“Not a Boutique anything”
Reviewed January 5, 2010

I chose this location because of the price and the location close to the airport.
Pluses: clean, quiet, elevator, nice architecture. The restaurant next door stayed open a few minutes late (after 9 pm ) so we could get some dinner after we waited for help with the car.
Minuses: they would not accept credit cards, even though website says they do.
little/no parking. And our rental car got hit by a bus leaving the bus station 2 doors down. The driver left the scene.
no communal areas that I saw.
The bathroom had nothing in it- no floor mat, towels, anything. We were to tired to go down and ask if there were towels available.
you have to wake the guy to unlock the door and gate to let you out early in the morning. He came staggering out after we rang the bell a few times.

For $48 for a double room this hotel is overpriced; their website is extremely misleading. And what it offers is simply rooms, most of the extras listed are not necessarily available. You will have a much more authentic stay with one of the smaller family run pensiones or hostels in town.

Important to note is the newly constructed hotel does not appear to be completed although the website has apparently been up since July.

Some of the cons were:

• Only a few pieces of fruit are provided as part of the free breakfast – no coffee either (see photo!)
• They advertise free airport shuttles, but only provide them once a day to the airport
• The travel desk has not been installed and staffed yet
• There are no communal areas (pool, courtyard, kitchen, rooftop bar, whatever)
• There is no late checkout service
• They charge for left luggage after 2pm
• No towels (or towel rails), soap or bathmats are provided
• The rooms have no furniture other than the beds
• There are gaps in the windows which could be sealed to help with street noise

On the positive side:

• Clean, comfortable rooms with good air con
• Nice bathrooms
• Wifi which worked pretty well in the rooms
• Close to the airport and Pacific Highway
• Centrally located in town, shops, parks, market, sodas and bus connections are all nearby
• Friendly staff member
• A TV room with bean bags and cable

But the price doesn’t include much else, and might be a lot to pay for the comfort. The price should be reduced until the hotel is finished, but watch this space in the future.

This place has been designed as a hotel with some dorm rooms, it certainly does not have the vibe that you would expect from a boutique hostel, whatever that is supposed to be. It’s brand new, so at the moment you get nice clean rooms with comfortable beds. However it is not quite finished (apparently this will change once it makes some money).

Fernando, the guy that ran the entire place single handedly does a great job, and was very helpful. When the hot water stopped working he scurried about trying to fix it, until he found out the municipality were doing repairs in the road, and knocked on the door as soon as it was flowing again.

PS. Don’t waste your money on the flash looking coffee shop across the road!
