“Just a beautiful oasis near the airport ....for less.”
Reviewed March 30, 2014

Stayed 2 different nights at this hotel before flying out in the morning. Both stays were just great. A $6.00 cab fare to the airport after a night with a clean room, good bed, hot shower and breakfast to boot unless you're leaving very early.
Wonderful hospitality letting us use their telephone, allowing us to store our luggage after checkout. The breakfast was made to order including fresh fruit, eggs, bacon and rice/beans.

The decor is like walking into an old Spanish courtyard with live trees and plants and comfortable sitting areas. The manager speaks fairly good English but the rest of the staff does not. They are very willing to work with you to mutually understand one another and find out your needs.

Highly recommended.

I've stayed here two different times with a mission team. The first was in for one night in 2010. The second was for a week in 2011. Both were in July.

The hotel is wonderful. The rooms are very comfortable, bathrooms are clean and have hot showers. The indoor common areas are tucked in different areas of the hotel, so there's plenty of place to curl up with a book, or write a letter, or check email. The breakfasts were delicious - different fruit juice every morning.

Not having driven on either occasion, I cannot speak about the parking, etc. The area around the hotel is safe enough - although our team leader cautioned us not to walk alone, etc., I felt comfortable crossing the street for dinner, or walking a few blocks to the square, etc.

Can't say enough good things about the kind people who work here.

Room Tip: Off-site apartments weren't as nice.

Really enjoyed staying at 1915 Hotel. The old Spanish decor was lovely. Staff were incredibly helpful -- let us store our suitcases overnight, let me use their phone to make a call. We had a suite with a balcony overlooking the roofs down to the square and distant San Jose -- beautiful view. There was off street parking for our rental car. We had a lovely walk down to the church and square. The diner across the street was a fun place to eat basic, good food and watch the locals.

We had a lovely night's stay here, relaxing in the comfortable lounges filled with sofas, elegant side tables, and lush, green plantings inside the lounge. Our room was comfortable too, (though not spacious by American standards, ....the "queen" bed was what I would call a double). The elegant bed had the most comfortable mattress of the 3 hotels we stayed in while in Costa Rica, and the bathroom had plenty of hot water (once we figured out how to turn it on). Mini-fridge nice extra. We chose to pay for A/C, and did turn it on (in January), though a room with a good fan might have been OK too. The hotel was just charming inside. Wi-fi worked near lobby & public spaces, intermittently in room.

We will definitely stay here again if flying in or out of San Jose. We liked being within walking distance of the central park and its cathedral, and several restaurants (including a tex mex place which we liked as much as other Trip Advisor folks). And it's 10 minutes door to door to airport, reasonably-priced taxi trip.

The staff were very friendly, and despite my limited Spanish and the day-time staff's limited English, directed us to a great fish place 2 blocks away for a quick lunch, and also called us a taxi.

Only complaint is they did not tell us until 9:50 p.m. that if we were paying by VISA we had to pay before 10 pm because the morning staff would not be able to process it before our 6:45 am departure, and in our hurry to pay the bill, we didn't notice til later it was $5 more than quoted (before the extra 13% tax)...but it will still very good value.

We stayed here on our last night in Costa Rica and were delightfully surprised by the old world classic beauty of the hotel. Our room and bathroom was clean, and very comfortable. There was even a little fridge for our use.
We had to leave too early for a proper breakfast but still we were given fruit, fruit juice ( one of those delicious smoothies) and cups of coffee, so early it was still dark out.

Nice, clean hotel with a couple of lounge areas. Included is a lovely breakfast. Within walking distance to banks, stores, restaurants, pharmecies and a really nice park to people watch. Felt safe here. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are good.

This is a very comfortable and inexpensive hotel a block from the central cathedral. Breakfast is included, and it is very delicious. This hotel was the home of the owner, her parents, and her grandparents. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are in Alejuela. The doors are locked at all times, so it is very safe.

Room Tip: Ask for the upstairs room with an outside balcony--a REAL DEAL for the money!
