I was in search of a special spot for this most memorable moment when family would be descending from near and far to attend my daughters. graduation from the University of AL I discovered the Yellowhammer Inn - which looked very nice so I went ahead and made our reservations many months proior - for it was a Unversity graduation and rooms woudl be scarce.

Site is BEAUTIFUL.... staff is great- very attentive and very happy to assist with our many needs and special requests.

We will definately be back ..!!!

And yes... ROLL TIDE!

The Yellowhammer Inn is truly a unique hotel....but not for everyone. With no pool or other family-oriented amenities, it may be a difficult place for a family with young children to enjoy. But it is surrounded by beautiful woodland and has a fantastic conference center nestled in the woods apart from the hotel, which would make it a great site for "get away from it all" conferences. We had a very large suite with older, but well-kept furniture and bedding. The bed wasn't so comfortable, and the walls are definitely too thin. But the surroundings and other interesting places on the premises, along with only one available TV channel (really), allow you to discover quiet places for yourself.

Room Tip: Corner suite is the best value - and with only one wall between you and the next occupant, a lot les...

We are glad our guests find our inn peaceful and enjoy it's setting. I would like to mention that the inn does a a full line up of cable TV channels available. It's likely that someone changed the TV channel instead of the channels via the digital cable converter. Our staff is always ready to assist when a guest has a question or concern, and we strive to resolve any of those as quickly as possible.

My husband and I needed a place to stay and as usual, I began researching on line and came across this place. The price was so good, we were not sure what to expect. Well we were very surprised. It was a fabulously interesting place. The woods behind were beautiful as we walked across a bridge and down a railed walkway to the bottom. Our bedroom was very large with a really comfortable king bed. The bath was also large and updated. The room where we had breakfast had so much character as did the lobby with all of the art displays. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We definitely plan to return.

We enjoyed out time at the Yellowhammer. For the price we paid, it was a good value. As mentioned in other reviews, they tack on a $3/night resort fee that I think should just be included in the price. There's no on site pool, which is typical for this class of hotel - instead there is one available next door at the yacht club for and additonal fee of $10/night/room.

The location is beautiful. You drive through an upscale golf course community to get there, and the facility is nestled in a wooded mountainous setting. The area is very quiet at night... not your typical interstate noise and "walk next door to the Cracker Barrel" setup.

This hotel is independently owned, so there are things that would normally take place in a corporate chain that don't here. For example, there's no booklet in the room telling you about nearby amenities, or important information like how to access the pool and facilities next door at the yacht club. Coffee supplies weren't refreshed in the rooms every night by housekeeping. Another quirk - no desk in the room.

That said, it is evident that the new ownership of this hotel is working hard to upgrade the facilities. The Elevator looked brand new, and the room's bathroom was freshly remodeled as well. I'm guessing the room's door locks are on the short list for replacement... they're still using metal keys here. Everything was very clean.

We had a minor maintenence issue that required us to change rooms in the middle of the night (smoke detector low battery chirp) that was annoying - but the staff was very responsive, and gave us the room for that night at no charge.

I think the web site makes the place look a little nicer than it is in person - but that's not unusual. Overall it's a great little place to stay!

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms have vaulted ceilings.

Great location with fantastic service staff that were always friendly. The rooms were great with shutters that completely blacked out the room. However the beds were too soft, we had a room with two beds and we tried both and in each we had difficultly staying out of the centre. We always found ourselves rolling into the centre. I had to have a leg hanging over the edge to stay in place. Apart from that the place is fantastic.

We certainly appreciate all feedback on our amenities at the inn. I would like to mention that the inn, does have all new "pillow top" mattress beds in all of our rooms. Many of our guests compliment the plush comfort of the beds, however the memory foam "plllow top" layer can be a little different sensation for some if they are used to a non foam mattress of a regular coil spring. The pillow top memory foam doesn't have the pressure points of coil springs and does have a "cushiony" feel.

Enjoyed our stay but the advertised pool costs an extra $10 per person to use which I found to be off putting but the pool is very large and overlooks the lake. The room was nice with very tall ceilings however the furniture seemed a bit outdated and something was missing from the wall because there were large nails sticking out of it. The bathroom was very nice but could have been a little cleaner. Otherwise, great location. Beautiful surroundings. Friendly staff. Good breakfast.

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. We did want to clarify the pool charges and pool ownership. We have a partnership with the private North River Yacht club, next door to the inn. The partnership consists of the club letting our guests use their pool for the same amount a private member has to pay to bring guests. The $10.00 the guests pay to Yellowhammer inn goes directly to pay the private club for those fees.

It is a beautiful, olympic size pool that many of the guests enjoy using, and economical when you look at the cost of a movie, popcorn and gas for the family. We are greatful that the North River Yacht club is gracious enough to partner with us on guest pool use and on guest golfing opportunities on their course as well.

I must agree with other reviews in finding the Inn. We followed our GPS and it gave us a tour of the residential area. Once we checked in, we asked and were given a map which was excellent. Be careful with deers at night. The Inn is quiet, the employees were pleasant. Our room rate avg to $57.00+ tax per night, we were there for 6 days.

A continental breakfast was offered with our stay, breakfast is located on the first floor in a library type setting, very nice and cozy. Breakfast included milk, cereals, juice, bagels, mini muffins, coffee, granola bars, oatmeal, yogurt, tea and fresh fruit. I wish they would have kept ice water in a pitcher. Employees were attentive asking you if you needed anything else.

Our room was very simple, quiet, located on the first floor. The bathroom not all the lightbulbs were working, the shower handle came off (we found a way to make do with it), not enough toilet paper- we had to use the tissue box as a back up, the room was dusty, and the worst part the reception was horrible. If you are planning on working from your room or expect cell phone calls, it's not going to happen. We had to use their lobby located on the secnd floor in order to work on our laptops. Their wake up calls were very friendly, except for the last day when we requested a wake up call and did not make it to the phone on time, the wake up call was left on the answering machine. Luckily I always have a backup alarm and left without knowing how to access the message on the phone. If we had voicemail,no mentioned of this was said to us
.
If you are concerned about your car getting wet by the sprinkler as my husband is with his luxury car, then becareful as it will get wet.
Would we go back to the Yellowhammer? Only if the price is reasonable, it was a place to sleep.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor by the side door..
