“A gem in the rough . . . for some.”
Reviewed December 30, 2013 via mobile

This out of the way place (for some) would be a gem in the rough (for some). A small seafood (fried mostly) restaurant located near Wheeler Dam (hwy 101) which is between Florence & Athens AL south of Hwy 72.
This was a well-known local restaurant for years & then closes for years but has recently re-opened with new owners.
The food: excellent fried shrimp, oysters, catfish, clam strips, onion rings, etc.
Save up on your cholesterol & calories and then go with friends on a Thurs, Fri, or Sat afternoon for late lunch/early dinner (they are not open on other days & are crowded for dinner). This is a small, rustic place, go casual, & enjoy some comfort sea food! (No alcohol served).

“A for effort, a B for food.”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

This restaurant has an excellent atmosphere, smoking hot southern belle waitresses, and typical prices for family seafood restaurants.

The tea was fresh, the cold slaw very clean tasting, the cocktail sauce and tarter sauce is definitely homemade, with the prior having a great horseradish bite to it.

Everything is cooked fresh and the food would receive a very good rating, if it wasn't for overlooking the most important staple bread that you can connect to southern seafood restaurants.

Hushpuppies... These things are like hard cornballs! Hush puppies are suppose to be moist, have some size to them, and have their own recognition and special taste.

But these things compare to hushpuppies up north...

Fix the hushpuppies and everything else will fall into place.

“New, better location than the service station!”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

Lash's Seafood has been a staple in the area of Elgin, Alabama for some time now, dishing up great, fresh, Gulf seafood and catfish at his service station location. The owner purchased the old Fisherman's Resort (on the south side of Wheeler Dam) that used to have a very good reputation (back in the 60's and 70's) for seafood. The new owners have built a dining room on the pier (think "fish camp", not "fine dining") with great views of the water. If you like great shrimp, oysters, catfish, and gumbo, you won't go wrong here!
