank them enough. We've arranged drivers for our guests (we live in the Southern Zone of Costa Rica) and we've used transportation from their very reliable sources as well. They can plan your vacation for you and arrange transportation any transportation for you as well. Isabel (one of the managers) once arranged for a Kayak to be sent from another hotel in San Jose to arrive to Vida Tropical so that it would be there when I arrived to pick it up. She is fantastic! 4. Everything is clean and comfortable. 5. Breakfast is good. 6. The staff is friendly, approachable, knowledgeable, accommodating and very professional. 7. Everyone is always in a good mood! They love what they are doing there and appreciate your patronage! 8. The hotel is about 8 minutes away from the airport and it is NOT IN THE FLIGHT PATH! So you do not hear any airplanes overhead. I dare to say that is the case in other hotels. 9. The price is right, it is convenient to and from the airport and you cannot go wrong with the staff. If there is ever something you need or if something is not to your liking you only have to tell the staff members and they will quickly remedy the situation, cheerfully and to the best of their ability. Isabel goes the extra mile. Jose has years of experience in Hotel Hospitality. Jose lived in the USA for about 40 years. Both Jose and Isabel are perfectly bilingual (English/Spanish). I cannot stress enough that Vida Tropical is the place to stay if you are on your way in or out of the country, if you need to stay in the San Jose are for medical/dental appointments or to do shopping Vida Tropical is a great stop over and stay as well.

Room Tip: If you want privacy and your own private bathroom ask for the Garden Room. If the Garden Room is res...

I love this place! So helpful and friendly.Great breakfast. Close to the airport. I keep coming back to what seems like home away from home. There is a computer to use or you can use wireless on your own. One of the manager's runs a restaurant called Jalepeno's, a Tex-Mex style place. It is walking distance from the B&B and oh, so good.

Only stayed here one night, although I would gladly have stayed longer. Isabel was very friendly and helpful (bent over backwards to help me get my phone to charge, even loaning me her own adapter!). There is free wi-fi and even a computer to use if you don't have a smartphone. The house is located a mile or so away from the center of town, which is nice because the street is pretty quiet. The rooms are spotless. The breakfast is plentiful and delicious (fruit plate, eggs to order, gallo pinto - rice and beans with seasoning - and toast, coffee & juice). The best part is that Isabel will loan you a local cellphone, and all calls within the country are just pennies per minute!

Me and my boyfriend spent only 2 nights at Vida Tropical and we can both agree that it was the best place we stayed at in Costa Rica. We were in Drake Bay and our host from there called and got us a room a day before we arrived back to San Jose. Isabel is very nice and has a beautiful house! It's clean, new, accessible and in a very nice location. She is very helpful and really knows the area and anything that goes on around. Feel free to ask her about busing, attractions, etc. Her place is great because you can use the kitchen to make your own food, there is a supermarket nearby, a mini downtown is also vey close (centre of Alajuela is much more interesting than the centre of San Jose). Her house is really close to the international airport too. We loved all the decorations Isabel had in the house such as flags of different countries, different currencies pinned to a wall and many little souvenirs from other guests. I wish I had to give her something to post on her walls in reminder of our short stay. She also has a bunny which is super cute and friendly and a restaurant nearby which has very tasty food! Isabel, muchas gracias para todo y quizás la próxima vez podemos darle unos recuerdos de nuestros países :)

We have been coming to Vida Tropical for over 8 years and still love it! it is a great place to start and end a trip. The rooms are comfortable and and the showers have good hot water. They are wonderful people and helpful beyond a regular B and B. The breakfast is great and the attention filled with care. When they are booked they are helpful in finding another place to stay. I highly recommend it!

Room Tip: The rooms in the front are on the road and can be a bit noisier - but it is a quiet street and I hav...

Vida is a small house in a nice neighborhood within walking distance to downtown. There are four or five rooms, places to hang out, and they serve up an incredible breakfast. The owner, Jose, was a sweet man with a generous spirit (when he found out that my five-year-old wanted chocolate chip waffles he went out and bought some just for her). We could not have asked for better hospitality.
