“Never Again!”
Reviewed December 28, 2007

Since we had booked on-line, the desk clerk would not allow us to either have a room on the ground floor or on the side away from the interstate. We got the impression that she would not have allowed such
requests no matter how the reservation was booked.

It is advertised as pet friendly but there is almost no grassy areas for walking pets.

The road noise was terrible!!! It sounded as if some of those trucks were in the room with you!

There was only one lamp that worked in the room and the toliet did not
flush without the handle being held down. The toliet bowl was badly stained. The bath tub had mildew and the shower curtain was mildewed, too.

The breakfast was sparse and all prepackaged.

It is close to the mall and plenty of restaurants...oh yes - did I mention that it was very close to the interstate!

For me to feel like I should take the time to warn travelers--trust me, it was bad. I frequent LQ and Hampton, slightly preferring Hampton but if LQ is much cheaper I go with it and have always been happy. My experience here almost became funny because it was so bad.

Upon check-in, my room rate was not correct, and front desk refused to correct it as "this was what was sent over" even though it was still the current rate with promo according to the website. My room was on the back side of the motel, which was noisy and honestly felt dangerous, as not many other guests were on that side. (Very noisy from 5am to 7am as trucks were unloading at restaurant and grocery store that this motel backs up to.) The room was rough, but it was late and I still thought it would be ok. Came back late next day and room had not been cleaned. Called front desk and they clearly could not have cared less. Said they would tell housekeeping supervisor about it, but no cleaning would happen. No offer of clean towels or more toiletries or coffee, but whatever--I managed since I was checking out next morning.

Breakfast was disappointing as no fruit, no bagels or pastries and two choices of cereal were in large open containers with scoops sitting on counter to get out. I was just a little grossed out at thought of how many hands had been stuck into the cereal and what all germs the scoops had picked up from being set on the counter. I also noticed, sitting in the lobby drinking my coffee, that the front desk staff was not friendly to those who stopped there.

The worst part was the second night, as I began to turn off the light, I saw a bug in my bed. Killed it and tried to move to second bed. There was a similar bug there. Imagine how much sleep I got that night! Spend a little more money and stay somewhere clean and where the staff cares.

Booked online a $49 rate and received a generic motel room. Expected more from a La Quinta but it was adequate.

Booked 1 night after Thanksgiving at $51 per night + tax. The front staff was very friendly and helpful and the lobby was okay. The room did have a few problems, and I felt it could be cleaner. The shower had evidence of prior mildew and I killed a bug in the room and saw one more dead bug on the rug. The comforter did not appear to have been laundered well.

The temperature was hard to get adjusted correctly. The continental breakfast was average but had a decent variety of choices.

We stayed at the LaQuinta Tuscaloosa on 2/18/05. The front desk service was friendly, and the room was freshly renovated. It lacked cleanliness but was comfortable. There is significant road noise since the hotel is only about 50 yards from the interstate. Next time I will try the Country Inn & Suites, Holiday Inn Express, or Hampton Inn which are away from the highway.
