“A very pleasant place to walk”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

This is a well tended zoo with nice walkways and fairly contented looking creatures. We chose it as the activity for our first day after flying into Costa Rica. It was just the right amount of action after a long day of travel, not strenuous but a great place to stretch one's legs. Beautiful birds for excellent photo ops. Not nearly as satisfying as getting to see them in the wild. All days except Sunday there are frequent buses that can drop you off right in front of the place.

“The best way to see the variety of birds in Costa Rica”
Reviewed April 13, 2014

Zoo Ave is a sanctuary for the many birds of Costa Rica. Many of the birds and animals here are animals that had been hurt and brought the Zoo Ave to be nursed back to health.

They have a wide variety of birds and a number of animals that can be seen as you walk through park-like grounds full of the tropical flowers of the country.

“Cool place...”
Reviewed March 6, 2014

Its a nice place to get an idea about Costa Rican wildlife.
There is a cafeteria just next to it called Cafe David, it offers food for a good price. Entrance fee is a little bit high though.

“Not a zoo - a rehabilitation site”
Reviewed March 6, 2014

Plan on staying for several hours and wear comfortable walking shoes because it takes that long to see all the animals. They are all being rehabilitated to be returned to their homes but in the process are fascinating to see. Birds, reptiles, monkeys and all other kinds of wild animals - don't miss it!
