We ate at C – Vichito & Mas based on the reviews on Trip Advisor and we were not disappointed. The food was fresh, creative and very good. I was with a group of like-minded travelers on a business trip and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. However, you do have to go with an open mind and very large wallet. The restaurant is located in a former house in a residential section of Alajuela. This makes it somewhat difficult to find and a bit off the beaten path. There are no menus; dinner “suggestions” flash on a large plasma monitor in the restaurant. Your server will inform you of the fresh meat, fish, vegetables and other ingredients that are available. From there, you direct them on how you want the food prepared, making your own suggestions for side dishes, accompaniments and how you want it prepared. Our only complaint is that due to a very tiny kitchen (open to the restaurant) our 12 meals came out one or two at a time and by the time the last dinner was served, the first person served was finished. But overall, we loved this unique approach to dining and the food was incredible. The owners have put their heart and soul into this restaurant and it really shows. I probably would not recommend it for large groups like ours, 12 of us, but for smaller groups of 2 or 4 people, it would make for a very memorable and unique dining experience.
