I stayed here the first and last nights of my Costa Rican vacation. The hotel is clean, the breakfast is great (you have your choice of Costa Rican breakfast or a more American style breakfast w/eggs) and the proximity to the airport is convenient. They have a parking lot across the street for your car if you have one. The hotel is clean as was the room. The decor is quite nice as well and overall the stay was a good one. Nothing fancy, but it definitely fit our needs.

We stayed for 3 nights in Alajuela, in Hotel 1915, and that was by far one of the best hotels we've been into during our trip 3 weeks trip! Rooms were perfect for our needs, two double beds, A-C if required, Big TV, private bathroom and shower. The hotel interio is perfect for relaxing and hanging a little. You have to see this!

The owner is very accomadating, as well as the whole staff, and especially Jerome, the guy working for Bio Tours. Awesome guy! (Hola Amigo!). Have something organized with him, whether it's Poas Volcano, La Paz or something else you may want to do around, ask Jerome!! You won't regret it.

And it's the perfect place to stay if you have to leave the country because it's so close tpo the airport (from 6 to 7$ in taxi!!).

Ben

Our group speaks Spanish and had three rooms here and it was the perfect place for us. Clean, local flavor, restful interior with small gardens and open sky. With the tile floors, sound carries at night when people come and go occasionally. Also, it is centrally located, so there is some street noise. These were not a problem for us. Check out Jerome's bio tours! He's the best, and bilingual to boot.

We chose Hotel 1915 because it had good reviews in Lonely Planet. We were not disappointed. It looks and feels good and Anna in reception went out of her way to help us sort out our plans for the next stage of our journey.

it is what it is.....a place to stay on your way to or from the airport. definitely the most charming place we stayed in costa rica.
the interior is awesome. the staff were friendly. free wifi was helpful. gated parking (across the street) was great cause i didn't feel like unloading my surfboard.

kinda noisy due to its location but its super close to the airport and the central park area if you want to wander.

we'll stay there next time.

I reserved 3 rooms here for ourselves and friends several months ago, based solely on the reviews here on TripAdvisor.  I reconfirmed by e-mail just a few days before (and got a confirmed response), and even went so far as to guarantee it on my Amex card.  But when we arrived, the woman at the desk, who spoke no English, made it known to us there was only one room available, and our other two rooms had  been given to other people.  Even though our 3-room reservation was clearly visible in her book.  She got someone on the phone who spoke English who said he would take us to a really nice place just a few blocks away, for the same rate.  Since we didn't want our group to be broken up we went with him and basically ended up at one of the scariest hotels I have ever seen in over 25 years of world travel.  "Carlos" claimed his hotel was priced just the same as the 1915 but there was no hot water at all, there was a group of sullen youths sitting in the car park who watched us unpack with more than just a passing interest in our luggage, and the rooms were small dark and musty and clearly hadn't been lived in for some time.  One of the rooms had no windows at all.  After Carlos left with assurances that we would have a wonderful time, we decided to flee his joyless forbidding and possibly unsafe dump and go to a real hotel for our last night in the country.

If you get "bumped" by the 1915, as I see several other TripAdvisor reviewers have been, DO NOT accept any offers of another place nearby.  There is NOTHING nice anywhere else in town.

The 1915 has s lot of good reviews and I don't doubt the people who wrote them had an enjoyable stay.  But since I was never able to actually stay there, I can only offer the following observations to people considering it in the future: Alajuela is charmless, noisy, and edgy after dark.  The hotel is on a narrow busy street that is choked with early evening traffic and honking horns.  There is no parking anywhere close to the hotel, and most of the staff speak no English.  If you don't mind roughing it a little and have been in-country for some time and are familiar with things here and speak a little Spanish, you may well have a great time at the 1915, assuming your reservation is honored.  If you'll be coming straight from the airport though, you may find this hotel and it's environs a little jarring and not quite what the guidebooks led you to think Costa Rica would be like.

a really charming hotel. i only wish the employees spoke a bit more english, but the manager i believe was really nice and let us leave our bags in our room past the check-out time so we could get some lunch before heading to the airport. it's a really lovely place.
